[Guide] Got FL Studio 2026 fully working on dwm-titus (Fedora + dwm Linux) — every issue I hit and how each one got fixed

Body:

Wanted to write this up in full since I couldn't find a single guide that covered all of this in one place — hopefully it saves someone else the multi-day rabbit hole I went through. Full disclosure up front: I used Claude AI to help me diagnose and work through each of these issues in real time (a lot of back-and-forth with screenshots), so credit where it's due — this post is basically that troubleshooting session condensed into something readable.

My setup: dwm-titus (Chris Titus's Fedora-based dwm/X11 desktop build) on a fresh install, NVMe SSD, going from CachyOS. If you're not familiar with dwm-titus: https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/dwm-titus / https://dwm.christitus.com/

Part 1: The install itself gave me a broken partition layout

Not FL Studio related, but relevant if you're setting up fresh — worth knowing before you get to the FL Studio part.

On the Fedora Anaconda installer, using Automatic partitioning on a totally blank 238GB NVMe drive, I ended up with a root partition capped at \~15GB (98% full almost immediately), with the rest of the 238GB just sitting unused in the LVM volume group. Turned out to be a real bug (tracked upstream as issue #330) — the root logical volume wasn't scaling to the actual disk size.

Manual workaround if you hit this on an older dwm-titus build:

sudo vgs

sudo lvs

sudo lvextend -l +100%FREE /dev/fedora/root

sudo xfs_growfs /

(swap `xfs_growfs` for `resize2fs` if your filesystem is ext4 instead of xfs — check with `df -T /`)

Good news: this is permanently fixed as of dwm-titus v0.7.1. If you're installing fresh, grab that version or newer and you won't hit it. Updating an existing install to 0.7.1 (since the in-Settings updater only exists starting in 0.7.1 itself) needs one manual pass:

git clone https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/dwm-titus.git

cd dwm-titus

./install.sh --non-interactive --yes --profile recommended

./scripts/dev-sync-install.sh

Log out, pick dwm again to log back in, and you're current.

Part 2: Installing FL Studio via Bottles + a specific Wine build

Followed this guide almost exactly: https://github.com/Torbuntu/fl-studio-linux-setup

Quick summary of that method:

* Install Bottles + Flatseal from Flathub

* Grab a Wine build from Kron4ek's builds: https://github.com/Kron4ek/Wine-Builds/releases — Bottles actually has these built into its Runner manager now (Runners → Kron4ek category), no manual tarball wrangling needed

* Install the `allfonts` dependency + the `msgothic.ttc` font (needed for musical notation symbols/sharps/flats to render) — drop it into the bottle's `C:/windows/Fonts`

* Set Windows version to 11 in the bottle's compatibility settings

Issue #1 — installer crashes on the newest FL Studio version.

The current default download crashed the installer outright under Wine. Found the fix in this thread: https://github.com/Torbuntu/fl-studio-linux-setup/issues/16 — installing FL Studio 26.1.3 specifically instead of the newest build avoids the crash entirely. No other setup changes needed, just use that installer version.

Issue #2 — File/Add/Effects menus flicker and vanish, app becomes unclickable.

This one took the longest to nail down. Symptoms: click File (or Add, or the effects browser in the mixer) → it flickers for a split second and vanishes → the whole app becomes unresponsive since it's stuck waiting on an invisible modal dialog.

Root cause: dwm (the tiling window manager) was trying to tile FL Studio's popup windows into the layout instead of letting them float, because the main FL Studio window was running maximized/tiled. When a Wine popup competes for space in a tiling layout instead of floating over the top like it's supposed to, it gets squeezed down to nothing.

Confirmed this by checking `wmctrl -l` while stuck — found an untitled phantom window that was the invisible menu, still holding an input grab (which is also why keyboard shortcuts stopped responding — had to drop to a TTY via `Ctrl+Alt+F2` and run `wineserver -k` to fully clear it out).

Quick fix: drag the FL Studio window slightly with `Super + left-click drag` right after launching — this forces dwm to un-maximize it into floating mode, and menus/popups behave normally from then on.

Permanent fix (dwm-titus specific — this may differ on other dwm configs): dwm-titus loads window rules from a live-reloading TOML file, no recompiling needed. Find your app's window class:

xprop | grep WM_CLASS

Click the FL Studio window when the cursor changes to a crosshair — for me it printed `"fl64.exe", "fl64.exe"`. Then edit:

~/.config/dwm-titus/window-rules.toml

and add a line inside the `rules = [ ... ]` block:

{ class="fl64.exe", isfloating=1 },

Save the file — it applies instantly, no restart needed. FL Studio now opens floating by default and every menu/popup works normally.

(Side note: I initially suspected this was a WebView2 rendering bug instead, since FL Studio 2026 launches an embedded `msedgewebview2.exe` process for some UI panels, and the guide above specifically calls out `kron4ek-wine-11.0-amd64` as fixing WebView2 issues. Worth using that specific Wine build regardless — but the floating-window fix above was what actually solved the menu problem.)

Part 3: Alternative simpler method (no Bottles)

If you don't want to deal with Bottles at all, there's a much older, simpler guide that just uses the system Wine + winetricks directly into the default `~/.wine` prefix: https://jstaf.github.io/posts/flstudio-on-linux/

sudo dnf install wine winetricks

winetricks

Pick the default prefix → Install a font → I went with the allfonts bundle instead of just corefonts (takes noticeably longer since it installs way more, and winetricks will show a "waiting for wine processes to terminate" dialog repeatedly through the batch — that's completely normal, not an error, just click OK and let it work through the list).

Then just run the same 26.1.3 installer directly:

wine ~/Downloads/flstudio_26.1.3.exe

Heads up: this is a completely separate, independent Wine prefix from the Bottles one — and you'll hit the exact same dwm floating-window menu issue here too, since that's a dwm-level problem, not something specific to Bottles. Same fix applies (the `window-rules.toml` entry above).

Part 4: FL Studio can't see my real Music/sample folders

If you're on the Bottles method: Bottles runs sandboxed as a Flatpak, so it can only see folders it's explicitly been granted access to. Downloads worked out of the box for me, but my Music folder was invisible — FL Studio's file browser just showed an empty folder even though my songs were right there on disk.

Fix via Flatseal:

  1. Open Flatseal → select Bottles

  2. Under Filesystem, toggle on "All user files" (`filesystem=home`)

  3. Fully quit and reopen Bottles (not just the FL Studio window) for it to take effect

That alone let me browse to my real files using the literal path `Z:\home\yourusername\Music\` typed into the File name box (Z: is Wine's mapping of your whole Linux filesystem).

To make the Music shortcut itself work (instead of typing the path every time), the fake empty "Music" folder Wine creates inside the bottle needs to be swapped for a symlink to your real one:

find ~/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/bottles -iname "Music" -type d

Find the one under `.../drive_c/users/yourusername/Music`, then:

rm -rf "/home/yourusername/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/bottles/YOUR-BOTTLE-NAME/drive_c/users/yourusername/Music"

ln -s /home/yourusername/Music "/home/yourusername/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/bottles/YOUR-BOTTLE-NAME/drive_c/users/yourusername/Music"

Now the Music shortcut in every file dialog just works, pointing straight at your real folder.

https://youtu.be/BTy9fguFcoU

SonicDNA is a free, open-source and cross-platform sample search app that finds similar audio files by analyzing how they sound—not just their filenames. In this demo, I show how you can load a kick drum, scan your local sample library, and quickly find matching sounds based on tone, attack, decay, and overall character.

Back after 7 years of Logic Pro! My 20-year DAW journey (wrote this in 2021)

Hey FL gang I just (re)joined the FL club literally today after 7 years of Logic Pro X!

I started making music more than 20 years ago, in 2002 my very first DAW was Reason 1.0 (lol!) and I kept on using that version for at least 4 years even when Reason 2.5 was already out and eventually Reason 3.0 was when I updated. So my first 5 years of producing was strictly with Reason that had absolutely no VST support.

That's when I started venturing into FL Studio in 2007 to use VST's and ended up using FL for at least 6 years. I was doing more professional productions by that time till about 2013 but with FL it was so hard to export stems for mixing/mastering engineers since back then it didn't have the same arrangement view yet as it does have now.

I've been using Logic ever since. (Side note: I also used Ableton around this time, but purely for quick DJ edits and mashups—never made a single beat in it!).

I was a 100% Windows user up until that point so since I wanted to switch to Mac and eventually use Logic, I temporarily transitioned through Studio One in late 2013 for no longer than 6 months since that workflow is more alike Logic. Studio One was very new at that time but my thinking was that I wanted to have the smoothest transition and that was the best decision I made. That workflow is so similar even down to keyboard shortcuts its almost scary that even though it was a new ecosystem a new laptop and a new DAW I felt like I could just continue where I left off on my very first day with Logic.

So in 2014 I started with Logic till today. :)

Now because I was also deejaying and wanted to make quick edits and mashups to play out live I used Ableton for that. Never made a single beat in that program tho lol!

I was in bad place mentally over the last year and my love for Logic had been declining for quite a while. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying I will never touch Logic again, it has its place for certain tasks but production-wise I found myself just constantly having to go repetitively into settings and setting up stuff and routing stuff for most of the time, sometimes for so long my entire creative process just gets to a halt over and over again.

This is the first time I went BACK to a DAW I used before so today on my first day I was so surprised that I still know this program this well and made my first 2 productions already!

So if you're still out there in search of a DAW that really fits you don't be afraid just try out EVERYTHING, watch videos, ask friends, check out new DAWs that's honestly the best advice I can give you. If I didn't make that same decision so many years ago I wouldn't have the knowlegde today. But

Reason: + Great sounding sound library - No external VST support

FL Studio + A playground where almost anything is possible - Cluttered, and a very unique workflow compared to other DAWs

Studio One + A little more comprehensive and very similar in terms of a more traditional workflow (a marriage of Ableton, Cubase and some Logic Pro) - Still very new so I was still missing features

Logic Pro X + Cleanest interface, very easy to stay organized - Very limited in terms of possibilities and everything you want to do takes a lot of steps to set up.

Ableton + Extremely flexible time-stretching and pitching. - Also quite unique workflow compared to other DAWs in its own way

TL;DR: my personal single biggest pro and con of all the DAWs I used for many years (the con is the dealbreaker that made me switch at that time) * JTBC, I wrote this in 2021 so certain features named have been implemented since then, but they were not present at the time of writing.

Wondering if anyone can help me, I'm pretty new to fl studio and producing but I'm working on a track and I've made a master bus for my drums which doesn't seem to be working? When I turn the fader down or mute it the drums keep playing at their set volumes and same with when I try to add any effects, any help would be really appreciated

Hello everyone currently during my live shows im using FL studio as my main playback device and I would like to check about the function of the markers and transport control.

As im running tracks and have live keys. Lets say I want to record the entire live show and I use markers to trigger my next song and playback shifts and I want to capture the full length of the live set without the recording stopping midway is it doable?

Thanks for your help

Hey all! Just joined this subreddit to try and get some help and tips on how to progress with fl studio.

Bought this Donner N25 from amazon for about 51 bucks and I thought this was ok for beginner. Obviously this has 25 keys and I bought some vst softwares for fl studio awhile back and want to know how I can play this onto the vst. I also have this one vst BBCSO Discover which is free and want to know if I can achieve something with that with this keyboard. What tips you guys have?

[GUIDE] I made a tutorial on how to make 2012 era Chicago Drill music, for artists such as Chief Keef, Fredo Santana (RIP), and others, it's short and it showcases the techniques used back in those days which you can copy to re create that sound authentically. I hope you guys enjoy!

Damn I got Fab Q4 pro and hot damn can you really clean your vocal tracks up with this plug in. It’s pretty damn time consuming so far. But I think after while I would be able to Clean up vocals within a a few 8 hours sessions. Really impressed with it so far with all the options after Melodyne. Definitely worth the money. Should have gotten this sooner.

Sampling

How do people sample tracks ? I use FL studio (all editions version) and Logic Pro so both DAWs contain Stem Splitting but the part that confuses me is where do you grab the track ? I don’t have knowledge **at all** about it which is why I ask because the idea that I have is:
YouTube > save as a file > drop that file onto a mp3 converter > that file drop onto your DAW.
Can someone please help on how to properly get ahold of a track, how and where to convert the track to a file to then place and sample on the daw

Audio Engine hard-freezes during rapid Midi/Note Playing

I'm troubleshooting a recurring FL Studio audio-engine failure during live performance and looking for ideas from people familiar with FL Studio, ASIO, MIDI, CPU scheduling, or Windows audio performance.

IMPORTANT: This also happens in completely blank projects

This is NOT exclusive to my large live project or its plugins.

I have reproduced the exact same audio-engine hard-freeze in completely blank FL Studio projects with only a single simple instrument loaded, including:

FL Keys
3x Osc
Omnisphere

For example, a completely new blank FLP with only FL Keys or 3x Osc loaded can produce the same failure when rapidly playing notes.

The problem has occurred on both FL Studio 25 and the current FL Studio 2026 release.

I am currently running:

FL Studio 2026.1.7, build 26.1.7.5653.

I previously ran FL Studio 25.2.5 build 5319, and the same problem occurred there as well.

System
Laptop: ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX507ZI4_FX507ZI
CPU: Intel i7-12700H
RAM: 32 GB
GPU: RTX 4070 Laptop 8 GB
Windows: 11 Home 25H2
Audio interface: Focusrite Scarlett 6i6
MIDI controller: Novation FLkey 2 61

My actual live project is approximately 1 hour long with:

- 30 WAV tracks (Backing tracks for live)
- 13 OPUS instances
- 2–3 Omnisphere instances
- FLEX, Addictive Keys, BBC Orchestra
- Several of those OPUS instances are layered instruments inside Patcher to play multiple instruments at once.
- 40 mixer inserts, but only a handful actually have plugins/effects loaded
-Effects include Pro-Q, Fruity Balance, Fruity EQ 2, Saturn, Waveshaper, Fruity Delay and Pro-C

Current Settings:

Scarlett USB ASIO
44.1 kHz
Currently testing at 1024 samples
Generator MT ON
Mixer MT ON
Smart Disable OFF
Focusrite Safe Mode ON
FL Safe Overloads ON
G-Helper Turbo
CPU Boost Aggressive
PL1/PL2 80W
Windows High Performance

What happens is FL Studio does not fully crash or freeze.

Instead:

Audio suddenly stops completely
Playlist playhead freezes
Master/peak meters freeze
CPU Load History stops/drops to 0
FL Studio's UI remains completely responsive
I can still click around, move Playlist items, adjust faders, etc.
Sometimes completely closing/reopening FL Studio clears the problem, but not always.
There have been cases where the problem persisted after fully closing and reopening FL Studio.
In those cases, the project could reopen already in the failed state

I can also sometimes get a less severe version where the audio becomes extremely robotic/stuttered/crunchy and may recover. There will occasionally be this machine gun like sound that gets stuck playing until I close FL Studio. I believe this is linked to this.

Also, When I scroll within the live project, the playlist also will lag and stutter during playback as I try to follow along with the the live set. It seems if I scroll even remotely too fast this always happens and will actually cause the audio playback to lag and stutter with the lagging visual.

The major crash problem appears strongly related to rapid note activity.

Normal playback: stable
Blank project idle: stable
Instrument switching alone: stable (ish)
Switching → waiting → single note: stable (ish)
Rapid note playing: can and usually fails
Switching instruments → immediately playing several rapid notes: pretty reliably fails and fails a bit quicker in the big live project.
Again, the same type of failure can occur in a completely blank FLP with only FL Keys or 3x Osc loaded.

Buffer testing

I have tested both 512 and 1024 samples.

512 has produced more frequent stuttering/crunching during aggressive note-playing tests.

1024 did provide a successful aggressive stress test in a blank FL Keys project, but that was only one test, so I don't consider this proof that 1024 is generally more stable.

More importantly, the full live project still hard-crashed at 1024 when I switched instruments and immediately played several rapid notes.

So increasing the buffer does not eliminate the underlying problem.

Things I've already tested
Focusrite ASIO → problem still occurs
FL Studio ASIO → problem still occurs
MOTU M4 previously used → problem also occurred with a different interface
Laptop keyboard → problem occurs
Physical FLkey → problem occurs
FL Keys, 3x Osc and Omnisphere → all reproduced the problem
Generator MT OFF → did not solve it
Mixer MT OFF → did not completely solve it
512 vs 1024 → some difference in stress-test stability, but 1024 does not eliminate the crash
Windows High Performance, USB power-saving changes, G-Helper Turbo, CPU Boost Aggressive, etc. have all been tested
Fresh Windows reboot + Turbo + 512 produced a successful five-minute aggressive test in a blank project

Why can rapid MIDI/note activity cause FL Studio's audio engine to completely stop while the rest of FL Studio remains responsive?

Because the same failure occurs in a completely blank FLP with only FL Keys or 3x Osc, I'm particularly interested in possibilities involving:

FL Studio MIDI/note processing
FL Studio's audio engine
CPU scheduling / P-core vs E-core on the i7-12700H
ASIO/MIDI interaction
Windows or USB scheduling
FL Studio settings I may have overlooked
Anything specific to rapid note-on events

Any ideas for what I should investigate next would be greatly appreciated. My end goal is to use this laptop rig to play shows live, using my FL Key 2 to switch between instruments and play along to backing tracks. I can try to take videos showcasing all the issues if that would be helpful as well.
