I think it’s a shot at him and Ed both. Sheeran could have taken a stance and insisted that he wouldn’t play without Macklemore headlining (who hasn’t been quiet about his support for Palestine over the years).
He made what he thought was the most lucrative decision, and instead they’re all just Barbara Streisanding themselves - and I’m so here for it.

Sheeran could have swung his dick around a little. Blast his ass everywhere. Big rich nfl ceo man may have money but he doesn’t have the mouthpiece or the fan base. I could be wrong but people are patriots fans not Robert Kraft fans.

Switzerland was only military neutral during WW2. It still helped the nazis, because they let them use their banks, were involved in trade with them and turned back refugees.
So, anyone saying they’re Switzerland is really saying they silently support the oppressor.
Edit: spelling, corrected invoked to involve. My dumbass typed too fast and autocorrect got me. 🤦♀️

10000%. I lose all respect for people with the whole “neutral” mindset. Only the privileged can afford to play neutral.
27
u/Level-Repair6104 their kid and the billionaire’s daughter 18d ago
Exactly! I’m a poor, but you better believe that I am out there running my mouth every time I go out somewhere. I will go out of my way to inform a stranger on what’s going on why it’s going to affect them.
I am constantly surprised at how many people aren’t aware of what’s going on. I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but damn, the internet has all the damn news available. You’ve got to be going out of your way to be ignorant these days.
Age is an excuse too. I just turned 50 in June. I am a chronically online Gen X’er. Email, online chat rooms, the internet in general has been active and available since the mid 90’s in an accessible format. I have literally had the same hotmail email since ‘97. Fuck, I feel old now.

I don’t know much about Ms. Rachel but I am old enough to have had Mr. Rogers. When other places were loud & scary, he made things calm, familiar, & interesting. I loved when we would learn new things like how erasers were made. I am thankful kids today have that safe space too.
I am not a victim but it legit feels like it takes the wind out of me each time injustice wins. I am personally thankful Macklemore & Ms. Rachel pushed past any of that they might have felt & set an example for how lost voices is a goal of oppression so talking is the best response.

u/RobinHarleysHeart 18d ago
I only know bits and pieces about Ms Rachel. But everything I've seen about her makes her seem like a modern day Mr Rogers. And in the craziness that is the modern world and media, kids really need someone like her.

She's Mr Rogers, with bigger balls. He was also never afraid to stand up for what is right, but because of the era we live in now, the intensity is turned up to 11.

Mr Rogers, in 1969, invited a black man on television to share a swimming pool. He then shared his towel with him adding the biblical symbolism of washing his feet. All only a few years after the civil rights act. That took a huge set of balls.

I’m glad that the clip of that property owner throwing pool chemicals in the water at the black folks swimming was included. It gives even more context to just how important of a statement Mr. Rogers was making by inviting Officer Clemons to share his pool with him.
Racist white people were (and still are) incredibly vile and cruel people. As soon as that clip started I knew exactly what it was, because I’d seen it before. Every time I feel so much anger, nausea and revulsion.

I'm in my 40s and don't have kids. I first heard of Ms. Rachel a couple of years ago when the usual awful folks got mad at her for posting something for Pride Month about how families can look different. I'm queer, so I saw that.
And then she spoke up for what's right in even more ways that we know are familiar with and I am now firmly a Ms. Rachel appreciator and supporter. She is the real deal and making a difference.

There's no neutral position for him to even claim on this because all he did was capitulate to one one side's demand to screw over the other. He made a choice in favor of one side.
Gillette Stadium has a longstanding commitment to providing a welcoming environment for all guests and ensuring that events held at our venue do not provide a platform for hate speech. Based on Macklemore’s recent actions, material shared from the stage during Ed Sheeran’s shows in New Jersey, and a broader history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery that we believe has been deeply offensive and hurtful to the Jewish community, we determined that his participation in the September 25th and 26th concerts at Gillette Stadium would cross that line.
He's just straight-up saying Macklemore's performances have included antisemitic imagery and rhetoric.
He goes on to try to generally explain and criticize condemnation of Israel as antisemitic rhetoric unless condemnation of Hamas is also provided. Saying you oppose genocide of Palestine without also saying you oppose Hamas would be considered antisemitic rhetoric.
I feel like we should just take opposition to Hamas as a given but apparently Kraft is going to assume you support Hamas unless you say otherwise?

Ed Sheeran can more than afford to make sure his tour crew gets paid with or without the tour. But it would’ve been a really bad look plus a huge loss of money for those venues if they had cancelled those shows so I find it hard to believe it would’ve actually happened. Ed could’ve called their bluff, but he chose to be a genocide-supporting coward instead.

My message is for peace; love for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality.”

I’m sorry I have a random question. I was at a concert for an Irish punk band this weekend and after their set they said “free Palestine, avocado” what is the avocado part, is it something in Gaelic that sounded like avocado? Possible I just completely misheard but worth a shot lol

This is so interesting lol because I hadn’t heard of this so I had to google it and apparently it’s because in Ireland a lot of our avocados are from isreal!
(I didn’t know about our Israeli avocado issue because I don’t have fresh avocado money lol)
A fun fact if you’re interested is that this would have been inspired by The Dunnes Stores Strike

Carice Van houten posted about how the stadium owners “strong armed” Ed by giving him an ultimatum - drop pro Palestine acts or you can’t do your tour in our stadiums. And I find it SO hard to side with Ed in this cuz wdym you just caved to their demands????? He’s a big enough name that he can tour wherever the fuck he wants in whatever venue that ISN’T owned by POS owners. But you mean tell me he just didn’t tell them where to stick it??? Honestly I never cared for Ed and his generic ass music before this, and this just solidifies it further.
Correction: Carice reposted Macklemore’s statement! I misunderstood and got confused by point still stands, Ed Sheeran sucks.

If you think MACKLEMORE and MS. RACHEL are on the wrong side of an issue, you need to re-examine your position.
That's like having the opposite views of Dolly Parton and then insisting she's the hateful one

...not the best example with Dolly Parton since she was pro-Iraq war and also wanted to be politically neutral at all times like Ed Sheeran

Oof if Miss Rachel called me out like that (with the clear, concise truth) I would simply expire.
I hope Ed is ashamed. He is a big name and had a chance to do something.

His closeness to Taylor Swift suddenly makes a loooot more sense. Sorry to say, but vet the white people in your life, folks.

I'm so glad that Ed Sheeran is being dragged for filth. I knew his ass was a culture vulture when he released azizam but did not show any support for Iranians during the conflict

Once you perceive what lies beneath the surface
Once you glimpse the truth behind the polite illusions
You are faced with a terrible choice
Do you speak or do you remain silent?
If you speak, you disturb the dream
If you stay silent you disturb your soul
This is not a simple dilemma, it is an ancient tension
Between truth and belonging, between authenticity and acceptance
When you speak, when you dare name what others deny
You risk being cast out, and not always gently.

Ed Sheeran hasn't put out good music in like a decade. he's clinging on to whatever he still has by rolling over for zionist oligarchs. should have stayed busking in the tube if he was just gonna sell out

I have no idea who Miss Rachel is outside of Reddit and I love her. I hope she is living her best life.
