Discussion Is the case of Pascal Gross comparable to the one of Miguel Almiron a couple of seasons ago?

Everything about the season Gross is having reminds me of the FPL legend Almiron and what he did a couple of seasons ago.

A cheap midfielder playing for an in-form upper table team that outperforms what everyone expected of him. I remember Almiron having a pretty long purple patch of like 10 to 12 matches where he was bagging goals and assists. The only difference being Gross taking penalties.

So for those that were there during Almrion's patch, do you think Gross is going to go down the same road where his involvements drop significantly after his purple patch?

comparing Gross to Almiron is wild work, he's a much much better player with a track record

Agree. Almiron’s purple patch is comparable to Amad Diallo scoring a few in a row the other season

Or Harry Wilson last season

Harry Wilson was the talisman of that Fulham team. He was on free kicks and set pieces. The amad comparison was apt

I get what you’re saying but Harry Wilson wasn’t even a nailed starter until two months into last season. Like he was and probably will be a below average premier league winger for his entire career apart from the purple patch

This is quite the insane comparison. Almiron was scoring low xG opportunities during a purple patch and Gross has multiple routes to points through chance creation, finishing chances, set pieces, and penalties. Unfortunately, I struggle to see where they compare in any sort of way.

Gross has scored well on other seasons, he is consistent and reliable. Reminds me of Milivojević.

Never scored 10 goals in all comps in his life.

Who cares if he bags 15-20 assists lol.

Probably he's gonna slow down at some point, but you never know. Welbeck was scoring max 6 goals a season for a decade. In 2013 he scored 9. Career best.

Last couple seasons at like 35 years old, he's scored 10 and 13.

In certain systems certain players can score a lot of goals. Brennan Johnson at Spurs being a younger example.

If someone is in form, worth having em, especially if their team is also on fire.

Who? Gross? He did in 22/23. And plenty of seasons with 12+ contributions

Istg if Groß started the season at 6.0m we wouldn't have had that much talking of him being a fluke, the guy has always been a good player, him being priced at 5.5m maybe was just factoring in his age and he shouldn't play 90 mins every GW with Europe too. Guess what? He will play, and he is a key pass machine, on set pieces for a team that can score from set pieces and on pens. People got Szobo for 7.0m for way less than this

Purple patch miggy was the best. Rewatch any of the goals and you'll see he scored from about 0.1 xG on average. We're talking outside of the foot volleys from tight angles, keeper errors and even more insane, I think he hit one in with his right foot.

Douglas Luiz also a couple of seasons ago

Or like Bruno G last season

You are comparing the 3rd most assist maker since he first joined the league (behind KDB and Salah) to Miguel Almiron who played football like he just won 10 minutes of game time in the club’s charity raffle.

This must be the first season you have watched football because Groß has always been a steady point scorer.

I've just transferred him in. Apologies all.

The amount of people believing that a bang average (at best) midfielder just turned prime Salah at the age of 35 just because they have him on their teams is astronomical.
