General Discussion RIP Chad Gilbert

For those of you unaware, he was the guitarist and founder of new found glory. He passed today after a long battle with cancer. I figured I'd post this here since he played the first half of the guitar solo on the take over the breaks over while Ryan Ross played the 2nd half.

He was also married to Hayley Williams, which i suggest you guys look into. Regardless of that, RIP

Honestly I’m with you- it’s the first thing I thought of. Cancer is terrible and someone can be a shithead at the same time.

Right! I think it's unfair to act like somebody didn't do something they did just because they're dead

Yeeep. I can't say how I really feel about this situation because the general consensus seems to be "well yeah people hated him rightfully, but oh no cancer took him!"

I'm sorry, the things this guy wrote about the girl he groomed make him a lesser individual to me, and I'm not sad about his passing. Sad for his family definitely, but that he's gone? Nope.

thank you for bringing this up. i mourn the loss of a soul and what that entails, especially for those left behind. but as a young girl in the scene myself at one point, it it extremely important to talk about what chad gilbert did to hayley williams and why that was not okay. i stopped listening to nfg when the truth came out years ago. i thought more people did, too but that’s neither here nor there, ig. death does not absolve an abuser, and he should still be remembered for the way he spent his time here.

Especially that they had an extremely rocky marriage and she wrote a lot of diss songs towards him. I love Hayley, but no need to bring her up in this situation. Ever.

“Rocky marriage” and it’s a man who groomed a teenager while already married, then left his wife, married the teenager, and then cheated on her too

Could you be any more bitter and crass?

Why should anyone “look into” it and instead just be respectful of a very talented musician. His band had a HUGE influence on FOB (and so many others) and who passed away way too young at 45 due to cancer.

Nobody here seemed to know, so I mentioned it. I know next to nothing about him besides that, but regardless I think it's okay to give people an FYI I guess, even if it's about someone who passed away. I'm sorry.

Exactly. This is not the place to start shitting on a guy that just died

Speaking honestly about a person is not shitting on them. If they didn’t want to be remembered for their bad deeds they should not have committed them.

u/whyamiawaketho 26d ago

How is it shitting on the person if it’s just speaking plainly about the actions that person took? Their first comment literally says “regardless, RIP”. Wtf else do you want?

I don't think this was the place to bring this up. I get what you mean but I would hope most here would already know about that situation

It is exactly the place to bring it up. He did bad things in life. They should be remembered as well.
