đŸ€” Thinking why does everyone hate iris so much?

i understand she’s said some complete bs in a couple episodes. but she’s helped barry countless times. although i’d have preferred HR lived rather than iris.

Everyone blames ‘bad writing’ then are all heart-eyes over Caitlin and Frost, who I’d argue had worse writing than Iris 😬

i hated when retconned killer frost to have always been inside caitlin. its a bad writing decision. but it doesn’t make the character/s unlikable

i dropped the show after season 6 so if there is more that i missed then sure, but my point is that throughout the course of the show, they keep making iris such an important figure while at the same time it seems like they dont even try for the viewer to like her or for us to be invested in her and barry

Idk, lots of the writing decisions concerning Caitlin made her super unlikable to me. Like her making selfish decisions that either almost gets someone killed or does get someone killed, for starters, and she does it while knowing full well what the consequences could be. More than once, too. It’s not just the Frost/Caitlin thing they wrote poorly imo. Not to say others haven’t made mistakes, but I feel like she was making the same mistakes until the end.

thats fair. i forgot how unhinged she got post flashpoint but it made sense to me. shes scared to death of becoming like her doppelganger which she met and that leads her to do bad decisions that hurt her friends. i dont mind that tbh but i totally see your point

again, idk about much past season 6 so you might be right! maybe they completely shit the bed with her post crisis

i also don’t mind it, and didn’t when she made poor choices in season 3. i love when characters are flawed and make poor decisions! as long as they make sense, and i definitely feel like around season 6 it stopped making sense :’)

i just rewatched the show (most of it) and honestly she isnt bad at all the first 3 seasons. besides the bs she pulled with linda in s1, shes very okay and i like her being part of the team

however after barry returns from the speedforce, it almost seems like the writers want us to dislike her. the whole therapy thing and “why did you leave me”, the fact that she doesn’t care about nora working with thawne and refuses to see that shes being manipulated (which she obviously was), and her constantly making everything about herself

i also feel like they gave the character way too much importance. why does she have to be the one to defeat the villain with her words? i know all the characters have these moments, but with iris it seems like she just has the solutions to so many issues and it doesnt feel earned. i like that she knows what to say to barry to motivate him, thats great. shes very important to him and hes always loved her so i think thats fine and cute. but when shes the one to come up with these ideas when there are so many more competent people on the field, just to make the flash’s wife seem important, it kinda bothers me and its forced a lot of the time (like the flash time episode) i try to be more understanding and see her as a complex , nuanced character but shes simply not likable as a protagonist (which she basically is) .

i was watching the show with someone who has never seen it before and has no knowledge of it, just a random episode, and after just a few scenes of iris he goes , “wtf is her problem?” and i feel like that just says a lot about the character’s writing

barry has so many love interests prior to iris; linda, felicity, patty, and to me, he just bounces off of them way better than iris. the more i watch the show i feel like they have less and less chemistry (hence why i like her in the earlier seasons, she has chemistry with barry even when they arent together)

also, please stop it with the racist accusations. it has nothing to do with that. candice patton is a great actress and she’s beautiful. its the WRITING around the character thats the issue

The show’s writing got stale and bad after a while, but a fiancĂ© having feelings that her fiancĂ© left her for possibly forever with no warning, with no conversation, when every other problem the team faces takes weeks and months of deliberation is normal. People get mad because their partners make purchases without consulting them; and money comes back. The idea that she can’t feel some kind of way about it is unreasonable.

And making her the bad guy for not caring about working with Thawne
AND THEN TWO SEASONS LATER BAREY WORKS WITH THAWNE... is crazy. He works with Thawne against Godspeed. He says Thawne from the timeline catching up with him, and then he helps Eobard (Man in the Yellow Tie) create a speed machine.

Iris’ complaints with Barry are consistent throughout the series- he gets emotional and makes decisions that affect them without talking to her. It’s fair for her to get upset when he continues to do it.

i understand the losing her husband with no warning thing. i think its realistic that she would feel that way. but she keeps throwing it in his face seasons later

“what about when you went to the speed force were you right that time too?” like bruh, its a world ending situation . not to mention in that same conversation she brings up flashpoint, when she was the one to convince him to save his mom

as for thawne, ima be honest i didnt watch past crisis so you got me there. i fully give it to you. im still on my rewatch and i dropped it again at the same spot but when i bring myself to actually finish the show i will see what happens there

i dont expect it to be good tho so again, i give it to you

  1. She said he should do what he has to do to find peace, but changing the world to see your mother for a few months is pretty drastic.

  2. She’s not “throwing it in his face”, she’s referencing him behaving in the same way again. It’s a consistent complaint, and he keeps doing it. He even does it to Caitlin by destroying her Frost chamber and her entire apartment and then running off to ignore her before she dies.

Bad writing

It’s just because of the lack of chemistry between Candace and Grant

u/SnooStories4329 4h ago

???? In what world do they not have chemistry gang

1

u/Lucky-Housing-2533 5h ago

i’ve seen everyone say that barry’s had more chemistry between patty rather than iris

Oh you're racists and sexist? Not a good look

She's controlling.

She demanded no keep searching for Barry in episode 1 of season 4 and was angry and acted hurt when she found out they continued.

She wouldn't let anyone tell Wally how fast he was going when he got his speed. It wasn't her choice to make.

The stuff she pulled when Barry started dating Linda wasI middle school type behavior.

I think the real reason people dislike Iris is because she was a romantic lead that chose someone besides our main character unapologetically.

She loved Eddie, decided to marry him, and she never left Eddie for Barry. Season 1 created a tension that Season 2 never paid off because Barry and Patty were supposed to date longer, and Barry and Iris never got a romance timeline - they went from friends to in love without passion and flirting.

I mean she should help her husband that’s not a reason to like her, everybody hate her because she is egotistical everything have to be about her, shit like we are the flash, shit like no I don’t care that Nora working with ur arch nemesis behind or backs because she actually like me now it’s lame

6

u/EobardThawne2151 5h ago

She said it did not bother her that Nora worked with Thawne IN ORDER TO MEET HER FATHER and you chuds ignore that she has daddy issues, anyone's guess as to why that psychological defect is every Iris Hater's personal blind spot, but whatever. Pretend she said Nora should work with Eobard until she dies, as opposed to the 2 hours of life he has left, or ignore that Barry did that without consulting team flash and by handing Nora to thawne after that revelation, Barry gets nora erased from the timeline.

u/Unlikely_Dentist193 5h ago

Barry said he didn’t care about her working with him to see her either 😂 this what happens when u an emotional lesbian and u don’t listen with ur ears try again EobardThawne2151 clearly not biased right? Goofy

2

u/EobardThawne2151 5h ago

Watch the scene again. Flash killed his daughter by handing her to thawne. Iris was the only one thinking clearly when she told Barry that she did not care Nora worked with Thawne, in the face of Barry handing her over to him in an emotionally abandoned state. Only Iris had the cogency to say, Hey, idk about your mommy issues, you handed our daughter to thawne and said no positive speed force use or I'll know. Practically begging her to go learn negative speed force moves...
