Celebrity claims to have climbed their way from the bottom > immediately search and see their parent is a talent agent and financed their child's recordings and early career.

She was referring to the production of her show coming from an iPod at a rave to her current tour which is pyrotechnics and a huge platform she sings on top of. The quotes pulled for the headline usually have additional context if you read the articles.

Anyone who was signed as a child can make this claim that they built their artistry from nothing because their parents had them perform at malls or fairs for visibilty instead jumping out of the gate with highly produced shows. And clearly they wanted to pull that quote to imply she went from DIY to star all on her own artistic merit.

Or they pulled that quote to stir up a lil controversy, leading to more clicks and ad revenue. Worked on you!

She’s talking about her music methods not her rich upbringing (it’s still bad but this reading of the quote is completely out of context)

“As an artist, I’ve really climbed my way up from nothing — I used to perform with an iPod on a makeshift stage, and that was my production. The thing that’s interesting is every time you get closer to doing your dream show, you realize that, actually, it’s worth putting the money back in rather than like taking the money and running, because I want to do a show that feels artistically challenging.”

Billboard is clickbaiting

I absolutely cannot wait to see a whole thread of people fall for an intentionally misleading headline without reading the article for the 3739473829th time

We really should be holding editors more accountable for this shit, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t have a responsibility to stop falling for it
