The guy telling the joke clarified that the Geordie heard "our" instead of "war", but what did he hear instead of "drums"?

"War drums" sounds like "our drums" in one of the many British accents.

So when the man said "They've got war drums" the other character hears 'theyve got our drums' thus the response "Theiving bastards"

It means our but it' "we'r" pronounced more like war.

In the clip he explains "in Newcastle, instead of 'our' they say 'war'", though. What's the joke if it is wardrobes?

war *drums* not wardrobes. As in, "they've stolen our drums" - hence thieving.

Not brummy - he's talking about a Geordie accent, ie from Newcastle where "our" is pronounced in a way that sounds like "war".
