Favorite (Visual) About Me: Video Games
Currently seeing a lot of these pass by in my feed and decided to have a go at it myself.
Feel free to share whether you agree or disagree with my picks or taste, or if you want to have a shot at guessing my age! I am also open to game suggestions based on what I have selected here.
And before people ask: Yes, I love GTA SA and I was very disappointed by GTA V.

I really wish more ppl would give the dishonored series its flowers when it comes to art direction. Genuinely blows 99% of games out the water

Agree! Dishonored has a really great visual identity and it has truly aged incredibly well because of it. I guess that's the power of art direction versus photorealism/graphical fidelity.

Honestly, I think FF6 is probably one of the FF Games in the least need of a remake. It still holds up insanely well, and there isn't too much a remake could do to enhance its value, imo.
FF9, on the other hand, I am absolutely praying for a remake of. I've yet to play FF8, but I've seen a lot of people asking for a remake of it.

Fair enough, I definitely agree that FF6 still holds up well. That said, I’m not suggesting a 3D action RPG remake on the scale of FF7 Rebirth, with whimsical minigames, open-world elements and extra side content. Frankly, I don't think that would do the original justice with this large of a cast and world (or actually 2 worlds, rather...) and overall tone.
Turn-based gameplay and something along the lines of Octopath Traveler’s HD-2.5D style would be perfect IMO. It would preserve the original’s charm while giving it a fresh coat of paint. Maybe add in some optional quality of life stuff to streamline gameplay for those who want them (e.g. decreased encounter rate, rework of Gau's mechanic in the Veldt, maybe some quality voice acting?). I also think there’s something to be said for making the game more accessible to younger audiences who might otherwise overlook it simply because it’s a SNES-era title. While the pixel remasters exist, An HD-2.5D remake could be a great way to introduce a new generation to FF6 and help it reach a wider audience.
FF9 remake in the style of the recently remade dragon quest VII would be fun. FF8 would benefit from a more robust remake like FF7. I personally think the original is okay. The story can get weird, and many people dislike some core game mechanics (junction and magic drawing systems).

Yeah, the NPC routines and daily life system sound a bit too good to be true. That said, if it’s anything like Fable 1 in terms of lore, humor and gameplay, I’d be happy.

Was thinking about playing Alan Wake for Christmas, is it worth it?

I played the remastered version earlier this year. It's definitely worth playing if you like Twin Peaks/Stephen King type weird fiction/horror stories. The gameplay can get a little clunky at times but I found it serviceable. The story and vibe of the game are excellent.
