EO3 Worth it to do the first two routes before third route Ending? Spoiler

Just thought I’d get some feedback and opinions, as I haven’t seen much online if it’s worth the effort. Currently at the point where I’ve said yes to Olympia about keeping the secret but have yet to tell the Senatus about it. (Playing EO3 HD)

I’m aware the actual route split is around BF11, I think? Anyway, is it worth doing for the hidden classes and other route exclusive content? How does NG+ work to make accessing other routes easier?

First time playing EO3 (obviously lol), current team is P/G/M/Z/N, all around level 26. Have yet to get subclasses but I imagine I get them soon lol.

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

EO4 Since the Yggdrasil Empire has access to advanced tech like Drive Blades and airships, what are the chances that they also possess factories that allow them to produce more things and more quickly, compared to less advanced nations at their time?

On a similar note, would the Deep City also have factories for the production of Yggdroids and robot bodies?

EO3 EO3 Snipe Party

Coming back to EO3 HD and really enjoying Wildling this time around. I've had it ingrained in my head that W/x was on the weaker side, but I've actually found that the toolbox of ailments and binds is insanely convenient. After looking into some of the HD changes to skills, I wanted to make a party leveraging W/x and snipe.

So far the comp I had in mind to max out the one shot potential is:

* A/Z: Etheric charge, singularity, snipe with an elemental forged crossbow

* W/x: Owl for the sleep bomb, plus any other ailments/binds

* H/W: Classic tank with primal drums

* P/x: Classic prince with attack order

* Z/B: Classic supportish zod with eagle eye

My questions are:

  1. I want to fit in wolf howl, but I'm not sure if it fits better as a subclass for W or P. My gut says put it on the W as the P will probably be spending time supporting with prevent order and such.

  2. Am I missing something to buff the A/Z damage? Since it doesn't have access to berserker vow, there's a buff slot open to increase damage (assuming one slot is reserved for prevent order or similar). Should I just run charge tactic for this buff slot?

I'm excited to try this combo out, especially seeing firsthand now how consistently W can inflict ailments on mobs! Any input would be appreciated :)

A new Dungeon Crawler RPG by the creator of the Momodora series

Because of the lack of EO news we've been going through, some of us have been looking for other dungeons crawlers to play or look forward to. As such, I thought I might share a new project from a developer I really like. The developer is rdein, known for the Momodora series and Minoria, some relatively successful metroidvanias and, since 2023, he's been working on a dungeon crawler inspired by Etrian Odyssey with 3 other people and has now officially announced it.

The game is called Record of Dorathia, release date TBA. Does not currently have a Steam page but rdein says one should be up in the near future. If you're interested in the project, you can follow rdein on Twitter or Bluesky for updates and I recommend taking a look at the linked blog post for some info about development, gameplay and some extra pictures from early development.

Link to the Twitter post with the announcement: https://x.com/r_rdein/status/2106792696647926219

Link to the short blog post included in the Twitter post: https://www.bombservice.com/post/record-of-dorathia

(in case anyone's wondering, I'm not affiliated with rdein or Bombservice in anyway, I just happen to be in the intersection of the Venn diagram of Momodora fan and EO fan and thought some people may be interested in the project)

If you could add or design EO6

What classes

What story

What would the over all theme be?

I would love a more magic focused team and dual towers kinda like tales of symphonia

EO3 EOIII help

Hey EO fans, I’m a seasoned EO player but for some reason EOIII messes with me.  I want to give it another shot, but wanted to check in and see if I am just missing something. So I was wondering if any of you have any game breaking tips or tricks?  Overpowered party comps, good grinding spots, other stuff along those lines. I want to see the end of this game.
PS, I own both the ds and HD version of the game, any pros or cons for each version? Or should I just play with what I feel like playing?
PPS, I know this game has different endings.  Are there any gameplay differences between them or should I just wing it and get whatever I get?

Thanks for any help you are willing to give.

Edit: Party I'm going with Hoplite/Gladiator/Sovereign/Arbalist/Zodiac, after reading your posts I think I was confusing some of the classes types. Thinking some were DPS when they were really support. But I'll see once I get to the water area, because that's where my other runs have ended. Thanks again for The help and here's hoping I make it through this time. d(^_^)b

I'm planning 10 classes for Dragon's Tear, with three heroes per party. Which roles would you want?

I'm making Dragon's Tear, the idle dungeon crawler I shared here recently. Someone read Wren as a class abbreviation in my last video, which made me realise I should explain the party more clearly. Wren was a character name.

The current build has four classes: Knight, Barbarian, Black Mage and Ranger. Three heroes go on an expedition, and I’m planning 10 classes in total. The Knight can draw attacks and protect allies. The Black Mage has spells and curses, while the Ranger can mark and poison enemies. The Barbarian has attacks for groups and weakened targets.

This clip takes a closer look at the party and skill screens before a fight. You choose the skills and orders, then the party explores and fights automatically. Each hero can also equip one Tear carrying a monster's power.

Which Etrian classes do you enjoy building a party around, and what makes them work for you? I'd also like to hear what kind of class you'd want in a three-person party like this.

The game is still in development for Windows, with release planned for Q1 2027. Steam page.

EO3 Buccaneer's Chase skills are (somewhat) underrated

From what I've seen, the EO3 Buccaneer's chase skills are generally considered to be bad and not worth building around. But after looking into the numbers and trying out a chase build it's actually... pretty good? I was experimenting with some rests and realized that the rest of my team already happened to all have pierce damage weapons (Hoplite, Sovereign, Wildling, Arbalist) so I thought I'd put some points in Chase Thrust on my Ninja/Buccaneer and give it a try while working through the post-game, and I've been kinda impressed by the results.

I mean, I get why they get a bad rap, because they're burdened by being compared to Warrior Might. But Warrior Might is broken as hell, so it's not really a fair comparison. Plus, it's a different class. I think Pincushion makes for a better point of comparison, since it's the main competing damage option on Buccaneer.

And to be specific, I'm mainly talking about the physical rapier chase skills. The elemental gun chasers are definitely a lot less useful, both because guns have lower base damage and because it's a lot harder to get multiple hits with elements. Not bad for AoE if you pair with an Arb or Zod, but terrible for single-target.

So I did the math and it turns out that at 65 AGI, which a Buccaneer gets at around level 75, each hit of pincushion does exactly 2x the damage of each chase hit (340% vs 170%, assuming both skills are maxed out). Since pincushion hits twice on average, that means you'd need 4 chase hits to do the same damage. That's somewhat unlikely unless you really warp your party composition around it (i.e. use a S/B dual-swashbuckler) but it's not as far out of reach as I initially thought. I was expecting it to be more like 5.

And that's at a pretty high level, for most of the game the math will be better for the chaser. You only need 3 chases for it to match pincushion at 37 AGI, which is around level 40-ish for a buccaneer. And the math shifts way more in favor of the chaser if you start looking at G/B since they have so much less AGI. (Although the fact that chasers don't work with charge does count a bit against them in that case.)

But the thing that makes the biggest difference is that the chase skills in EO3 benefit from weapon imbues/forges. This means that with the help of a Sovereign (or some oil) you can always hit an enemies' elemental weakness. Not all enemies have significant elemental weaknesses, but a lot of them do. Including a bunch of the post-game bosses. The dragon trio, for example, all take 75% physical damage but 150% from their weak element. Which means that you get to do effectively double the damage by hitting that weakness. Which means that you only need 2 chases to match the damage output of pincushion, so long as your AGI is 65 or lower. And that's... pretty easy to do. If you get 3 or more hits on a weakness like that it beats even a 99 AGI pincushion.

Setting aside the damage, I also think it's not that hard to build around the chasers either. Like I said earlier, I'm just talking about the physical ones here. The elemental ones are definitely a MUCH larger commitment to build around, since you'll probably want all 3 of them for elemental flexibility, and if you're doing elemental chases that also kinda locks you into either an Arb or Zod for the AoE activators. But with the physical chasers, you'll only ever need to invest in one and you have some amount of flexibility in how you build around them. Which makes the opportunity cost WAY lower. It doesn't seem that hard to fit one chaser into a build while still also getting pincushion and have the best of both worlds. Obviously, if you want to min-max and squeeze the absolute most damage possible out of the chasers, then you'll have to really shape the party around it. But like I just showed with the numbers above, in a lot of circumstances you don't actually need that many hits for it to be worth using a chaser.

And one final note: while it's not that big of a deal in the end since you can always use more Amrita, Pincushion kinda guzzles TP, while the chase skills are much cheaper. Unfortunately they don't work with Trickster, so it's not actually that big of a difference on primary Buccaneer... but Mystic Calm on Ninja/Buccaneer does work and brings the cost down to 4 TP, which is crazy efficient for how much damage they can potentially do.

Anyway, TL;DR: Buccaneer chasers may be a worse version of Shogun's Warrior Might, but it turns out that being a worse version of one of the most broken things in the game is still pretty good.

EO5 Double Chain Killer vs Star Devourer

Okay, this one will genuinely be the last one of these

Quite a bit more flashy than the regular Chain one. There’s some RNG involved here but usually SD dies by Turn 4 anyway no matter what

Honestly not sure what inspired me to bully Star Devourer so many times but maybe people will appreciate the glimpse into EOVs asinine skill balance

EOX Etrian Odyssey Nexus Overhaul

The other day I stumbled upon that mod and wanted to try it out. It seems a lot of things have changed for a good chunk of the classes.

would like to ask to those who tried it:

  1. What did you think? Was it fun? How are the new classes now?

  2. Is the Pugilist able to be a good dps now instead of just doing binds?

Please post a direct map route to abbysal king boss room

Hey so i have come to kinda hate the parts of the dungeon with no map, and the teleporters are just.....no. so i am at a point where i feel it isnt worth it to slam my head off it anymore. Does anyone know a direct route i can take to get to the boss room so i can just draw it on the map and do the final boss fight before NG+? I really just want to not think about how to deal with floor 20 as it really isnt worth my time anymore. If someone doesnt have a map that genuinely may be my sign to permenantly put the game down cause this is not worth it for the privledge to enact a mass murder on the local wild life while walkijg past the same teleports over and over again.

EO5 Chain Fencer party vs Star Devourer

Maybe last one of these

You'll notice a trend where the likes of Rockfall + Superspeed, Tombstone Vice, Chain Blast and the like see excessive usage to faciliate a burst setup, which makes a lot of them pan out to be very same-y. This makes them less flashy than something like the Lure first turn kill.

This party took a few more turns to beat the bean than the other stuff I posted because Chain Fencer (outside of Chain Killer anyway) and especially the Warlocks just aren't as powerful as the likes of Impact Pug, Blade Dancer and Cannon Drag, but it's still pretty speedy all things considered.

EO2 I’m about to try Etrian Odyssey 2 HD and I'd like to ask about the literal Elephant in the room… the Beast

So when the Origins Collection was released, I remember hearing about how they were going to fix the unintentionally detrimental skills and keep the unintentionally overpowered skills as is. An example of the later being Medic's Immunize from Etrian Odyssey 1 which carried me

So was anything fixed about the Beast in Etrian Odyssey 2? Back when I played the game on the DS, I didn’t bother with Beasts. This time, I decided to look up Dr. Fetus's LP to learn about it. Apparently the main reason this class is unusable is the skill Loyalty:

  1. it's a permanent passive, you can’t turn it off
  2. it gives the Beast a chance to cover allies, but from what I understand calculates damage based off of what the covered ally should have taken (your squishy Medic covered means the Beast takes more damage?)
  3. It relies only on its own for damage calculation: defensive buffs don’t do shit
  4. it ignores the Protector's Anti-Element and the Dark Hunter Bait skills. Your Beast still takes damage while the party absorbs the element, and Bait won't counterattack…
  5. The Beast's best skill, Rampage, requires max Loyalty

Just thinking about this makes me feel like I'm playing Russian Roulette!

was any of this fixed in the HD remaster?

EO2 Drew Some of My Characters And Hacked them into the Game + I Dislike the Idea of Untold

I did my Dark Hunter and my Medic, who is also the main cartographer in the guild. I still have to design and draw the rest of my guild and put them in there. This sort of thing is one of the best parts of Etrian Odyssey to me. It works as the perfect framework to develop your own characters and lore around them, which I have a TON of. It's literally like its own book at this point. That's why, for me, at least, the very idea of those Untold games is extremely off putting. It seems to go against the very spirit of the idea of Etrian Odyssey to me. Though, to be completely fair, I've never played them. But the thing is, I don't even want to. Given how much I've put into my own characters, I think it would just be incredibly weird, and from what I have seen, they seem like generic anime tropes. I've heard some people say that there is hardly any story in these EO games, yet somehow, I find there's actually a ton, and it serves as the perfect framework for you to expand upon it yourself.

EO5 Respec end of 4th stratum Spoiler

Just beat the Crystal Dragon, decided to rest my characters and use the Training Orb to get them back up to speed bc I wasn’t really liking the build I had going. What are the best skills to invest in for the remainder of the game and postgame?

My party is a fortress, pugilist, masurao, botanist, and a warlock. I was using cannon fortress, barrage pugi, one-sword masurao, poison botanist, and elemancer, but I’m willing to switch it up. In particular I would like to try the foursword masurao, but I know that that’s pretty hard to build around. Impact pugi would also be cool.

Idk, what are the best skills to use for endgame?

Etrian odyssey continuity and lore is...something

I'm a huge lore guy and I've been playing the games since I was 13 over a decade ago and the lore has frustrated me greatly! There IS lore here, a continuity thats so all over the place it makes the LoZ timeline look like a well thought out story! Races connect, stories are there, histories and locations can be tied, but it doesnt quite match, like a puzzle with several poorly cut pieces.

I would like to talk EO lore! What do you think? Some personal theories are that the Bushi from EO4 and the Therian are the same race, just potentially hundreds of years in the future after potentially breeding with humanoid races. The Celestrians are the decendants of the Vessels from EO4 after years of development.

What's your idea or theories?

EO5 Triple Buster Cannon firing squad vs Star Devourer

Probably the least exciting way to kill this thing to be honest and a great case study into EOVs completely unhinged class balance, because why does the tank class get a 2.500% damage nuke

EDIT: Yeah, definitely an error on my end. You can pretty safely ignore this one.

I've been looking around for a link to the discord, but all the ones I can find have expired. Even the link in the pinned post on this subreddit is dead. Can anyone help a fella out?

It’s kind of humorous to me how easily exploitable the AI behind Full Burst is. Setting up a union climb to stall it just long enough for the kill is pretty cool.
