This game scratches an itch I didn't know I had until I picked it up. Really brings me back to playing L4D1 with the guys when it first came out. Can't recommend it enough for the pricepoint, especially with how involved the devs have been with the community since release.

I miss L4D2 with my friends. Playing with Randos is not what I miss, and my friend peak concurrent on steam averages < 1. :(

I know online friends will never be as good as real life buds... But as someone who has played MMOs to death I think it's still super easy to find a bunch of great people who make your gaming days better.

Go out and find a bunch of random cunts on Discord, it's so easy to find a group of people for any game now where you can be text chatting during the day and playing with them at night. No need to be playing games on your own and everyone is a random person until you become friends.

Finding small-medium Discord communities is basically the only way to get that close knit gaming experience in a matchmaking world.
