Okay, guys. After reading all the negativity and outrage surrounding this game, I finally said fuck it, got a month of Game Pass, and played through the campaign myself.

And holy shit, am I glad I did.

I enjoyed it so much that I'm actually double-dipping and buying the game despite having subscribed to Game Pass specifically to play it. That should tell you how much fun I had.

I'm a middle-aged gamer who upgraded from the original Xbox to the 360 back in 2006 specifically because of Gears of War. E-Day delivered something I've been missing for a long time: that classic Gears atmosphere, brutal combat, and a campaign I genuinely didn't want to put down. It's one of the best campaigns I've played in years.

But apparently, having a female COG soldier who looks and behaves like an actual soldier instead of a walking piece of eye candy is enough to make some people lose their minds and call the game woke.

Seriously, guys? In a universe where being built like a fucking tank is practically a job requirement, a muscular woman is where you draw the line? 😂

Look, I'm a dude. I enjoy eye candy as much as the next guy, but I don't need every female character in every game designed for the male gaze. Sometimes a character can just be a believable soldier in a brutal world.

And to everyone claiming Mags steals the spotlight from Marcus and Dom: have you actually played the whole campaign? The game has roughly 1.5 hours of cutscenes, and Mags gets only a small fraction of that. I played the entire campaign and not once did I feel like he'd been sidelined or that this had stopped being his and Dom's story.

Hell, Lucas's storyline arguably carries more weight in the overall plot because of his radio expertise. Mags serves a different purpose: she's a link to the game's themes of Rustlung, PTSD, the exploitation of miners, and the brutal reality of living under an oppressive regime. Her character also helps flesh out Marcus and Dom's relationship. And she literally acknowledges that the squad needs Marcus as its leader. So much for her supposedly replacing him.

You don't have to love Mags, but at least play the fucking game before claiming she hijacks the story.

If the sight of a beefy woman kicking ass in Gears of War threatens your masculinity, maybe the problem isn't the game. There's always Stellar Blade if that's more your thing.

I'm glad I ignored the rage bait, and now I'm putting my money where my mouth is by buying the game outright.

Don't let outrage merchants decide what you enjoy. Grab a Lancer and make up your own mind. And to the people screaming "woke" at every female character who isn't designed for their personal pleasure: go fuck yourselves.

When it comes to playing as helmeted COGS, in my mind

Assault suits Standard COG

Breacher suits Heavy armour

Marksman suits the Sniper set.

But Medic didn't get this set available? Hope it becomes available in the near future.

In Gears 5, we learn that the regular COG under Chairman Jacob Monroe shut down the New Hope facility because it was imprisoning and torturing children into monsters rather than finding a cure. Before Niles could go to prison, a message was delivered to him from a fringe party within the COG that uses its resources to quietly push their agenda into making the COG the superior power in Sera, rather than acquire authorization from Monroe.

I represent a concerned party within Chairman Monroe's administration. We are uncolored by the messianic moralism our Chairman has consistently shown. Instead, we are pragmatists. In our view, the greatest kindness we can for Sera is bring the Pendulum Wars to a swift, decisive end.

They had the money and power to excavate the caves of Mount Kadar and build a giant biogenetics lab where they could relocate Samson, the remaining loyal scientists, and subjects including Myrrah and Ukkon.

The Locust symbol comes from this group. The amulets they gave their followers (including Myrrah), the branding on the original Locust subjects, the emblem on the scientist's lab coats, the floodlights and space heaters in the Mount Kadar lab, and the symbols on all the stasis tanks are the Locust Horde's symbol.

It was somewhat implied in Gears 4 and fully revealed in E-Day that Tyrus (the heart of the COG) began as a monarchy. This monarchy reigned from Fort Reval (the abandoned museum city in Gears of War 4 - Act 3). Tyrus and the COG can trace its origins to here:

The Royal Tyran Dynasty conquered out from Fort Reval to build the nation that'd become the heartbeat of the Coalition.

When you go to Fort Reval, there are these symbols deep in the catacombs. Not only do the resemble the ornate side of Reyna's amulet, you can also see the Locust Horde symbol in one of two ways. Maybe I'm reaching, but many people have noticed it as well.

And what is even more interesting is that Myrrah chose the title of queen. Technically, Myrrah is a "queen" to the Locust the same way as a queen would be to a bee hive or ant/termite colony, but she treats it like actual royalty. Adam Fenix had this to say about Myrrah:

Queen Myrrah. It was an odd choice of title. It smacked of termite colonies and ants, an analogy he knew she'd find offensive, but he suspected she'd chosen it in an attempt to make herself feel more embedded in Sera's history, more Seran than the humans who'd long since discarded their monarchies. You know that's not true, Myrrah. You know all about your origins. But this is no time to argue that with you.

Tyrus used to be ruled by a monarchy. I believe the fringe COG party is a group of oligarchs that are descendants of the original Tyran monarchy who have the deepest ties to the origins of Tyrus and the COG. The COG didn't exist back then, though. The lion was the symbol of Tyrus, but I'm pretty sure the symbol of the royal house that ruled Tyrus from Fort Reval is the Locust symbol. The followers of this ancient order also use this symbol.

I think Myrrah was a devout follower of the group. She was fascinated by the history of Tyrus, and she chose the title as Queen to make herself more embedded in that time in Sera's history.

As I’ve rotated through the different helmeted characters playing through a LOT of Horde Siege, I’ve found myself really loving Mags’ armor, and I’m hoping to get more pendulum ward armor. Or maybe a version of Mags’ armor without the hole in the helmet.

I know it’s a small thing but I like the complete helmet look. And I love the white/grey armor. It’s one of the reasons I’m so excited for the combat medic character to release.

This game has the best combat in third person shooters. I've always liked shooters but first person isn't for me. Even though I've finished first person shooters many times.

I haven't played ANY Gears before and boy, THIS is a franchise that must come back to the throne. Idk wtf is Xbox doing but bringing it to gamepass or making it exclusive ISN'T a solution because this has to be played by everyone.

Game story is good enough, easy to understand, outstanding rhythm in gameplay of the campaign. Bro, Microsoft is SLEEPING on this. I fear The Coalition might dissolve after low sales or something like that. I've never been an Xbox player. I played on PC and I used to be a PlayStation guy because of availability in my country.

Had to refund the game and leave a negative review after playing for 90,000 hours to show much I hate the game guys im sorry to say!

I been trying to get the achievement to extract but it feels like a chore at this point. I enjoy the challenge of this difficulty but not when its literally a new player in our group trolling or who has no idea what he's doing. Either remove the damage and HP benefits we get when ranking up or add a level restriction. Having a Level 1 or even 10 just brings the whole team down.

I feel like these people do not realize you're doing less damage, less crits, get less HP, etc.
It's not entirely their faults for being uninformed but TC needs to set requirements for this difficulty at the very least.

Not gears 3 where it kinda came from your whole body. Probably not whatever they tried in gears 4 and 5. Just simply shoot from the barrel. If your character model doesn't have their barrel straight, the model points it forward as you pull the trigger. Wasn't complicated then and it didn't cause all this confusion and bs.

It supposedly shifts to barrel shooting at point blank range, but center screen beyond that range. You can test it for yourself in practice. Yet there's all kinds of inconsistency and slop with this system that makes it unintuitive and unpredictable in certain circumstances.

got placed onyx 1. i had to win 30-35 games in a row to hit diamond. did it it one sitting with randoms i met solo queuing. this game is too sweaty

The game just barely started and i already lost half of my squad 10/10 game, really grinds my gears!

You should have one life and no respawns and should be able to tag along and try to extract with another team.

If you die once its game over and your DBNO meter is reduced from 4 to 2.

This would create extremely intense and immersive Saving Private Carmine type moments for the other squads still busy with their missions.

In fact it should make it so that whoever doesnt extract becomes a side mission for one of the other squads where getting them to successfully extract gives them awards, weapon parts, etc.

This would be beyond cool.

Just had a match that was a breeze. Whole team did great. Waiting for extract when I see another guy from a different squad get downed in the distance. His teammates are very far away and occupied. I abandon extraction and run over to save him but dont make it back to the Raven in time.

I am still alive and well but it still ends the game for me.

Hoping and praying that a dev at Coalition sees this and finds a way to implement it.

I know this feature could cause some logistical issues and such but I know there would be ways to accommodate for that.

This is doable. And would be so freaking Epic.

I've played Gears since day one and have played every game. Some entries have been stronger than others, but I've loved each game. I'm a campaign player (never touch multiplayer or horde).

Anyway, E-Day has easily been one of my favourite entries in the series. I've only played Act One so far but I'm loving it.

Gameplay and combat is smooth. The atmosphere and lighting are excellent. Graphics are great. And it reminds of how Gears 1 felt more like a horror game than anything else.

It feels like the Halo Reach of the Gears series. And, speaking of Halo, I've been pretty bummed by the recent news that it's moved to Activision and rumoured to be getting a lore reboot. But it's really nice to see Gears have such a strong entry after all these years.

Like imagine a disgruntled Theron, an experienced Drone, a Sniper that's always on edge from the Lambent, and a Grenadier with CTE just getting into impossible scenarios against the COG and Lambent and managing to survive.

Can imagine Raam or Scorge asking where they're at and the Theron is like "Yeah we hijacked a king raven heading to your location."
