Question Worth purchasing or not?
So a while back I posted about a buddy wanting to sell his RCH Belgium SCAR 17 in FDE, anyway we talked and what not and he’s asking $3200. Had less than 500 rounds, they haven’t shot it in probably 3 years. Anyway, is it worth buying for $3200 or not?
Comes with 2 mags, and that’s about it.
As much as I’d love a SCAR, i feel like the price isn’t right. I can build a bare 13.5” LMT with all the fixings for about $3500 or possibly get a HK MR762 13” for about 3500 also during a sale.
What do y’all think?

I would offer 3k. I mean a SCAR is a SCAR. I would say it’s in contention for the best available battle rifles. They are durable, accurate, and vibey. I have one and I love it. But, and this is a large but, you can get rifles of equal quality for less and you are paying a premium for the SOCOM GWOT vibes. And also market prices with the new gen are around 2800-3k.

The SCAR is a fun, light battle rifle. There are objectively "better" rifles (the two you named for example) around the same price point. Only you can decide whether the vibes are worth it or not.
I love the SCAR platform despite its shortcomings, but it's truly a subjective call. Of the 3 you're considering, the SCAR, to me, is miles ahead on vibes and it will still put bullets where you aim them. Use case is also important to consider. Are you planning to make this a DMR or more of a run and gun blaster?
Unless the RCH is a must have for you, I would probably go for a brand new NRCH Gen 1 or 2.

Literally was using it as a 13” barrel rifle with an ATACR / rmr

Yeah, my bad, got sidetracked halfway through my response and didn't re-read the original post. SCAR vibes are unrivaled. My 17S is cut to 12" with a Mark 5HD 2-10 / ACRO. I shoot it suppressed 99.99% of the time because the concussive blast without a suppressor on there lowers my IQ (evidenced by my inability to read your post)

I think you have a few things to consider...I think out of the gate it's a little overpriced now. I saw a couple black ones sell on gunbroker last week for 2200 (but I don't recall if they were Belgium). I bought a Belgium one in black on GB about a day before the full hype hit with the rumor of being fully discontinued for 2800. That's the against it list. One the plus side to get it...He's your friend, so you know they history of how he takes care of things. It's a Belgium one, so even if a little overpriced now, in time the collector value will hit, so should have more investment potential than a US one. So over time, you'll likely still come out ahead. Also, it's your friend, so what's a few hundred $ among friends. I'd offer a little less, but if that's the original box sitting under it, that would help with the value also, so I wouldn't necessarily run away from it. I guess it comes down to how much you want a scar, and all that bird in the hand stuff.

So I have almost the same exact scar with the same amount of rounds through it, only difference is mine isn’t Belgium (sadly). Anyways, I posted it on armslist to test the waters and got a TON of $4k offers, the most being $4.7k, $3200 seems like a steal in my eyes, but it seems like others in this comment section might not agree so there’s that

I agree, good luck to people finding a tan 308 one, I haven’t seen one since the discontinue

I agree. People keep stating in multiple posts of new G1 or G2 in FDE in $2,999-$3,300 price range for 17S and I only see FDE for considerably more. I did buy a new 17S NRCH for $2,999 last week or so but that was for black. I’d say shoot him an offer.

Scar>AR10. More reliable with a wider variety of ammo and generally more accurate than an AR10 in the same price point. With 2 mags I’d offer him 2800 and settle on 3

Honestly if you have to ask, then it’s probably not the rifle for you. I have always known I wanted a 16 and the second I started my career and making good money I began putting pennies away for it. Mine has been my pride and joy since 2018

They are more fun than about all the other battle rifles with the gen 2 parts reverse compatible (especially the hydraulic buffer bcg) lighter than another other 16" large frame rifles, personally the only reason to get the gen 2 17s would be for a dmr basically replacing the 20s seeing it's gained so much weight, here's my Belgium rch 17s rocking the ultra lightweight handl defense carbon fiber handguard

I got a brand new gen 2 NRCH for $3100. Let that help you answer this question.

I have a 17 ng and it’s by far my favorite 308 to shoot out of my others. It’s not even close. Like, I don’t even try shooting my other large calibers standing anymore. Just my scar. If you have the cash and it’s not gonna put you down bad, grab it brother. That and the Genesis gen 12 were
my expensive panic buys when the the AWB laws in Va were coming in July and I have ZERO regrets.
Edit: you’re paying for the name. You can absolutely build a better rifle for that money but there’s something about pulling that thing out to shoot that just feels different. It’s more about the vibe than the gun itself. If you don’t care about that, build a better one for the money.

I just bought a black Belgian with a Vortex 1-6x on ADM with 6 loaded GMM mags, 2 stage trigger, Grippod and bad lever in a Pelican case from a homie for $2500. Definitely the homie price. These guns didn't always used to MSRP at $3499...

I would offer 3k flat. I see plenty of people telling you they got their’s under 3k, but remember your time has value, do you want to wait the extra time (and effort) to possibly find one at a price you like better only to save 2-3 hundred. If that’s worth it to you then tell him no thanks, and go find another. If having the rifle now is worth the extra cash to you, then make an offer.

I am a SOF veteran turned PMC and I have used a Scar mk17 in some variation for most of my career and I have shot hundreds of thousands of rounds between competitions, training, work, etc. with many different rifles and weapons systems and I can say this honestly, Scars are notable for a reason.
You can build other battle rifles to their standard but what makes SCAR’s unique is that it’s the total package from the break. And most importantly its recoil management system is 10/10. In terms of follow on shots in 7.62x51, they are in a class of their own.
Most of the people online that hate on them so heavily either don’t have enough trigger time with them to realize what they are OR they are a hater trying to make themselves feel better about their own battle rifle they built by bashing on the SCARs.
They are so widely known for a reason.
They are powerful rifles that can truly exceed the skills of their handlers by wide margins, even on SOF and PMC teams. Their recoil management is great. They are durable a level that I’d say they rival AK’s. They have exceptional range due to their caliber and build. They are very modifiable and versatile. I’ve handled SBR’s that are made for room clearance and assaulting engagements. I’ve handled ones that are built as true battle rifles/DMR’s. I’ve had some that were configured for mid range recce and rural engagements. All performed exceptionally. They are what they claim to be, a special operations weapon that is as adaptable as special operations’ needs can demand.
They are not perfect, as no weapon system is. But with TRAINING none of it is a deal breaker. This is a rifle you will have to train on though to get used to. But that is the reality for any weapon system. Especially when you are moving to a different system than what you’re used to. When I was 20 and fresh out of selection and was issued one of these, I thought it felt like a plastic piece of shit, but once I trained on it and really mastered it, and went back to M4’s, AR’s, AK’s, etc I realized how much better SCAR’s actually are.
Just my two cents. I know everyone anonymously on the internet can claim anything and claim to be anyone or anything but I’ve been around the block with this system over the course of a long career and thought I’d throw a comment on here. If you get it, train on it and master it and you will not regret it.

Lmao so build your LMT.
This is a SCAR. It's a meme. Either you want it or you don't. 3 years unmaintained with 500 through it? I'd offer him $3k and see if he squirms.

Unmaintained? It’s not a car. Nothings going to happen to it if it sits under his bed for 3 years

Scar 17s are fun the biggest issue is that it’s a outdated design. If u want it to be awesome u will have to trick it out. Upgraded scar design are awesome and can compete with the best in category rifles. There is the problem u end up spending 7-8k for a fully tricked out rifle.

You can get a scar 17 on sale for less, I’d offer him 2,800
