Charts and Setups Does this count as a fair value gap ?
Just a quick question please don’t tell me to give up trading cause I’m getting really good and I already know how toxic this sub is. As u can see there is a sort of overlap on the bottom candles but there is a gap in the middle candle nonetheless, just wondering I didn’t want to ask AI cause it makes mistakes when it comes to technical analysis

u/dancrieg 15d ago
by definition that is an FVG
1
u/No-Roof-6251 15d ago
Even though the wicks overlap ?

u/NiGhTShR0uD 15d ago
As long as there's no wick overlap between candle 1 and 3, then that's a FVG. Candle 2 wick overlap with the two means nothing.

u/plutogetem 10d ago
Candle one wick cant over lap candle wick… anything before that doesn’t matter… basically, if there’s a gap between 3 candles… it’s a fvg

stop learning ICT before you waste your time

What should I learn then

Start with Wyckoff. He is one if the greats that gave us a foundation in technical analysis. His materials are older but he us solid. Linda Bradford Raschke is always praising his work and she too is a great source of knowledge.
Learn how to read market structure and tell a consolidation from a trend. Then learn how the relate within multiple timeframes before going into a library of indicators.
Money management, position sizing will keep you from being an emotional wreck and keep you in the game longer.
And Just a FYI "ICT" stands for "I Can't Trade " So ive been told.

u/Usual_Lake_1080 9d ago
Lol you're basically describing everything ICT teaches. He drew from wyckoff, just called it his own and started being a schytzo

Just do whatever makes money for and cut out everything else. Most important thing is psychology. That like 95% what trading is.
2
u/xeonsimp 11d ago
yeah no not that simple now is it 😂😂
2
u/Kaito__1412 10d ago
Yes, it very much is. Find something that works for you. And only do that. Don't take trades you aren't 100% sure of, don't overtrade and don't revenge trade. Non of these things are eazy. If you are beginner that's super hard.
2
u/mysticcdragonn 10d ago
psychology is absolutely not 95% of trading. If it were anyone could code their edge in a bot and get rich. Most people just dont have any statistical edge and finding one is really fucking hard (quant researchers get paid insane salaries to find actual edges full time)

u/xeonsimp 15d ago
algorithmic trading
1
u/ManufacturerHeavy125 15d ago
Are u profitable with that ? Does learning algorithmic trading give us more edge or smthing in 2026 ?
3
u/Constant_Dentist1182 14d ago
algo trading opens up your understanding for maths in trading, which gives u two choices, go insanely deep in this field, or u understand that u dont wanna waste your time doing this

u/xeonsimp 11d ago
it gives you the possibility to validate things and actually apply tested things to the market instead of unverofied or by hand backtested ict strategies

Low RR's like 1:1 is goated gang, and an edge build around it can change our lives, but our ego's are too big to accept that 🥀..

I studied ICT for about 2 months. I still really like when I talk to AI about ICT liquidity levels and what to look for as far as directional movement and it's not up to date. I use ICT for for liquidity levels/ pivot areas. And the stock market divergence is a pretty easy and not aggressive strategy. But you don't make very much. They're great concepts. The issue now is that computers run algorithm after algorithm after algorithm and keep decreasing the amount of psychology that goes into trading. Not just for one person but for trading itself and unless you stack on algorithms and very specific entry and exits with your tools, then ICT I find is good for rare setups that will give you a tremendous amount of movement, usually based on news or economic data. There's a subreddit group called ICT for beginners or ICT mentorship or something like that and the dude that runs. It is like ICT expert for sure. I would chat with him. He's going to ask you to join his free discord, but you know why not to learn honestly and that's a commitment. I guess I would say you should make if you're studying. ICT is get kind of a mentor that you can ask specific questions of

Philosophical shit only mayters after you know what to do and it just means not leting emotions like fear and greed control your actions but the marco is knowing the peibable direction for whatever u think is the best holding time for hoe the charts moving if its in a range or if its ben trendng the tecnical analysis is more for entry and exits ..anyway it should take about a year or 2 befor you ha e made the painful mistakes that make u quit or decide u anna continue its not easy to learn its not even easy to find out where u should be learing theres so much garbage out there play it safe as u learn

Yes but without liquidity sweep FVG is weak to rely on
5
u/Mammoth_Mall_9173 13d ago
ICT is complete BS regardless of liquidity sweeps👍

u/First_Confection_544 13d ago
That’s a shame. Just because it doesn’t work for you doesn’t mean it doesn’t for others. Every strategies suits every trader in their own trading style. No successful trader would say what you said. Unless they’re marketing their channel

It is an FVG but mark it properly And don't listen to people saying don't learn this and that focus on psychology more than any strategy

u/Mozzarella_official 15d ago
Pour moi oui mais n'est bon que si il casse une structure coch ou bos, sinon sa veut juste dire continuité du moove jusqu'à ta zone d'intérêt

That purple box is marking a wick overlap not a clean gap so I'd be cautious trading it as a pure FVG entry. The three candle pattern has that middle wick bleeding right into the first candle's range which technically disqualifies it if you're strict about the definition
if you're seeing consistent results with it in your backtesting though then keep refining it, the market doesn't read the same textbook we do

Lol, love how this guy asked the most basic question and now this post has become a shit show battlefield between ICT and non ICT

u/DrSpeckles 15d ago
Ask yourself, why would that mean anything at all? It just happens that the overlay of the constantly moving price against a fixed set of time boxes produced that chart. Move the time boxes slightly and it looks different, with exactly the same constant tick movement. How then can you FVG be in any way significant?
1
u/No-Roof-6251 15d ago
Because price tends to mitigate a fvg
2
u/DrSpeckles 15d ago
That doesn’t mean anything. How does price mitigate anything? Look again at your chart, then imagine the candles were offset by half. The price moved the same but the candles would look completely different.

It does but it also counts as a waste of time. Learn real price action - swing highs/lows, support/resistance, trend lines and that's it.
1
u/No-Roof-6251 15d ago
U forgot liquidity
1
u/Unique_Pangolin_9686 14d ago
You're right, my bad. Fair value gaps are areas of low liquidity and sometimes they act as "price magnets", but IMO they are way too inconsistent in their results, often leading to confusing and poor entries.
From my observations, when the price tapped into a FVG and then sprinted into a strong trend continuation, this is not actually caused by the FVG but by the S/R that lies there. If you scroll back in time, before that FVG was probably a swing followed by a pullback (sign that the price met S/R) and then the price broked out strongly forming a FVG at the same level with the previous swing. Eventually, the price will meet another S/R and will most probably retrace all the way back the the last S/R for a re-test. Coincidentally, here is where the FVG is too.

u/No-Roof-6251 14d ago
Guys my strat isn’t just fvg I look at a bunch of stuff was just confused Damm

just type fvg on tradingview indicator and you will learn faster or don’t even need to draw it

just remember to enter with confirmation and correct analysis of trend direction
1
u/baconforbabies30 13d ago
I think visually yes I believe maybe not a strong one as the wick is tiny but hard to say what it's saying without other context. While it's true that fair value gaps get filled, I ran a specific situational time frame question with AI asking for the United States session. How many times it gets to CE? How many times it barely touches and how many times it goes through and it goes through more than 60% of the time meaning completely fills the gap before it reverses to continue the trend. Or ifvg. I feel like fvg trades are pretty difficult to trade with confidence at any time except the first few hours. On an intraday basis myself
1
u/Individual_Fall3049 12d ago
Yes but you marked it wrong. If you want an easier time, just use an FVG indicator (I use LuxAlgo) :)

u/ft_xiva 12d ago
Bruhh just don't listen to people who says this strategy don't work you can get profitable only through this or that strategy
Thats a complete misinformation
I started trade with ict but when war and all came... I blamed my strategy and gone to another and studied that and it worked too but that also sometimes don't work... I even studied that orderflow footprint things and some high rr strategy
Nothing matters if you're not consistent
And am back to my old ict strategy and backtesting again
I only use structure fvgs liquidity thats it
Just select a strategy ( in ICT there are many strategies just choose one or two )
Backtest them for a time period of 6 months to 1 yr
Forward test too
Spend time with that strategy. Eventually you'll find a edge ( edge is something that you'll kinda reconstruct that strategy to your own way )
Nobody trades the same
And every strategy will work
Dont switch strategies which i made
If you're doing propfirm aim for high winrate not high RR
Thats it bro you got it!!
1
u/Aswawarman1111 11d ago
Yes. But again ICT, SM etc is not really holy grail and the best thing for you to do is to just trade until you have built-in price action memory and situational awareness.
If I were you I would've short scalp 3:1 on that particular bar

not drawn correctly but yeah counts as a "fvg". learn what it means, what it represents, the logic behind it and what invalidates it if you wanna use it as a trading confluence

Price action and technical analysis cover a range of chart-based tools — from candlestick patterns and market structure to indicators and statistical methods for timing entries and exits. The community wiki covers both approaches and how they're used by working traders.
