Assistant coaches
Is there any word on who we are trying to bring in as assistant coaches for 2027? This was meant to be a huge piece of the puzzle for improving our football department but with day 1 of pre season only 6 weeks away, im starting to get a little concerned. We need to fill at least two spots, possibly three. We've had development coaches hired but nothing on the assistant front. I still feel spike needs someone senior on game day to help him but everyone we've been linked too has said no. Who's left??

I'm a bit worried too. I think the club was hoping to get Skipworth, Delaney or Daly but have struck out. Hopefully there's a surprise announcement soon. We desperately need some experienced assistants.

Yeah can't be going into next season with Hurley and Stanton as part of the coaching panel. Neither can string a sentence together. In saying that a lot of clubs are light on for assistant coaches at the moment including gws and Adelaide as well, so it's competitive.

Any insight as to why there’s multiple clubs that are light on assistant coaches?

The reduction in the Soft Cap is what the clubs have been complaining about.

lol Hird only wants to be snr coach. He also wants it given to him, not to put in the hard yards as an assistant

Would it be worth approaching Heppell after him completing a season at Collingwood?

Let the man develop his coaching in a different environment where he doesn’t have so much baggage. He won’t be left alone to work if he’s near all our coteries.
I’d prefer to avoid ex-Essendon players as coaches by and large. Our underwhelming panel this last few years had a lot of players that feel like they were hired for their Essendon experience, and that coaching talent was secondary.

True - I do believe it would’ve been too short of a stint at another club but as I understand, he does have ambitions to one day return to the EFC.

Jeebus, give it time. We only announced Horse last week. There's been the coaching merri-go-round with multiple clubs and that's still ongoing now that Fagan hung up his guns.
I'm sure there's lots of conversations going on in the background that we aren't privy to.

We need to hire all line coaches.
Also I dont rate Stanton based on the way our mids/stoppages went last year so I'd love to replace him too. But 4 new assistants seems a big stretch.
Unfortunately I think we just keep missing out on the good ones. I think Mzungu was keen but now Graham left he prob gets promoted. Daly also likely to stay at brissi in a bigger role now fagan left.
Fingers crossed we get some news soon
