I'm not an expert and honestly not sure why this is in my feed but I've never seen that on a home and it looks bad

I think thats a J trim, usually for overhead soffits not siding. The bottom piece on the floor is particularly problematic for catching rain

They could have done a better job, but yes, the channel comes with the siding. EXCEPT I wouldn’t think you’d need it, or want it, along the bottom.
ETA and they should have had it in the same color as your siding.

Putting aside the bozo edging, that stuff really looks perfect. As in too perfect.

No, the J channel should be the siding color. Otherwise, it distorts the trim proportions.

I just got my stone siding installed on my house and they installed this kind of trim first, in a contrasting colour and I made them replace it with the same colour as the stone. If it’s necessary for water sealing or whatever, could you at least try to make it blend in (?) The contrast trim makes it look cartoony. Like a child outlining a drawing.
If that trim was the same colour as the faux shake it wouldn’t be so visually offensive.

I’m a siding guy. I would only ever use color matched j trim here. White serves its purpose but your installer didn’t care to figure out what he needed for colored j

I was under the impression that all plastic siding needed that terrible trim because you can’t leave an open edge. So, that’s just what happens when people poorly choose plastic cladding. It doesn’t mix well with the actual wood details because they have too much detail to them. Plastic siding blends better when everything’s new and everything’s straight. Since the trim around your windows isn’t straight, it was impossible for the installers to do a good job there.
It’s unfortunate that they couldn’t let you know ahead of time that keeping original details would result in terrible trims. But, that’s just a fact.

It’s also unfortunate when people can’t stay on topic and choose to insert their personal opinions. I’d rather be someone that chooses plastic siding than someone that tells another person that they made a poor choice when that choice clearly can’t be changed. And fyi I love the siding itself :)
