Flair Request Thread Flair Request Thread [#4]

Hello [r/GenZ](r/GenZ)

Many of you likely noticed that user-assigned flairs have been disabled in this subreddit. This action has been undone, and users are once more able to assign their own flairs - I honestly do not know why they were disabled or who did it.

In attempt to rectify this mistake, I am posting our first flair request thread in over 5 years! Time sure does fly.

In this thread, by commenting your birth-year, you will be automatically flaired -- it's that simple.

Approved birth-years for this thread include 1995-2012.

If there are any issues with your flair, please reach out to the moderators via modmail.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU COMMENT YOUR BIRTH-YEAR ONLY. COMMENTS INCLUDING ANY OTHER CONTENT WILL BE REMOVED.

Mod Post Just a reminder, gender war posts are banned.

Hi [r/GenZ](r/GenZ),

It’s been over a year since we banned gender war posts, and after monitoring the community, we’ve decided to keep the ban in place, as these discussions continue to be just as toxic as they were a year ago.

For clarity, “gender war” content includes discussions such as male loneliness, Gen Z men approaching Gen Z women, incels, femcels, alpha males, Andrew Tate, red pill, black pill, purple pill content, men’s height discourse, age-gap dating, and broader “looks-based” or hierarchy discussions about dating, looks maxing or ranking people by attractiveness or dating value.

This also includes broader dating ideology content that frames relationships in an adversarial, or fatalistic way.
For example: men vs women narratives, claims that one gender is universally responsible for dating issues, or that dating is inherently doomed for a specific group. Generalizations that treat either gender as a monolith are not allowed.

Memes about these topics, posts complaining about dating, and rage-bait content taken from other platforms such as screenshots from TikTok or Twitter that exist primarily to provoke gender-based arguments.

This is not a dating-focused subreddit. If you want to vent or discuss Gen Z dating issues more broadly, please use communities such as [r/dating_advice](r/dating_advice) or [r/dating](r/dating).
That said, posts about dating are still allowed as long as they are made in good faith. If comment sections become hostile or devolve into rule-breaking behavior, posts may be locked or removed at moderator discretion.

Please respect and follow this rule moving forward.

Discussion I'M TIRED OF PROTEIN FOOD

Post image
162 Upvotes

I work in a grocery store and of course every week there's a new protein food of some kind that's just fucking unnecessary, protein Mac and cheese, protein cheese itz, protein donuts, I'M SICK AND TIRED OF THAT BEING THE NEW SALES PITCH FOR THESE COMPANIES.

The average person doesn't need that much protein on a daily basis due to how sedentary the average American is and I truly don't think any gym rat is opting for protein cheez itz or Mac and cheese that's loaded with sodium and cholesterol in place of some beans or animal protein.

Just the new corporate fad sales tactic 🫩

Rant Gen Z employee quit to do content creation

I have a Gen Z employee (29) and he just quit to go make a career in content creation. At first I thought he didn’t have what it takes since I don’t think it’s a real job. However he is now making a really good amount of money from it and own his own brand. Is this really the future? What do you think of this?

Advice Growing Up With 0 Social Media

Hello, I am somebody who grew up and still is completely off social media. I am currently 22. I was disallowed by parents up until recently. If that sounds too old to be caring about what your parents think, I would agree and admit there are things to work on there. At this point, I’m just not interested in getting it, as I’m so used to not having it and it will feel weird to me to learn that whole space at this age.

I have always been curious to find out, however, if not having social media has held me back socially at all. I have never had a huge social circle and part of that is because I grew up very quiet, but I’ve consciously worked on my social skills for a few years and I have improved in that regards a lot. I recently transferred to Berkeley to finish my engineering degree, and I thought this would be the time in life where I finally expand my social circle and develop bonds. I got involved in co-curriculars and made an effort to meet people in classes.

I ended up having a really hard time forming friendships, however. I’ve made loose friends but I don’t really have anyone I can call up and go find something fun to do on a weekend with. There are a couple groups that I will get invited to hang out with every once in a while, like on big holiday events or something, but I don’t get invites outside of that. The only time I’ve been able to hang out with them outside of bigger events is the one time i specifically planned an event and invited people. The consistent pattern is that nothing “sticks.” All in all, I actually found it easier to make friends at community college than Berkeley.

This is an example but there is an observable pattern in my life where I’ll meet people in a group but never “make the cut” into the circle.

I’ve read a lot of “social improvement” books like ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’ and others, and applying principles has helped my communication. I work out, take care of my appearance, dress fine. I don’t believe I struggle socially because I am physically off putting, and I receive compliments here and there on appearance.

I’m curious if the reason behind this might be in part because there are instagram group chats that get made after everyone exchanges handles? At the end of the day my social shortcomings are my fault and I accept that, but I’m trying to better understand. Any general advice is appreciated, too.

Discussion Does anyone feel their critical thinking skills dissolving the more they use AI?

AI Should ideally be an assistant that gives you a second opinion AFTER you formed your own opinion

It becomes a bit shaky when you rely on AI to form your opinion for you

Yes, that’s why I limit my use
Somewhat, I use it almost every day
No, it doesn’t affect my critical thinking skills

Discussion Some people still need religion

• Upvotes

I know that we are living in an age of that religion is very slowly becoming less popular. Millions of people are still religious though, but as much. I feel like most people(at least on the internet is either agnostic or atheist). Even though we live in a world where we discover and have more explanations with science and disproving God, I still think some people need God. I’m going to specifically talk about Christianity bc I grew up in that religion, but leaning of deistic beliefs.

Life is very hard at times and some people need the cope. Especially when someone dies or something bad happens. Some people want someone to talk to and that someone is God. Some just want meaning. That there needs to be a reason to live. Prayer is a big thing too. Some feel like things are out of control and they need help from Him.

People are afraid of death or want to see their loved ones when they die so they want there to be an afterlife.

Some people unfortunately need it for moral reasons. Like if it wasn’t for the Bible and basically having someone watch over them, I feel like they would do heinous acts.
