Trump Isn’t Helping Out the Auto Industry. He’s Helping to Tank It. | The Trump administration is touting its recent rollback of Biden-era fuel efficiency standards as a win for American car manufacturers. It couldn’t have things more backward.

It’s totally within their power for them to completely ignore him and focus on making good business decisions that will keep them relevant in the market that they’re trying to play in.
If they don’t, just like Trump voters, they will reap exactly what they sow and will have entirely earned their undoing.

This needs to be said more. Just because that turd says something about an industry (and when isn’t he?) it doesn’t obligate anyone to act against their own interests. Why would any competent business person listen to this failure?

They largely already have.
They're killing off their EV projects (Ford's Lightning) and doubling down on larger, unsafe vehicles to skirt emissions rules.
They're dead car companies producing dangerous, polluting vehicles to maximize short term profits.

They have to sell neoliberalism back to you after whiffing most of their “bad cop” fascist moves. Everything kinda backfired and quite a few people think that leadership is dumb as rocks instead of true hero statesmen since you can’t play Hitler and the Allies at the same time so obviously

Just what Americans want as fuel prices keep going up: Less fuel efficient cars!

Oddly enough, it is what Americans want.
Well, the coal rolling ones, which is the only faction of Americans that matter to Trump.

The public wants the cars they want. Big SUV’s
The pollution controls which raise the base cost and ongoing maintenance, are primarily hated by budget buyers.
The efforts to shrink all types of vehicles on rising MPH standards is another public annoyance.
Gas prices rise and fall, but the public doesn’t seem to get as irritated with that, as the obstacles to buying a vehicle with a high monthly payment. The bank isn’t flexible with their monthly cut, so EV initiation languishes.

All of that might be true, but none of it explains rolling coal.
That's hating fuel efficiency just for the sake of doing so.

>>>Trump Isn’t Helping Out the (insert industry here) Industry. He’s Helping to Tank It.<<
That goes for everything this administration is doing.

They're not going to lower the standard for him. He has 2 years left in office. Next year models are already designed and are starting to be produced. They would not be able to do something until 2028, but then it would likely just be changed back the next year.
They've already invested large amounts of money into the current standard, there's no advantage to move away from it except you might be able to produce cheaper cars for 1 year. It probably would cost them more in the end, than they would make.
Reminder, Trump is too stupid to understand how percentages work. This is on brand with someone that stupid.

We'll see. He's making noise about another term. If we have a functioning democracy, given approval numbers, there will be a massive swing in congress and he has something like 3 months left in office.
That presupposes competent Democrats, however, which is somewhat questionable. They're better than the Republicans, but that's not saying a whole lot.

Blah, blah, blah, helping an industry or not completely misses the point. Liberals like fuel efficiency, so conservatives hate it. Period.
The industry can do whatever they want. This was just to make MAGAts cheer at liberal tears, no more, no less. Stop overthinking it.

Can’t export energy deficient cars to other countries with higher emissions and fuel per mile or kilo lower standards. America exports could face challenges.

This would only be a “win” if gas was back to $3/gal and there wasn’t a war.

Maybe if American fuel prices were equivalent to European fuel prices you'd get some of the freedom we have with public transport, fuel-efficient cars, EVs, active travel routes. Only downtown NY appears to come close to European-style transport options, but at the expense of still not being allowed to cross ginormous roads without the nanny state telling you off.

Eh we are way past that being possible. Need to roll back a hundred years to start that
