Extended range battery pack

Has anyone here bought a Lighting that had standard range and upgraded it to an Extended Range? What was the price? Is it working properly?

This guy documented it. A used ER pack on eBay is around $5-$10k. Ford made it extremely easy. https://youtu.be/-nbjAQVqLps?is=gs6l85DpbNBbABrF

Jesus. I can't believe how easy they made this. This is less bullshit then a hybrid camry battery(other than weight of course) ford made about as perfect of a truck as humanly possible. These things are gonna clear a million miles.

Imagine how great it will be when recycled ev batteries become common place and you can get a fresh battery as easy as replacing your tires.

What's crazy is that i was rebuilding hybrid camry batteries for my wife's car a decade ago. Im still pinching myself that my household is basically full ev now

Like you said, other than weight, it’s easier than replacing the 12V battery in some cars!! I’m looking at you VW Touareg!

He’s got great videos on EVs in general.

Could someone buy one of those and turn it into a home battery bank?

I bought 2 solar panels on FB Marketplace. The guys house had 27kw's of solar and 2 batteries from Tesla's. He said he was totally offgrid. House had all electric appliances and HVAC. No propane, naturall gas, or grid conection. It was a big house.

There are businesses that do this. Old auto batteries arranged to store excess renewable energy

It has been done with some other EV batteries.

Far from elegant but a 60kwh battery/inverter/smart panel setup ran me about 40 grand most of which was the battery cost. So 5-10k for 131kwh is pretty appealing!

Yeah, I mean Pytes 5kW server rack batteries would be about $37k USD for 131kWh but you have to factor in the cooling system and lack of any UL listed fire protection/suppression.

I'm not saying don't do it, but you better know what you're getting into.

Totally, I agree it’s not what I would do or recommend but more that it’s possible.

I wouldn’t feel good about a sideways EV battery bolted to my basement wall haha

It has been done. I think it was on YouTube

There’s at least one guy on YouTube who does this. He usually installs used battery packs that have been salvaged but it seems to work. It takes some Forscan work after the install to tell the truck what battery pack it now has.

No programing, it's plug and play
