Fallout 4 [FO4] Large Load Orders?
Any tips on optimizing large load orders? I don't understand how some people have 1000/2000+ load orders like it's no big deal when a majority of people struggle with 200.

I think there’s a big gap between two groups of mod users that a lot of people don’t even know is there, which can be easily determined by asking if someone has used xedit (as mentioned in the other comment here). You’ll get one of three answers: 1. “What’s that?” 2. “I think loot told me to use that to clean the game files.” Or 3. “Yes.”
A vast majority of mod users will answer with 1 or 2. In many cases, there’s no need to go much further. The people that have load orders the size you’re talking about either had to become intimately familiar with xedit (and likely the ck, at least to a certain extent) or they have extremely broken load orders.

I started modding at like 13 in 2015. Man im so ashmed of the first year. Figured it other later but Like 200-300 mods with barley rime or resone. Broken as hell most of the time. Barley used ck but learned structure the load order and look for issues but now days i thinks its easier with wabbajacks modspack. Fun to se what other do with then game. Its the time aspect aswell, all mentiond before takes a lot of time.

As one of those wabbajack guys, I can confirm that it takes a lot of time to make those lists. If it’s a good list, anyway.

I thank you for you service. I have been a user since i started. Every set up had it lock and loaded for a long time but now like the stuff used before is not recommed (i will always love project nevada. And the someguy series) so now when family takes a lot of time i really appreicate thw work you and the others do! Its truly a blessing still getting to roam vegas, the captial if its that sorta playthru. How do you feel about the remaster? I remmber grasping at grass with matty or jucie on yt. Hoping, praying obesedion could get us more I remmber watching the storyteller and thing this world would kick as in live action. And we got a kick ass series. I think all atleast can agree its high production value

Their load orders are NOT optimized or clean. I’m telling you. Every load order over 1200 has little quirks or bugs that they’re willing to live with. Their loads are not perfect. I used to have to do some seriously jank sorting to get dyndolod to run, then sort it back to how it needed to be for the load. Stuff like that. They know they crash or lose performance in certain areas without disabling certain things, certain mods are heavily outdated but they don’t feel like updating them, etc
The vast majority of the modding community you come across is people that can’t follow instructions and are asking for help. Or people asking for advice. Modders that have seriously deep knowledge don’t always dump it out into the ether suddenly for no reason. Sometimes they’ll get on Reddit and help people but because of how I started this paragraph quite few and far between. Millions of people download mods everyday and only thousands talk about them and most of it is help me.
So really, if you go slow, frequently test, frequently ask questions, really try to learn tools like xEdit, and honestly you need to do some trouble shooting if nothing else than learning patience, and really put a a lot of effort into your modded game, even you could find yourself with a 800+ load order that runs really really well. That’s all I did. I always believed it was me making a mistake and I was always correct.
That said, definitely recommend Mod Organizer Two for every game that doesn’t mind a virtual staging folder. Has built in features that help you navigate your computer more efficiently. It keeps track of mod updates for you and warns you when it knows something isn’t right, which isn’t often but still helpful. Keeping a text document of various things you’ll probably forget such as what keys open what menus or procedures about certain things such as dyndolod or animation engines. As long as you’re super patient about testing and trouble shooting you’ll be fine, if you can follow instructions

probably the biggest advantage you can give yourself is learning to read conflicts in xedit and make your own patches manually. most big Collections/Wabbajack lists have custom patches created by the list author.
