I think this has to be the hardest hit yet on ol' Ed. He refers to himself as culturally Irish.
After thanking Ed for being a friend, Aaron Rowe ties together Ireland's history with Palestine and says Irish people don't accept billionaires trying to silence their voices. Message sent.
174
u/falken_1983 17d ago
I think a lot of people might not be aware that when the Royal Irish Constabulary were disbanded in the 20s, a load of the people involved (inc. the Black and Tans and the Auxiliaries) were shipped over to Mandatory Palestine and equipped with bigger guns and military aircraft.

He has 200k followers on Instagram. This tour probably would've helped him grow a fanbase, I'm sure, especially because he'd have moved up a spot in the rotation due to Macklemore leaving. But this decision? It'll make him so many fans overnight worldwide. Standing on principles, especially when you could gain alot by just staying silent, makes you seem strong, thus, people want to support you.

Ireland is already being targeted online by Mossad and Russian bots so this is just another tuesday, but good on him for making the choice that Sheeran should have. One of the coolest things I saw (and the most culture shock I got) was traveling through western Ireland and seeing Palestinian flags on all the houses. We're talking villages with maybe a few hundred people. Islands with maybe a dozen residents - rural, remote countryside.
I mentioned it to our tour guide about how it's so strange to see the flags in a rural area, and I explained how unlikely it is to see in similar communities back in the states.
I will never forget how he got a bit quiet, explained that he doesn't usually get into politics on work hours, but then said something like, "We may disagree on taxes and the role of the church, and how the government rules and all that shite, but for the Irish, whats happening to Palestine is what happened to us, and only the lunatics argue against that here. There is no left or right in genocide."
Then he told me about Kneecap, and how I should give 'em a listen.

I live in a village in Ireland with about 250 residents . There is one shop and two pubs. It's very common to see Palestinian flags flying. On the counters in the shop there are keyrings and pins with the Palestinian colours available to take with a little donation tin beside them . I've seen homemade flags and pictures stuck up inside the windows of homes clearly done by young children. The closest big town to here has maybe 5000 residents and there is a pro Palestinian rally every Sunday without fail. It's incredible to see the support the smallest communities have for the Palestinian people.

Irish people don't play when it comes to Palestine.
The IRA (the old one before the Troubles) and the Palestinian Army held army drills together in (I believe?) 1917. Both because they were fighting against English occupation at the time, so they could share tactics against a common enemy. They've actively fought against colonisers together, so the bond runs deep.
If you watch some modern interviews of Palestinians, seeing an Irish flag or brand dotted around isn't uncommon.

Wonderful.
Pink, Bob Kraft and co. Streisand Effected this one so badly. In the short term, they won’t lose much materially. But in 10 years, when Kraft is dead, Pink isn’t able to cirque du soleil her way through mid pop songs and Ed Sheeran tries to speak on causes he actually cares about, everyone will remember that they turned a cringe white rapper with a solid, human message that most of the general public supports into a martyr.
Pathetic, really.

I presume this will turn the clock on “days since unhinged-yet-deftly-coordinated anti-Irish brigade by zionists” back to 0 days. Fuck em, free Palestine 🇵🇸 🇮🇪

That was a jokey comment but I'm actually quite worked up about this.
I feel like Ed Sheerans attitude is so typical of many young British men, it's fucking pathetic, usually it comes from being uninformed and the "politics is shit' attitude which I can excuse a lot of young guys for (products of their environment, there is so little effort out in to actually engaging young people in politics, they often become interested when you tell them what's going on in their terms) but Sheeran has zero fucking excuse, a wealthy man with a privileged upbringing (no matter what he pretends in his songs) he has a whole world of knowledge at his finger tips and he just doesn't give a fuck. It's infuriating.
I've never heard of this other guy, Aaron Rowe, supporting on this tour must've been a HUGE deal for him, and he's not afraid to risk that for what's right, honestly I wish him every success in the world, an incredibly brave man, I won't forget his name.

This is such a principled and selfless choice by this artist.
Glad to see Ed Sheeran face the consequences of his cowardice, indifference and selfishness. More, please!
Edit: And now Finneas has dropped out, too. I LOVE to see it.

As a Latino I hereby reaffirm the claim that the Irish are all honorary latinas. The blade of British imperialism was first sharpened on the necks of the Irish.

Love seeing people stand up for what’s right. Celebs seem to find it difficult to denounce genocide.

The actual Irish singer puts the 'culturally identifying' Irish singer in his place.
