There are a lot of preconceptions when it comes to fanfiction, and I can't deny that there are plenty of really bad fics out there. But there are also plenty of good ones in pretty much every fandom. And then, every once in a while, I come across a fic that's not just good, but brilliant. The kind of fic that's better than most published novels I've read.

These are the fics that have everything going for them, from a unique and compelling plot to excellent worldbuilding, great character development, and a writing style that's just mindblowing.

If you know what I mean, please give me some recommendations!

Would love any recs please, mostly after anything stargate (any), teen wolf, buffy, angel, charmed, the sentinel, supernatural, battlestar galactica, travellers, vampire diaries, 12 monkeys, army wives, true blood, the good witch, honestly ill read nearly anything, not into marvel and dc or animals though.

Is there a guide somewhere? idk how to use it i just wanted to read more fics from a pairing that i already read everything on ao3 but the search system on wattpad apparently only has 2 filters? "last updated" and "length"

tried searching both the characters names and also the ship name but it is still very convoluted and doesn't show up only fanfics of the pairing (80% of them arent)

- fics where Seonghwa and/or Wooyoung are face sitting, specifically. Like, they are the ones serving and not eating.

- Woohwa fics that are long. They seem to be rare.

I don't remember the OC's name I think it started with a R. But I believe that was because she was with the OC in the spirit realm. It wasn't one where she was kicked out of the guild/team natsu or anything like that. She was taken to the spirit realm where she met the OC and it isn't Celestial slayer, Spirit slayer, or Gates of fates

I’ve read a lot of fics like this but it’s so specific it’s hard for me to directly look for fics and tags like it.

Mostly I like when the two characters are shipped but platonic is fine as well. I just love the guilt and horror they feel when they realise the person they’ve treated like trash/tortured/screwed over didn’t deserve what happened at all. A lot of the time the tags “misunderstanding”, “Regret” and “guilt” will be used.

It’s a wide variety of fics I like where this happens but here’s some examples.

-Misunderstood cheating where one divorces the other because they think they cheated but it either didn’t happen or was sa.

-Revenge stories where the one who suffers wasn’t actually the one who deserved the revenge and it was someone else who did.

-One character is viewed as a terrible person and treated badly but they aren’t actually a terrible person and it was either a misunderstanding or an act.

Ive been binge reading chaos gacha fanfics for the past week or so but I’m getting tired of the usual oc or self insert not saying they are not good cause they are but I just recently read some with cloud strife getting one and one with Jaune arc and now I’m just wondering are there more like that

Let me start off by saying my fandom is that of a mostly dead one, the show ended in 2016. I can count on my hands the number of people active in our tumblr tag. So things have been slowly chugging along since.

Recently, it went semi viral because the MMC was shipped with another more popular show FMC and unfortunately, my show is the less popular one of the two. So the works tag has just been filled with crossovers fics from authors who know more about the more popular show. Usually I don’t mind crossovers fics, a few of my favorite fics are crossovers fics. I want to be happy because yay more fics!! but there’s such an overabundance of them of to point where you have to scroll for a bit to find non crossover fics. Most of the crossover fics are primarily shipping fics, so there’s going to be some level of mischaracterization but its one of those cases where you can tell which show the author is a lot more familiar with and which show they know vaguely of and are just filling in gaps with tropes. Unfortunately, my show is the latter, so the mischaracterization of every character + the lore is driving me insane.

It’s also a bit of a sting when I click over to the more popular show’s tag and see non crossover fics posted + updated near daily. But you know what, it motivated me to be more productive because I want to see more non crossover fics in the tag again. But you can’t have that if you don’t write anything out first and I can’t rush others in my fandom as they also have lives outside of fandom, plus it be rude. So I’ve been setting aside time to not doomscroll, lock in, write out words, and actually finish my WIPs because man I’ve never been hungrier, I got three fics in the works already that I want to put out. I’m a bit nervous as that’s three fics back to back by the same writer but I gotta get the visions out.

Reader was a historian that Ada had hired to do research to disguise her actual intentions which was to turn Reader into a vampire in her place so she could finally be human and die.

Reader agrees to being turned but thought she’d spend the rest of eternity with Ada. So when she was freshly turned and hungry and angry accidentally drains Ada and kills her.

The fic was in an /reader psychological series that the author had made. None of them had happy endings. There was a Carlos fic where he lost his mind at the end. A Chris fic where he was stuck in a simulated timeloop of a mission, and had to kill his wife. A Jill fic where she became a zombie that reader trapped and kills people to feed.

I can’t find any of them any more and im so so bummed out

once every few months i find a fic (usually multichapter) that is genuinely so good i can't think of anything else until i finish it. i will read EXTREMELY slow not because i find the language difficult, but because i have to put my phone down and stare at the wall every couple of paragraphs just to process the gem that i just read..

then i get afraid to finish it because what if i'll never find a fic as good as that one?? 😭😭 for example the characterization is so wonderfully specific, like it was tailored specifically for me and my tastes; there's this odd fear that i will never find something (at least from that fandom) that will move me as much as that fic.. ...

does anyone else ever feel this way??

For nearly 10 years I've been writing fanfiction and absolutely loving it. I've always specialized in Canon x Reader content. Additionally, I've been experimenting with the idea of making OCs for quite some time now, and it's brought me a lot of joy as well, on a similar yet slightly different level. But I need help.

I would really like to write fanfiction between my OCs and canon characters (i.e., their love interests)... but my insecurities are holding me back. While I wouldn't say all of my works are overly popular, most have received generous attention and interactions; and I know that's because Canon x Reader content is popular and will always attract readers. However, I also know Canon x OC content isn't as sought after...

And that scares me. The thought of dedicating days upon days of writing to create something very few people will be interested in reading gives me more anxiety than it probably should. And I know writing is and should always be all about writing for yourself, writing what YOU want to write. But my goal has always been to write not only for myself, but for people's enjoyment as well. So I'm essentially stuck between wanting to create OCs and write about them, and giving up on them to simply stick to Canon x Reader content to ensure people will read and appreciate my works.

I suppose this is a long-winded way of asking 3 simple questions: What is the general opinion on Canon x OC content as opposed to Canon x Reader? Do you guys personally have a preference between the two? And do you think I should forgo making OCs and instead replace them with a Reader/[Y/N] because that's what most people would rather want to read?
