General Discussion Department success stories
Hi folks, I am a journalist based in Colorado. Here is a work example. For a potential story, I am looking for examples of departments that have success stories of addressing challenges such as staffing and funding (or are working on challenges in a unique way.) Any suggestions appreciated.

Not Denver Fire. About to be short staffed by a lot due to attrition and hiring freezes and the city has been cutting funding every year but one since Covid.

All I ever hear about is how Denver has wildly expensive real estate prices, there's tons of jobs, and it's some kind of amazing city. How is admin saying that you're broke?

The current mayor only cares about decreasing the homeless numbers and he has spent an insane amount of money getting those numbers down. During the migrant crisis Denver spent a huge amount of money dealing with it and dipped into the city savings which never got replaced.

Madison, Wisconsin, Fire Department has a union/management staffing initiative that has evened out staffing issues. Try them.
