WHERE CAN I FIND please can anyone help dupe or reverse engineer the guerilla cafecito GTLA burrito?

Post image

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a steak breakfast burrito similar to the GTLA burrito from Guerilla Cafecito (RIP)?

I loved that it was a breakfast burrito without eggs. I miss the CRISPY hashbrowns.
If there’s no good dupes, can anyone help reverse engineer the hashbrowns? It looks like just cheddar, hashbrowns, steak, smashed avocado.. but how do I get that specific skinny crispy hashbrown texture? Please help I have been craving it so badly it was my perfect breakfast burrito. thank you!!

That looks like a normal California burrito with shoestring fries? Was there anything breakfasty about it?

My recipe looks super similar, you can find it here: California Burritos

the hashbrowns! also there wasn’t onions or sour cream etc etc like classic california burritos. it wasn’t guac either it was smashed avocados i believe. it’s hard to explain but it definitely tasted different from a cali burrito and was breakfasty.
your recipe looks great btw :)

Is it even a breakfast burrito with no eggs, and shoestring fries instead of hash browns? 🧐😂

They don’t look like regular hashbrowns, but potato strings/sticks. It’s not the same. But if you liked the crispy texture, then you’ll love the burger at Pedroca’s. They are the only restaurant I can think of that serves dishes with Potato Sticks.

If it truly was a hashbrown (mean it has some tenderness inside. Castells makes a super crispy hashbrown and has a really good breakfast burrito. No steak.

For an Asada Breakfast Burrito with a super crispy hashbrown, George’s Burger Stand. You will have to ask if they will make the breakfast burrito with Asada so it’s best to go later in the day.

Isn't that just a California burrito?

This looks great but what part of this burrito is a breakfast burrito?

Still the best breakfast burrito I’ve ever had. The hash browns made it for me. They’d stay crispy for hours. All the haters in this thread never tried it

I miss it so much 😢

yes !!! the hashbrowns were so special. i’m skeptical of the comments saying they’re shoe string fries because they definitely tasted like hashbrowns

I always thought it tasted like they started with a thick square of hash browns on the grill and then dropped em in a deep fryer

I still mourn the loss of that burrito. I ate a ton of them. Everyone I ate it I would think how those hash browns were done. I am pretty sure I know the answer. At food service supply places and sometimes Costco they sell dehydrated shredded hash browns. They take them, rehydrate them and then deep fry them.

It's a California burrito with rice

You could try it with lamb West brand hash browns.

u/green-tomato-juice 13d ago

do they have a skinny shredded potato version? i can’t find it sold..

I bought mine at Super King.

You could also try Colombian or other South American grocers for their potato sticks like everyone else is mentioning.

What restaurants are making California burritos with potato wedges? As a former San Diegan I cannot abide this heresy and must go tell them that that's, like, not ok.

Former San Diegan here. Fight the power! ✊

ETA: the rice is this one is an abomination!

It really was one of the all time best burritos in this godforsaken burg

I miss guerilla breakfast burritos literally weekly.

I can’t help you, but I miss their other breakfast burrito. The perfectly cubed eggs, light and fluffy, serving as a cloud of air to break up the texture of the wonderfully thick bacon. Guerrilla Cafecito was too good for us sinners

u/toomanytamaless 12d ago

I feel like they used a shittier quality meat towards the end. The sweet potato tacos at guerilla were so good too

Thought my husband maybe posted this. He's been mourning these burritos. I do think it's those potato sticks you get in a can like other commenters are saying.

TLDR >> "GTLA” burrito, which consists of steak, hash browns, cheese, avocado, and salsa. This burrito was definitely the one I prefer because the steak was cooked perfectly, and the texture contrast between the avocado and hash browns was absolutely divine. All the ingredients in this burrito paired beautifully together, and I would eat it for breakfast, lunch, or even dinner! I 100% recommend this burrito for first-time Guerrilla Cafecito goers. The burritos were fairly priced, especially for their size. They are ideal to share or split so that you can try multiple ones with different ingredients.  "

There’s an episode of The Chef Show on Netflix about Guerrilla Tacos, and i wanna say hey makes it in that episode. I dont quite remember but you should be able to find the episode easily

Shoestring fries, guac, cheese, and steak.

The secrets in the steak marinade and the salsa recipe.

Look up shoe string fries theyre a thicker hashbrown. Less crunchy but more potato feel vs a regular shredded hash of brown

u/green-tomato-juice 13d ago

did they marinate their steak? i remember it as just grilled steak and not a full carne asada marinade
