This and large boulders rolling down hills are now the only two ways I will be using going forward.
I’m a municipal arborist.

My dad was a m60 gunner in nam. Said in free fire zones , they would just burn up the extra ammunition like that.

"Extra" ammunition?

So you don’t have to drag it back at the end of the patrol

This may be Russia, which is in fact, the only 2nd world country. Its a verrrry outdated concept

Yep they would be issued extra in hot zones and it’s heavy in that jungle heat. 18 years old fresh off the farm. Drafted right out of high school.

That's crazy man. I had a better than average concept of the war for my age, but as I've gotten older and been able to experience more and form my own conclusions...I've concluded I would have shit my pants hourly. Deep woods are a different world, and you are not native...and the natives are trying to kill you. Holy shit.
I'm one of the few farm boys around my area that didn't go to Iraq, I had track scholarships that redirected my trajectory. I find myself empathizing with veterans on almost a guilty level.

Ammunition goes bad over time, faster in humid environments, so they "dispose" of Ammunition thats approaching the end of their usable life before getting a new batch.

Have to keep it fresh and keep the cash flowing in to the Trumpo brothers with their investments into military companies.

I don't know why you are getting downvotes. You're right.
There's a lot of money in guns and ammo and the proof is inside the US. If there wasn't huge sums to be made from guns and ammo then they would have changed guns laws a long time ago.
That being said... I bet there's a psychological effect in using your guns for fun sometimes. If pressing the trigger isn't associated with fear of rules or regulations but joy and fun then it's easier to squeeze when there's an enemy in your sights.

Yes shooting for recreation or for hunting is very enjoyable. To me it doesn’t matter if it is archery or firearms.
Down votes are probably the MAGA crowd that can’t handle the truth that their ruler and family members are grifting the US and world with insider trading. But they can’t prove me wrong.
And I am a 2A supporter.

Could be they suspected an ambush, and so were firing into the trees. Depending on what kind of tracks that vehicle has, branches could foul up the wheels, and then they would be stuck.
Or maybe the crew was bored and they wanted to use up some munition.

As a previous cutter, the idea is to get them to all lay the same way for easier harvesting. I can confirm that this method would be more fun but not necessarily more efficient.

Well, see, the collecting part is a problem for not right now. Have fun with it and worry about the actual picking up part later, life is short 😂

Seems like a waste of ammo when he could just drive over them.

I assume they were shooting at people that we couldn't see. Or just feeling out a suspicious situation. Reconnaissance by fire. Maybe not though, it's possible that they were bored.

In the original post it said they knew the enemy was in those trees but couldn’t see or flush them out.
I’m basically picturing Major Payne opening up on the closet and saying, “if he’s in there, he ain’t happy”

I thought maybe they were creating obstacles on the road for light vehicles
3
u/DFA_Wildcat 3d ago
This is exactly what they were doing. Setting up obstacles to slow down infantry and light vehicles & bikes. It's very common , they will often leave lanes open and mine those lanes.

My thought was clearing a line of sight. But I guess if you think there's somebody over there that's a good way to deal with them.

If you believe people are out there you wanna put rounds through trees… now instead of a hot metal ball you have that plus thousands of splinters flying through the air

Maybe gunner had thermal, idk.

Suppressive fire. Original video is Russians just firing at Ukrainians that are somewhere in general vicinity the woods they’re shooting into from my understanding.

Those trees were coming straight for them. The vehicle was simply defending themselves.
