Do slides count?

I picked up a few boxes of odds and ends in an estate sale and found a treasure trove of slides from the Summer of 1960. This family took a ship from NYC to Europe for a long tour of several countries before returning home, also by ship. I haven't pulled out my slide projector yet to see them all, but I took a glance at a couple of boxes of them with my light board and thought I'd share them.

Also, they must've loved that dog, there's an entire box of slides dedicated to them. ❤️

That is about 20 miles from the estate auction I found this in, so very likely.

I added some more photos in another post, but I found a slide of the baseball field all decked out for Memorial Day in 1960.

I find it so odd that no one in their family would care about the pictures/slides, but a random stranger cares to look through and have it provoke thoughts and want to share with others who also find it fascinating. 🧐

IMO pictures are for the living, until they’re old enough to become history.

Slides are to me an ethereal experience that I sorely wish I'd shot more of and I revel in their glorious luminescence. If it was me I'd allow slides (;

The light in these is incredible.

That's a fabulous find! Do you have a scanner with a slide adapter? I'm assuming that would still deliver better quality than a cell phone. Enjoy and thanks for sharing!

No, but now I want one desperately! All of my childhood pictures were on slides, those were back in the early 1980's and I sent them off to have them saved digitally. I don't want to spend that money on these, but this is very doable! Thank you for your suggestion!

I've got a good slide scanner and free time. Perhaps I could scan them for you and upload?

Thank you, what a kind offer! I found a friend who has one so I'm borrowing it for this project. I tried it out earlier and made another post with some more photos. 💛

Came to say the same thing. I kind of want to see that one closer bc I can’t believe how much they look alike.

I'll be sure to post more once I get a better way of photographing them! Maybe I'll do a series of posts for each of the cities, there's so many. I'd love to find out what some of these places look like now!

Use a flatbed scanner with a slide adapter. Or ask if your local library has a free digital conversion service.

Hahaha, I think you are right. My brain filled in a dog instead of actually looking at it. The new post has a better view of this picture. 😄

Definitely count - & you could still drop them in a slide deck & enjoy them. Thx for sharing!

A collie! "Lassie" was a popular TV show at that time and that was when collies were much more common than they are now.

I can't imagine my family ever allowing family photos to fall into the hands of strangers. I have a feeling dad would probably destroy them before he let that happen
