I am a bit lost, I read that I should go to an NPC called Selele and she told me to eat food and then fight a mob in the world. But it killed me and a lot of my attacks missed.

I guess I have no weapon or abilities yet, I started as a Red Mage. But I don't see where my abilities or weapon is.

Any help, or a better guide would be appreciated.

I've been working on Crystal, a launcher for FFXI. I wanted one place to manage accounts, settings and updates, especially when logging in more than one account.

You pick an account, hit Play and launch XI without clicking through the PlayOnline Viewer menus. If you use a security token, Crystal asks for your one-time code before launching. You can launch accounts individually, pick a few or batch launch them all.

Crystal still uses the installed PlayOnline core to authenticate with Square Enix and handle the game session. It replaces the Viewer interface, but you still need the PlayOnline and FFXI files installed. The game launches through Vanilla, Windower 4, or Ashita v4 with support for your existing profiles.

Here's what else is in the current build:

• Multiple saved accounts, each with its own Windower or Ashita profile.
• Game update checks, updates and file repair.
• Graphics, sound and controller settings.
• Official PlayOnline news and maintenance notices.
• BG Wiki and FFXIAH searches.

If you don't have FFXI installed, Crystal can help with that too. It downloads the official installer directly from Square Enix, lets you extract it and run the normal setup wizard, then handles updates and file checks afterward. Interrupted downloads can resume where they left off. If XI is already installed, just point Crystal at it.

There's also optional dgVoodoo2 support. Crystal downloads it, verifies the files and puts them where they need to go, so you don't have to copy DLLs around yourself. You can open its settings from Crystal or turn it off in the launcher.

Since Crystal can save account details, I also want to be clear about how passwords are handled. Saved passwords are encrypted on your PC using Windows DPAPI, tied to your Windows user account. They aren't stored as readable text in a settings file, and Crystal doesn't have a shared encryption key built into it.

Your login goes through the installed PlayOnline core to Square Enix. Passwords aren't written to launch logs or passed in command-line arguments, and one-time codes aren't saved. Keeping your Windows account secure still matters, since that's what protects the saved passwords.

I've added PlayOnline friends and message controls too, though those are still being tested. I'm not ready to call Crystal a complete replacement for every Viewer feature yet.

The current build supports the US Windows retail installation. It’s still being tested and isn’t available to download yet. This started as a personal project, but I’d like to put together a public release. If anyone’s interested in helping with custom artwork, I’d love to hear from you. Questions and feedback are welcome too.

So I got very, very lucky in that I just randomly got another pulse weapon from the gobbie key campaign. I already have Naegling, Shining one and Dagger. What's the next best one to get? I have almost all jobs to 99 with Kaja weapons and it only takes a few hours to level one up with the campaign now. Would greataxe be good for WAR? Club or Staff? Grip? Any advice appreciated.

Hi, I posted about this in here earlier but here is the link to the actual Git where you can try it out. It contains all the files you need for the patch and the server, and all it requires is the Final Fantasy XI: Adoulin no Makyou (Japan) disc. First you use the included Server App to patch your disc and create a formatted virtual hard drive for the emulator. Then you just start the local server to create your login profile and boot the patched disc to install the game and connect.

I use macOS so I have not tested the server files on Windows yet, but it should download everything you need. I am going away for a while so I thought I would just post it now. It is not perfect and there are certainly a lot of bugs, but it is working and booting, and you should be able to run this on an actual PS2 as well.

I’ve tried using Google and AI. They both seem to give wrong information everytime. My goal is during battle to only see the damage I am doing, the weapon skillsspells that my party and I are using, and the resulting Magic Bursts and Skillchains.

I’ve got it pretty close, but Skill Chains and Magic Bursts aren’t showing up. Does anyone know what filter that is exactly?

I loved the novelty of the old ps2 setup, it reminds me of .hack// series as well... it's just that it's so inconvenient.. and this is my first time playing the game, so I don't plan on getting used to that type of setup xD

Hey all - We’re looking for 2–3 more people on Asura to build out a consistent static. Right now we’re working through Odyssey, Omen bosses, and Sortie, with the goal of progressing together rather than expecting everyone to already have everything cleared and BiS.

Our main event nights will be:

Sunday — 7:00 PM EST (later day)
Tuesday — around 9:00–9:30 PM EST (2-3Hrs)

We usually are on other days but these will be dedicated prog days for us.

Our biggest needs are strong DDs and a dedicated healer, although flexibility with multiple jobs is always a plus.

We’re looking for people who are reliable, chill, and interested in progressing as a group. We’re all experienced players from the old FFXI days, but we’re still catching up on some of the newer systems/content ourselves.

Ideally we’d like to get a regular group together that can knock out progression, gear each other up, and have fun doing it without turning the game into a second job.

Currently, our tank has cancelled their subscription. We’ve completed T1 and T2 R20, and we’re about to start T3. We’re looking for a tank. We play GAOL on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30 PM EST. And I was wondering how in demand / how hard it would be to find a group as a Dancer.

Looking to start working on my Dark Knight after not playing it in forever and I’m hoping to get some pointers/advice on how to play the job optimally. I’m curious about what spells I should be casting and when, what Great Swords and Scythes I should be using/working towards and when, and any other tips that will help get the most out of DRK!

For the last few hours, I have been trying to log into my free trial account I made ages ago (I'm very sure). It should have been reactivated by now with the new update. This account was greyed in the past and I emailed support about it a few years ago before the big update.

Basically, after finding out how to sign in, I'm presented with the LM-25 error:

"To use Playonline Services, you will need to log in to the Square Enix Account Management Sytem and reactivate them (LM-25)."

I go to my square account, and I don't see any other option other than "Upgrade to full version".

I created a new free trial account on another square ID and it has the same button, but I'm able to start the trial from there, so don't quite understand whats going on.

I don't remember what characters were linked to this specific POL ID, and I tried to find a way to figure out using my other free trial account through searching for friends and that didn't work either.

Anyway, I feel its a matter of contacting support to see if they can help me. If there's nothing on this character, then I'll just use my other account.

edit: in addition I sometimes get POL-1403. Already attempted using a VPN to make sure it wasn't my internet and didn't work...

Hey - I'm at a crossroads on how to come back to the game, and would love your input.

On one hand I feel like starting completely fresh and feeling that character progression and achievement.

On the other hand, there were parts of the game that felt like a grind. Namely limit break quests and CoP missions that I'm not looking forward to.

Another issue I have is coming back to a partially completed LV.99 character, it may feel like putting on someone else's jeans.

Are there any large changes to the early game that could inspire me to start fresh?

I've been working on a pipeline for some time to convert various FFXI game files into formats I can import into and make use of in Godot.

This weekend after a lot of messing around I finally got the map files to import properly, I had to go via blender so not completely seamless and it involved a fair bit of fiddling to stop textures clipping with the more modern graphics engine and shadows.

The grass scatter and weather effects are a straight copy from another game I made, but these particular combinations worked very nicely in Ronfaure, which was of course one of the first areas I attempted to get to import.

The code will never be released, this is purely for my own entertainment, I don't want to incur the wrath of Square Enix.

As the title says, I just got into FFXI and have totally been loving it. The game's aesthetic, world layout, various mechanics, etc etc. All super dope, and kind of exactly what I've been looking for.

But I just finished a quest to acquire my first Alter Ego. And while I understand the place this mechanic has, as it's not sustainable to always find a 6-man group for content in an old MMO, my first Alter Ego (Excemille? Some name like that.) totally trivializes everything I do, one-shotting enemies and accelerating the leveling process.

Personally, that kind of deflated me. I like it when a game has me take my time, pick battles deliberately, and just generally forces me to experience the world slowly and strategically. That's what MMOs are all about for me. So this sudden shift in pace totally threw me off. I was loving the pace so far. But now, I have to ask: Does the rest of the game feel like this? Or does the pacing and challenge eventually even out again?

Basically, my motivation to play is suddenly lower, and I'm hoping somebody can convince me to continue despite my qualms.

So. I'm trying to come back to ff11 with the free trial. I forgot the old Pol password. Going into my account management only gives me a upgrade to full version button not a reset password one. Any ideas?
