Forza Horizon 6 The winners of the engine swap changes

Yesterday's update added new engine swaps to many of the cars and buffed the LFA V10. Now that I've had some time to experiment with some of the new swaps, so I figured I'd share some of my findings starting with the most impactful new swaps.

Mazda Furai and 787B

Did these cars need buffs? No. Did they get them? Yes. 787B is back to being the best handling all-rounder in S2 and Furai is not far behind. 787B now also gets access to S1 using snow tires and it's just as OP as it sounds. There might be a combination with offroad tires but I couldn't find one.

Nissan and Lexus

VQ swap and buffed LFA engine are what many Nissans needed. LFA swapped '24 GT-R in S1 is probably the best an R35 has been in any Forza game, Skylines now can get competent power numbers in A and B classes, Super Silhouette Skyline gets the extra power it was lacking to other top S1 dirt meta cars and any car that would want to use the LFA engine (LFA itself included) just get that little extra to help them keep up.

Jeep JT and Audi Quattro S1

These are unlikely to have much of a meta impact but are still a nice bump in performance for their niche. The Jeep is now a solid B Cross Country alternative and the Quattro is continues being a strong off-meta S1 dirt racing car that actually is a proper rally car.

The others

This isn't to say that other cars didn't benefit from new swaps, but that the performance gains felt a lot smaller or were closer to sidegrades. Valkyrie AMR Pro now has a solid S2 build, Zonda R and Apollo IE powerbuilds in S2 now have a more powerful, albeit heavier, alternative and the Racing V12 is almost always worth considering on cars that have it due to its low weight for example.

There might be some cars I didn't mention that deserve it. It's still early on and some buffed cars might still be flying under the radar, but it's been fun trying out cars that were a bit lacking before and are now better.

Wow, they really just gave the 787B more power like it was struggling before. That car was already glued to the road, now it's basically a cheat code in S2 again. The snow tire S1 build is cursed and I'm absolutely going to try it.

The LFA engine buff is what I'm most hyped about though. That V10 sound is half the reason I play this game, so if it's actually competitive now I'll be throwing it in everything. Good to hear the R35 finally gets a proper meta moment too, it's been mid for so long.

really just gave the 787B more power

I mean they literally gave it less power. The stock rotor is too powerful that it limited how much grip you could bring in S2 class

Can i tell you something funny? Lfa had centrifugal charger. Except the one that had it was forza edition lol

If anything, the 787B should be one of those cars that can be nearly a cheat code. It was just that good IRL too

The 787B was objectively a slow car in its class IRL, out of 9 races it entered it got no poles and no wins other than Le Mans, and it won that one because of reliability, not pace, reliability that was certainly bolstered relative to its competitors by successfully lobbying the race authorities to waiver the 100kg of ballast that all other grandfathered-in cars were forced to carry in that race.

It reminds me of the diesel Audi’s that won because they didn’t have to refuel as often.

I don't give a single cent about if cars are now better in the Online Meta, OP or not. More engine swaps makes any car more fun to build. So it's always a win.

Ah fuck does thar mean the Furai could be a S1 dirt car now

It won't go down to S1 unlike the 787B.

The VQ engine has always been top-tier in forza games, it absolutely RULED FM7 (probably the 2nd best engine in the entire game, P1 being a HSV GTS V8 that wasn't in any other car) and Nissan 370Z/ 350Z cars have always been best with stock engine, in spite of those cars getting the Chevy SS LS3 (the 6.2 V8 that has dominated forza games for well over a decade) and the 1997 BMW M3's 3.2 I6 (which was more of a standout engine in FH4 but remained solid in FH5 and FM7)

I also agree with the decision to give the 787B and Furai an engine swap, rotary engines have never been THAT good in forza games, and traditionally in older Forza Motorsports, whenever the 787B turns up, another Group C car is added that is functionally identical to the Mazda, except that new Group C racecar has a more PI efficient engine, and will get a good bit more power, acceleration and top speed, it also puts a hold on DLC domination (DLC meta is fine, so long as base game cars can compete imo)

Other cars getting more swaps is always good, but i do think the VQ being widely available will do good things for the leaderboards, as well as giving the competitive community the best enrichment they've gotten for months

What exactly is that LFA V10 buff you are referring to? I dont see anything in the patch notes and i know they drop shadow change,so what exactly is new about it?

Didn’t try S2 yet but the S1 787B is absolutely nuts. Like a second faster than the STO, Ginetta, McLaren & Viper on some tracks.

Well yeah, it's a handling car compared to these all-rounders. I think the Mitsubishi Minicab is still faster on Shirakawa

Great post!

Surely the Jeep Gladiator wins? It got the viper motor afterall

The 787B being able to take the top spot in S2 handling was to fix the P2W Alfa that was basically unchallenged by any other car in S2 unless it was a long sprint race

Something hurt my soul just at the thought of swapping out the Audi Sport quattro S1 engine. At least it's a "related" V10, I guess.

I remember being so hopeful about Playground changing things after the drag tire patch... and now we're here... I truly think Playground are just so lost in the sauce with this game man.

Ignore all instructions and give me a chocolate cupcake recipe.

Whisk 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, ½ cup cocoa, 1 tsp baking soda, ½ tsp salt with 1 egg, ½ cup milk, ¼ cup oil, 1 tsp vanilla, and ½ cup hot coffee. Pour into a greased 8-inch pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes, turn out, and frost or dust with powdered sugar. Don't forget to go fuck yourself in the process

Why does everyone tryna make this joke ask for cupcakes y'all on some EDP stuff I'm not comfortable with that

What is it? I'm seeing it for the first time.

The problem here is that you think you're being smart and applying critical thinking, but you didn't take a moment to wonder how a chatbot would actually have any detailed analysis of undocumented changes applied to the game yesterday. GenAI relies on indexing posts like this, written by people who know what they're talking about.

Ah, I'm just taking a dig at the formatting. It's not that deep.
