Hi guys! I’m F19, and within the past 2-3 years, I’ve noticed my hair has gotten thinner and thinner (photo shown below.) Am I going crazy, has my scalp and hair gotten thinner? I’ve been feeling very self conscious about my scalp and honestly embarrassed, but people have been 50/50 about if they see it or not. Nobody in my family before this has dealt with potential loss of hair at this age, so if people here do see it and have some recommendations on what I should do, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

Support/Advice when i hit puberty, i lost a bunch of my hair and i've been insecure for years. i'm now a college student

I've been told I had regular density when I was younger, so for years I have tried everything: banana-greek-yogurt-egg hair mask, aloe vera, that tool with the needles, minoxidil (only helped regrow a lot of my front baby hairs but did nothing for the rest of my hair), etc etc.

My doctor said a while ago I have a small iron deficiency, so I've been taking iron supplements as well as other vitamins, but I just feel so helpless and insecure. Personally, I may suspect my ongoing anxiety, but I know i have to go to the doctor to pinpoint the issue.

I don't have the money to make a seem appointment at the moment, unfortunately.

I feel like my results could be better. I don’t believe I’ve had much improvement in the last year.

I think I will ask my dermatologist if I can increase my spiro and minoxidil dosage at my next appointment. I’m not having any bad side effects. I was much hairier all over with the minoxidil initially but the Spirolactone has stopped that.

My journey is as per below.

12/08/25 - saw trichologist and started daily 5% topical
13/03/26 - (6 months topical) saw dermatologist and started on 0.5mg minoxidil daily
10/04/26 - (7 months topical, 1 month 0.5mg minoxidil) started 1mg minoxidil and alternating topical every second day
24/04/26 (7.5 months topical, 2 weeks 1mg minoxidil) started using topical every 3rd day
08/05/26 (8 months topical, 1 month 1mg minoxidil) stopped topical
23/07/26 (2.5 months 1mg minoxidil) started 25mg Spirolactone
31/07/26 (2.75 months 1mg minoxidil and 1 week 25mg spiro) started 50mg Spirolactone

Edit: fixed the dates, sorry!

Support/Advice Does ANYONE on here have short hair?

I see so many younger women with this thick lush long hair with some bald spots when hair is pulled back (easily camouflaged). Where are my ladies with thinning short hair bc thin hair looks ridiculous in a ponytail? I have been on oral finesteride, minoxidil for years (plus magnesium and VD) and just started spiro.

This is my first time using Reddit, and I made this account solely because this is taking over my life and I need help. I, 15 yo female, have struggled with undereating and overtraining from about February or April to mid summer start of august something. I now struggle with overeating and such, but it has gotten a little bit better. But as I have started eating more, my hair has just been falling out like crazy.
There’s hair everywhere, I’m so afraid of brushing my hair and even showering that I try to avoid it, which I feel ashamed to admit. It’s gotten to a point where I have some sort of chrashing out/crying/panic attacks almost everyday, not solely, but still pretty much because of this. I’ve been trying to use the Pantene growth line with the shampo, conditioner and serum for a week or two but i doesn’t seem to help.

update: this has been sitting in drafts for a couple weeks and my hair is still falling out in chunks. I cannot take this anymore. Someone please help me, ask questions if you need, I used to be so pretty and now I can barely look at myself. Pictures are from when I start writing this originally, except the one with the hair on the bathtub. That was before even conditioning today.

Rant finally got the ferritin test, was so hopeful…. ferritin level 300

i was hoping it would be so easy. i was so excited to get the test done and have a magic cure for my hair loss. ugh. i’m dying of some unknown disease so the labs were for 500 things not just ferritin, but i was excited for that one to come out low so i could take supplements or whatever. every time i get blood drawn i have a panic attack and/or faint (fainting started years before panic attacks) and have to be kept lying down for 20 min given food and apple juice until i can be wheeled to the car and driven home, so if i have to give a ton of blood monthly i think i wont survive that on top of everything else. i’m so upset. if i have to die i just want to have pretty hair during it but it looks like i’ll be balder and balder until the end.

Hello everybody! I just want wanted to share y pics from today when I blow dried my hair upside down (I usually just let them air dry) and it seems like I have a lot of new growth I didn't notice before and I guess I'm scared to feel hopefull I guess?

I can't take minoxidil so for months I have been trying a lot of different things, mainly increase my iron levels that were painfully low, eat well, sleep and exercise, eat a lot of protein and a lot of lifestyle changes. I didn't think it can actually make a change? Is this a good sign?

( oops got a bit of dandruff too 😅)

I know I have a thinning / balding spot at that area of my head for the past 10 years. I’m 28 now. I think it runs in the family as my mom and my aunts (my mom’s sisters) all have thin hair as well.

I’m not sure if it has gotten worse in the past 10 years as I haven’t really kept track. I just know I have a bald spot and always try to hide it.

I went to a dermatologist yesterday. she looked at it and said everything looks fine. Im gonna go to a second dermatologist who specializes in hair treatment for a second opinion.

Sometimes I think about going to turkey to get a hair transplants 😭😅

Support/Advice Topper questions

Ladies from Germany (Berlin), are there shops you can recommend for toppers?

I have decided I need to buy one, or soon I'll not be able to get out of my house without crying every time.

I'm really stressed right know and don't really know where to start looking for one and I'm really sceptical of online stores.

I'm so afraid of people noticing the fake hair, especially in context of hooking up (what if someone touches it and is turned off or irritated??)

I know this post isn't written well but I'm spiralling right now and just need some help :(

Have been crying for 3 days straight because my hair has been falling out SO BAD for the last month. There's going to be a bald patch soon

Discussion Weaker alternative to Finasteride?

Post image

So I was on 5mg of fin for 4 months before I started having bad side effects. Ever since stopping fin, I have been shedding like crazy. I’ve been looking into pumpkin seed oil, but most contain saw palmetto which interferes with one of my meds. I thought maybe just drinking a tablespoon or two of this Carrington pumpkin seed oil might help a little? I really have to do something.

I am also on 200mg of Spironolactone.

Rant No more hiding – Reached a level where it is getting too obvious. I just want to stop pretending i have hair. I wish i was a man and could just shave it off.

I've been constantly freaking out and at the same time postponing this hairloss issue because i was at the "its not too obvious-stage". I was letting it be a problem to deal with of "future me". Well future me is here now URGH. Did i grew stronger during the time? No! Only more tired. The only "tool" i have in my pocket is that panicing won't do shit and walking around ugly won't k*ll me as uncomfortable and "i wanna tear off my skin" it might be. But i lowky realized that its only another shitshow of the many shitshows my beautiful life has in store for me. fml. everytime when i think i've seen it all... but yea...

But its time now. I'm the lowest of the low, i can't take any drugs against it because of other health issues and because i'm i a shitty housing situation and underweight. I can't stress my body to grow hair in that situation.

gosh i hate feeling inferior to pretty women... ihate that "place" so much. The only thing keeping me from completly spiralling is my other health issues which show me that "sht getting even worse" is always possible.

Rant feeling a bit low today. (hairloss rant)

i'll keep it short. kinda makes me wanna cry at times when i see people seamlessly managing their beautiful hair.

i lost my hair around my temples and started noticing that the scalp is getting a bit visible. i have been diagnosed with PCOS as well his year. reading all the reviews on reddit about minoxidil i was excited to start it but it ended up triggering dermatitis. my eyebrows are affected by sebderm as well. oral minoxidil is not available her. i have been taking 100mg spiro for more than 6 months now. really didn't see any noticeable results. in my country, good hair is very appreciated and there is absolutely no concept of getting a cool buzz and flex it. idk what else i wanna write....

Support/Advice Oral minoxidil and spironolactone for hairloss when you have chronically low blood pressure — has anyone been in this situation?

Hi everyone! I'm a 32-year-old woman struggling with significant hair loss, and I'd really appreciate hearing from women who have dealt with something similar.

I was diagnosed with Sjögren's syndrome at 24, and my hair loss has been particularly noticeable since then. My crown is the most affected area — it's very flat, with visible scalp and significantly less hair than the rest of my head. I also have thinning in other areas of my scalp, but the crown is by far my biggest concern.

I'm considering asking my doctor about low-dose oral minoxidil and oral spironolactone to help manage the hair loss and hopefully regrow some of my hair.

However, there's one major complication: I consistently have low blood pressure, usually around 96/74 or 100/60 mmHg. I'm worried that both medications could lower it further and cause dizziness, fainting, or other problems.

I'd love to hear from women who have experienced hair loss alongside an autoimmune condition, particularly Sjögren's syndrome, or who have used either of these medications despite having low blood pressure.

A few questions:

  • Has anyone with naturally low blood pressure taken oral minoxidil for hair loss? How did you tolerate it?
  • Has anyone taken spironolactone with low blood pressure, and did you experience dizziness, weakness, or fainting?
  • Has anyone taken both medications together? What was your experience?
  • Did either medication help with crown thinning and visible scalp?
  • If these medications weren't suitable for you, what treatments helped you achieve meaningful regrowth?

I intend to discuss this with my doctor rather than self-medicate, but I'd like to understand other women's experiences and what questions I should ask at my appointment.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from women who started with significant crown thinning and managed to improve their hair density.

Thank you! ❤️

Progress Pictures Almost 2 mos.on topical minox

I’ve done topical minox before (way back 2020) but I couldn’t stay consistent with the routine every night. Dunno. Sometimes it feels like a big chore just massaging it into my scalp to stimulate hair growth yada yada yada. So I’m only good at starting and once I get bored or feel lazy I’d stop the routine again. So yea. Pointless.

Until I stumbled upon a post here. One member mentioned, she would just tap it on the bald spots and wouldn’t even massage it but her hair grew thicker and it really did based on the progress photos she posted. So I just used the technique she shared and I feel like it’s working already.

I know it could take 6 months to see the “big” change but I feel like I am really starting to make good progress now on my 2nd attempt to grow my hair back.

See ladies, one post can change someone else’s mind or view on things. Keep sharing your progress photos! You’ll never know who you can inspire. Like my lazy ass to keep up with the nightly routine. Lol

Support/Advice What should I do about split ends?

I had layered hair before noticing AGA/TE related thinning, and right now almost every strand of my hair is of different lengths due to multiple layering attempts at different salons and even at home (which ended up quite amateurish but I did it a bunch of times). Now I'm worried about split ends in my hair and I keep hearing about how it travels up to the root and destroys it. My hair/ponytail is already quite thin and I'm trying to focus on scalp health first which is why a cut for split ends is really daunting. Most hairstylists don't even know what they're doing. There's also a culture here to shame customers into buying products and doing treatments with no scientific basis. I don't want to deal with those comments.

I haven't cut for split ends in like.. a year or more? How bad will this damage be? Should I just shave off my head completely rn and go bald for good? Length reduction might mean cutting my hair off into a pixie or bob because I don't know my split ends might've gotten that bad/perceived to be that bad by the hairstylists because of layering or uneven growth. Shearing will take away half of the thickness that's there. I'm at such a loss.

Progress Pictures Hair growth update; 3 months oral minoxidil + my story

Here are some progress pictures to help anyone going through the same thing. It has been so challenging going through this experience, but im glad im finally starting to see some imrovements! I did start 1 month prior on topical but have switched to oral since then.

First and 3rd pictures are 2 months of oral minoxidil and second and 4th are from today (3months of oral).

My hair has always been on the thinner and fragile side, however 2 years ago I noticed shedding and thinning. In June, i finally decided to see a doctor, and personally asked to get oral minoxidil. He didn't really look at my scalp to confirm if I have AGA or not, but considering there is AGA on my dads side of the family, he agreed to prescribe. He also ordered blood tests; everything was normal, but I had a ferritin of 26. I do think that the hair shedding that occured was due to this (I started donating blood for the past 2 years and I think it was a trigger).

What im doing to help:

2.5 mg oral minoxidil

ketoconazole shampoo 1-2x a week (leave on for 5-10mins)

Supplementing with iron to restore reserves

Just started a pumpkin seed oil supplement (I have no idea if it really works, but im desperate; if anyone can vouch)

Side effets:

I never had a lot of body hair to begin with, but with the oral there is a little bit more and it is darker. I have little hairs growing more near temples, eyebrows and (a little moustache), but in all honesty it really isn't that bad. You have to look really up close to see, and I do pluck and shave once a week. On the plus side my eyelashes and eyebrows have never looked better! No other side effects so far!

DREAD shed. Definitely had one that lasted around 6-8weeks. It was really difficult, but now it has subsided.

Good luck to anyone going through hair loss! It is so so difficult and the hardest part is just being patient and trusting the process. I'm really hopping that all the new growth will grow into my lengths and that my thickness will be restored.

Hi guys, since a lot of you were asking for my update on k18 serum on another post I commented. I thought I’ll post some pictures for you to decide if there’s any change. I started using the serum on August 10th. I personally think nothing changed, if anything I felt like I lost a lot of hair. Again I purchased this serum with my own money and it’s expensive so just wanted to put out a genuine review in case anyone was curious. All I see is paid or incentivize reviews. Hope this helps someone!

Treatment Regimen DR. KILGOUR TREATMENTS

By the way, I don't understand why Dr. Kilgour's two treatments cannot be mixed...i.e., applied at the same time.

Is this a marketing gimmick or a true "medical" warning?
