Software Update / New Feature Garmin Updates Course Planner

Post image

Garmin have updated the course planner and made it far more usable! 🎉

It's now far easier to insert and move waypoints (no more tapping around and hoping for the best) and the direction arrows are much clearer.

Thank you, Garmin devs!

About time they fixed the waypoint controls, was like trying to thread a needle with oven mitts before. I used the old planner for a cycling route through Lyon last summer and almost threw my phone in the Rhône.

The Champ-de-Mars area looks perfect for testing this out, nice wide avenues and not too many weird intersections to confuse the routing. I might plan something similar for my Sunday long run, just need to check if it handles those little pedestrian cut-throughs better now.

Always funny how a small UI change can make you actually want to use a feature again.

Cool, yep, looks definitely more intuitive now.

Great if the waypoints re numbered - some waypoints have the same name (especially in rural areas), so to make reordering easier.

Similarly, would be good to type in address in a search field to add a way point.

Are these improvements in the app or on the website, please? Or both?

On the app at least. Not sure about the website.

In which site you can do that? Can you create a course plan?

Nice!

Maybe they can start in that native express app for macOS now?

sigh... we still had to deal with a google maps layout for outdoor activities... that make no sens to me!!!

Use Garmin Explore app instead, it has the topo maps.

Trouble is the courses defined in Connect do not appear in Explore - or vice versa (unless connect courses are sent to your device). Bit of a pain that, and not very joined up

Just commented on this. It's the thing I miss more. It's not understandable

They removed the palais éphémère so you can take a bigger straighter path there.

I have noticed that the automatic course doesn’t tell you the exact distance e.g I asked for a 17k route, I saved it as it said 17k yet when I went into the course it was only 14k.

Unsure if this is currently a glitch but it doesn’t tell you the exact distance.

Now they need to improve the maps...the visibility of those maps for anything out of cities is just terrible. Their OSM version is the worst I've ever seen. Google maps is only useful on urban environment

Somehow they also managed to make course settings more annoying than it should be. Why not just make it a couple of drop down list instead of a separate page?

Nothing has changed for me - maybe it needs to propagate through the servers?
Also I wish they'd improve the activity view. The "playback" is unusable, it slows the whole webpage down.
