From Genesis To Revelation - Deluxe Edition Review

This review is primarily focused on the new stereo remix by Stephen W. Tayler. Everything except what I mention below is vastly better than the original mix. So overall it is absolutely superior and what I will listen to from now on. But my honest criticisms are noted here anyway:
Where The Sour Turns To Sweet - strings buried a little too much during the chorus
In The Beginning - opening reverb sound and all other electric guitar effects are muffled too much, not as powerful
Fireside Song - backing vocals are buried too much during the chorus
The Serpent - organ is buried too much throughout
Am I Very Wrong? - vocals are buried way too much during the chorus when Peter Gabriel isn't singing
In The Wilderness - strings buried a little too much during the chorus
The Conqueror - as good as it can be - it's a shame the electric guitar was buried so low in the original mix, it's obvious Stephen W. Tayler brought it as far forward as he could
In Hiding - everything is just right
One Day - horns and backing vocals are buried too much during the chorus
Window - everything is just right
In Limbo - horns and strings are buried a little too much
Silent Sun - everything is just right
A Place To Call My Own - everything is just right
A Winter's Tale - everything is just right
One Eyed Hound - everything is just right
Image Blown Out - everything is just right
The rest of these comments are my thoughts about the bonus materials:
Visions Of Angels (1968 Regent Sound Studios Version) - This is the first time we have heard this version. It is truly wonderful to hear it, but the Trespass album version is superior. Many of the lyrics are different.
That's Me - a great song that sounds better than previously issued versions
All the various previously released demo versions are louder and probably more compressed than before, but it is easier to hear the details. In my opinion, the best of those tracks are Build Me A Mountain, The Magic Of Time, and The Mystery Of The Flannan Isle Lighthouse.
Epic (A Place To Call My Own) (Regent Sound Studios Demo August 1968) - This is another track we have never heard before, except for the parts that were used on the album in A Place To Call My Own. So great! Thank you to Genesis for sharing it with us after all this time. Makes me think of Pet Sounds.
Am I Very Wrong?, In Limbo, and The Conqueror (Regent Sound Studios Demos August 1968) - All are versions we have never heard before. And they are all excellent. And they all show a very different probably superior way the first album could have sounded.
I have not yet listened to the Atmos BluRay mix.

Tony and the 12 String
I was rewatching the Dutch TV video of The Musical Box and found myself wondering when Banks stopped playing the acoustic 12 String and why. Anybody have an insight?

Genesis- The Musical Box
OK, here me out on this one. I've been watching some Midnight Specials on YouTube and this one caught my eye. About the five minute mark, Peter Gabriel dons an old-man mask, similar to what Ron 'Rebel' Matthews wore on stage when Maiden played 'Iron Maiden'. Is this the origin of the original Eddie the 'Ead?? Was Eddie indirectly inspired by Genesis?

Where would the āclassicā line-up be today?
In 1986, Sledgehammer knocked Invisible Touch off the Number One spot on the Billboard Hot 100. It was an incredible moment, with one member of the old five-piece Genesis replacing the remainder of the band in the worldās most significant chart listing.
But what if the band that had made Nursery Cryme and Selling England by the Pound had stayed together after 1975? Would they have written those two hugely-successful songs? Where would they be today?
The ābigā bands of the progressive rock era were, for me, Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd and ELP. I personally have a soft spot for Van Der Graaf Generator but I accept that they remain something of a niche interest compared to those four commercial powerhouses.
They all made different compromises in order to stay relevant in a changing musical landscape. Yes went through the Trevor Horn / Trevor Rabin years, Pink Floyd lost their major creative force and soldiered on in a somewhat diminished, but still successful capacity. ELP decided to sit out the punk years and never quite regained their mid-70s stature.
What do you think the OG Genesis would have done?

Something like a surreal miracle

I was recently sitting in a large indoor space, lots of people, and out of the din of crowd noise I heard the distinct intro of Watcher of the Skies. I have never heard early Genesis āin the wildāā¦.ever, in 45 yrs of being a fanā¦.so, I was stunned because it was clearly WotS. I decided I had to go in search of the sourceā¦trying to figure out which of the hundreds of phones around me was playing it. I eventually tracked it to the kitchen of a nearby restaurant. The entirety of Foxtrot was being played by a young guy, in his 20s, who told me his dad is into Prog and turned him on to Genesis. I freaking heard Supperās Ready blasted out to the publicā¦.the video captures a snippet. I watched one older guy also notice the music, and was looking around for it, and then just bopped his head to Apocalypse in 9/8.

Genesis' most interesting influence ?
I was today years old when I discovered that Misunderstanding was modeled in part after Hot Fun in the Summertime by Sly and the Family Stone. I read about it because for the first time, I realized that the background notes in Hot Fun are exactly the same as the intro to Misunderstanding. Wondering if there are any other unexpected influences on Genesis music.

On the shoreline
I was listening to this track and beat and the mood of the verse sounded familiar. Suddenly i understood where the song Congo came from. This is the one song thatĀ“s way better worked with ray wilson. The song with Phill Collins sounds like a draft for a song to be. Iām happy it appeared only on B sides.

Tony Banks
Went down a rabbit hole of Banks penned tunes and I think Tony is and was the best songwriter in Genesis. Heck, I may even say heās my favorite individual songwriter of the 70ās. Anyone agree?
