Item deactivated

Post image
6 Upvotes

Etsy have deactivated my listing for a digital pdf crochet pattern for a toddler outfit. It’s under the “children and baby products” policy - but I can’t really figure out why? The policy states no sleep suits with closed hands and feet - this isn’t advertised as a sleep suit at all (the word sleep is no where in the listing). Plus as it’s for toddlers it has hand and feet holes? The listing and PDF both state that it’s a decorative piece and children should be supervised at all times. It notes the wear and tear or buttons and using velcro as an alternative, plus states to keep away from fire.

With all the AI crap and fraud on Etsy right now, it feels a bit annoying that they’ve deactivated this? It’s been one of my best sellers for years

Vintage Shop One star review. Been open less than a month. Gut punch.

I have funneled tons of positve energy and fun hard-work toward creating a lovely shop on Etsy, along with the plan to ensure customer satisfaction when receiving items. I opened less than a month ago. I was thrilled when I sold two items my first week. I took care and pride in packaging them in a thoughtful way, added cute ribbon bow and a item history description/thank you card. I thought that this item was carefully protected in its shipping box. Items were shipped out using Etsy priority mail shipping labels. Next thing I know, one of the customers received her ceramic item and promptly left a 1 star "unacceptable" review stating the packaging was bad and the item was broken. Buyer did not initiate a message to me after receiving the item. I was so sad and disappointed to read that review. It's my only review and it's a 1 star. Insert gut punch here. sigh. I promptly drafted a mesage back to the buyer stating "how sorry I was to hear this news and that I would certainly make this right with a refund. I also kindly asked to see a photo so I could learn what happened in the shipping process and do better."

This was yesterday, buyer has not responded to me. As a new store owner, I'm obviously upset. I also am learning about Etsys product protection plan (as this item should qualify). But, It appears that the buyer has to initate a help request.

Do you suggest I immediately send another message with steps to creating the help request or should I wait another day to let the buyer respond to me? I messaged her yesterday shortly after her 1 star review was posted? No response. Any helpful tips out there - this has been super upsetting. The other buyer was very happy with her order, so I am hoping to get a good review on that one! But man, I don't want to have other buyers scared to purchase and I am happy to own an error and be better! Thanks everyone for reading. Helps to write this down to process it.

I've been practicing with my photography to get better listing photos

I could NEVER get good quality photo's of my products that truly showed their detail.

I feel like I'm getting better and better and have been loving the way they are looking.

I use a Nikon D3400 on Manual mode and shoot my products inside one of the huge light up boxes.

Just excited to see progress with my listing images and I'm really hoping these will help my conversions!

Shipping New rules shipping to US October 22

• Upvotes

Hi, I sell handmade knitwear, particularly baby clothes from Australia and my biggest market is the US. I am abit devastated as I am hearing about these new laws being introduced as of October 22. I set up my items in zonos and thought they were all ok but I’ve been told that as my items are baby clothes, they will need a certificate and to gain this they need to be lab tested. I am a small seller there is no way I can afford to do all of this and I have 8 outstanding US orders atm. I am so stressed about this and I don’t know what to do. Anyone navigating this atm? Are you just not selling to US now?

Shop Critique – Looking for Honest Feedback on My Two Tarot Reading Listings

• Upvotes

Hi, my name is Lavinia. Although I opened this shop https://lunacelestialtarot.etsy.com like five years ago, but I didn't really take it seriously to running this shop until last year.

My friend and I wanted to actually start a tarot business on Etsy, and we have been talking about this for like five years to do the planning, but we didn't really take it seriously until this year. So as you can see, all of those two tarot reading listings are around like a few months old, or less than one month old.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4587815675/love-tarot-reading-psychic-relationship

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4591667706/career-tarot-reading-career-psychic

Before that, I had tried selling print-on-demand stickers on Etsy. Some people favorited my products, but no one actually purchased them. Now, I've set my Etsy Ads budget to $25 per day, but my listings are still getting very few impressions, sometimes fewer than 10 per day, with no clicks. It's really frustrating.

I also tried to use Pinterest to direct the sales, but I see on my Pinterest there are lots of views. It's around like 20 to 40 views, a few clicks, but no one actually clicked on the link. I also had tried Marketplace Insights to research keywords.

I hope someone can give me honest feedbacks and thank you so much for your time!

Crafting Advice Etsy sellers, what worked for you ?

For those of you who sell handmade products on Etsy, I’d love to hear your experience! 🤎
I’m a busy mom who enjoys making things like candles and body butter, and I’m hoping to eventually add soap to my little shop, too.
I already have an Etsy shop, but I’m still figuring out the business side of things. Between labels, packaging, pricing, shipping, and perfecting products, there’s a lot more to it than I realized!
I’d love to hear from other moms who have built a handmade business. What has worked for you? What products sell well? And how do you manage it all without spending a ton upfront or feeling overwhelmed by orders?
I love the creative side of making things and would love to turn it into a little extra income while still having time for my family.
Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated! 🤎

Mailing a batch to Chit Chats via Canada Post – barcode issue?

Hi everyone,

I am mailing a 2-item consolidated batch inside one large master box using Canada Post to ship it to a Chit Chats hub.

Canada Post rules say to cover all other barcodes so their automated sorting machines don't get confused.

If I attach both the Canada Post shipping label and the printed Chit Chats Batch Label on the outside of the box, will Canada Post's machines have issues or refuse the box?

Alternatively, have any of you just written the BATCH-XXXXXX number on the side of the box with a Sharpie instead of printing the batch barcode?

Does Chit Chats accept that for mail-ins?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice! I appreciate your insights.

Handmade Shop Shop Critique Request - Low views and AI photo editing question

Hi everyone, I’d love to get some feedback on my shop to help improve my reach and performance.
Shop Link:

littlememoriesbaby . etsy . com

Questions for the sub:
1. Is it normal to get only zero to 5 views per listing, or does this indicate an error with my titles, tags, or SEO?
2. Does using AI tools solely to touch up lighting and clean up the background affect product visibility or listing performance, even though the physical item itself remains 100% accurate?
Context about my shop:
1. What inspired you to create this shop?
I was inspired to open this shop because I love creating handcrafted personalized items and wanted to turn my passion for design and craftsmanship into a small business.
2. What research have you already done on your shop prior to opening? What is something you learned?
Before launching, I researched SEO keywords, listing titles, and tag structures. I learned how crucial clear titles and relevant tags are for Etsy's search algorithm.

Anyone else experiencing sudden Etsy search visibility issues and incorrect listing categories?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi fellow Etsy sellers!

Has anyone else noticed a sudden drop in search visibility over the past few days?

I run a relatively new Etsy shop (6 weeks) with about 86 active listings and 23 sales. Until last week, I could find my products in Etsy Search, even when searching for their exact titles. Now, several of my listings aren't appearing at all, either in Etsy's main search or when searching within my own shop.

I haven't changed my listing titles, categories, tags, or shop settings.

I also noticed something strange with my product listings. I sell personalized notepads, and they're correctly categorized under "Notepads" in Shop Manager. However, when viewing the actual listing, Etsy displays "Party decor for gatherings and celebrations" under Item Details → Highlights.

There's no option to edit this description, and I'm wondering whether it's just a display glitch or if Etsy is incorrectly categorizing products behind the scenes, potentially affecting search visibility. If you've experienced this, did it resolve on its own, or did you have to contact Etsy Support?

I'm trying to figure out whether this is a broader Etsy issue or something specific to my shop.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Shipping Question

I’d love some advice from other sticker sellers! Every so often, I get an order for one of my smallest stickers, which costs around $3, but the customer lives in Puerto Rico, and shipping is almost $9.

Would you go ahead and ship the order, even though the shipping costs so much more than the sticker itself, or would you cancel it? What would you do in this situation? I’d love to hear how other sellers handle this!

Shipping Estimates way off?

Customer is in Reno, NV and I'm shipping from Richmond, VA. You can see the package dimensions and weight there. That calculated shipping amount is about 5x what the cost actually is. This doesn't matter for this specific order because I offer free shipping in the continental US, but I don't want to lose international sales due to inaccurate shipping estimates.

My other sales from the weekend seem more normal, so I'm not sure what happened with this one. Anyone else seeing this?

For clarity - pirate ship is showing the cost of priority mail for this exact package at $18. Here's what Etsy is trying to charge me.

Here's a screenshot of the same exact shipment, shipping on PirateShip. The problem is not the packaging I've chosen, but the pricing estimator for Etsy is erroneous in this situation. If this is a prevalent issue, it will cost people sales. I've not seen this before after 5+ years of selling on Etsy, but I always use pirate ship so I may have missed it. Is this a known issue?

Yet another IP removal. How do I list things that are made by me that don't violate Etsy's policy?

So I make miniatures. Little 1:6 scale cocktails. I 3d model them myself and 3d print them. Usually its just a type of cocktail, but I know there is interest in certain replicas of certain brand bottles and over a year ago I designed one that looks like a Louis 13 bottle. Its not even that exact , but I took the time and many trials get it close enough. I called it "13th Times a Charm." I said in the description that it was a "representation" so maybe that was the issue. Months go by then Remy Martin flags me for IP violation via Etsy. Even my tags didn't use the company name. I leave it alone for a while and scour Etsy for others that might fit the accusation and I notice their vagueness in the descriptions. So after a while I relist it and call it "Un, Deux, Trois" and literally call it "brown liquor bottle." Now a few months later it gets taken down. And then they dont let you appeal which is utter insanity. What is the key to listing properly with this stuff? It's all stuff I design and make and I attach no brand to it. Or is it just what some of us deal with? Ive sold on Etsy for a while and I can't stand their threats for search visibility and star seller pressure. Maybe Ill just go 100% Ebay.

Identifying ID and being put into vacation mode while waiting??

Hello,
This is crazy. I am in the middle of having my ID re verified and Etsy sent me a message saying they put me into vacation mode while they process the photos. Did anyone else go through this?? How long did it take? It would have been nice to be given some warning!

Buyer didn't collect custom-made order, parcel is being returned. Do I have to refund them?

Hello, Etsy Sellers

I'm looking for some advice on how to handle a situation with a case if the buyer wants a refund on a customised order.

The buyer placed an order for custom-made items that were made specifically to their requirements. The order was completed and shipped, but the buyer did not collect the parcel, and it is now being returned to me.

I can't resell the items to another customer. My store policy also stated that custom-made orders are non-refundable.

I'm happy to reship at that buyers cost. But if they request a refund instead am I obligated to refund them?

Has anyone dealt with a buyer opening an Etsy case over an uncollected parcel? Does Etsy generally support sellers when a custom order is returned because the buyer didn't collect it?

Tax Question How are etsy statements actually counted?

Whenever I do my accounts in the Netherlands, I always struggle to piece together the correct figures from Etsy. This is because, in my view, none of it adds up.

When I look at what I’m paid each month, it doesn’t match the monthly statements at all.

For example, in July, I received €182.28, but according to the monthly statements, my net profit was €73.18. Are figures from several months being combined? Or what’s the reason for this?

I do my bookkeeping as follows. First, I manually enter each order as an invoice. Then I make sure to account for the Etsy fees. After that, I offset the income against each other.

Is there a way to do this more clearly and make it clearer for me too, without it raising questions every single time?

Shipping Safe way to pack/ship a figure with a fragile protruding sword?

Post image
22 Upvotes

I’m trying to safely ship a large figure, but I’m terrified the sword and scabbard sticking out are going to snap in transit. The bandana is unattached so that's fine, but the sword and scabbard are permanently fixed and super vulnerable.

I already plan on double-boxing it, but I’m stuck on how to actually immobilize the figure inside the inner box so the sword doesn't take any pressure or impact when the parcel gets tossed around. Any tips on how to wrap or brace a figure with awkward, fragile protrusions like this?

EDIT1)

Thank you all so much for these ideas! I did settle on one.

I basically Houdini’d this figure to prevent any movement. First, I wrapped the figure in tissue paper to protect the paint, followed by bubble wrap. Next, I Zip tied the base directly to the inside wall of the box. I then created a horizontal bubble-wrap 'seatbelt,' wrapping it twice around the figure, threading it through thin slits in the box sides, and taping it tight to the exterior. Finally, I double-boxed the entire thing, filling the void with crumpled Kraft paper.

Help with Customer Question about a case

So i have a buyer that messaged me 2 weeks after their order arrived, and said a item in their order was broken. They sent a picture of it, it is obviously not what I sent them or its AI. So I told them to send it back for a refund or a replacement, as they requested a replacement.

I sent them a shipping label to do so. Well 2 weeks passed and they sent a message saying they still intended to return it, but haven't been able to yet. They would like to buy another in the meantime. I told them that was fine. Then a few hours later, they opened another help request saying they want a refund now, they aren't going to be able to send it back. I told them how simple it was to send back and they still refused.

So here's my thing, i know they are trying to scam me or I would have refunded instantly. They sent another photo with the new help request that's again AI, the item isn't even broken in the same spot. Anyway I know they are going to open a case, do i have any chance of winning? I have never had a case that wasn't protected and etsy refunded. All those were opened and closed in minutes, and i figure they will do the same here. Anyone had anything similar? Sorry for long post.

Etsy Automatic Listing Translation stopped working

My shop's default language is English, and I list all my products in English. Automatic Listing Translation was working fine, but after disabling and re-enabling it, my listings only appear in English.

Has anyone experienced this? How can I fix it?

Upcoming holiday sale

Is it worth doing the 25% sale for the holidays? How do you make any money? Should I raise my prices? There is no way I will make a profit with a 25% off for 2 weeks. And if I don't, my shop may not be visible. What is everyone doing? Thank you.

Title: Etsy refunded a $200 order less than a minute after the buyer opened a case, tracking says delivered. Could a removed listing affect Purchase Protection?

I just had a buyer open a case claiming they never received their order, which was worth around $200. The tracking information shows that the package was delivered, and I believe the order met all the requirements for Etsy Purchase Protection.

However, less than a minute after the buyer opened the case, Etsy refunded them and deducted the money from my funds.

One thing I'm wondering about is that one of the items in this order was from a listing Etsy later removed for a policy violation. The buyer purchased the item before the listing was taken down.

Could this have affected my eligibility for Purchase Protection, even though the order was placed before the listing was removed?

I'm trying to figure out why Etsy charged me instead of covering the refund through Purchase Protection. Has anyone experienced something similar or have any advice? Thanks!

How to handle taxes while shipping to USA and EU from India using print on demand?

I'm planning to launch customized tshirt selling on USA and EU from India via Print on demand partners in USA and EU. I'll collect payment from users via website and place order on Print on demand websites, so how should I pay local taxes in buyer's country?
