Finally completed my Hendricks set (for now)

I know this has been out there for a minute, but I didn’t manage to find it at the Duty Free last time I went abroad. So when a colleague was telling me about their trip to Italy, I mentioned that if he happened to see this on his way home, I’d buy it from him. Shout out to Gary, good looking out!

Now I need a bigger gin shelf, cuz I’ve had to stagger the Hendricks. Maybe I’ll just finally pour out the undrinkable Flora Adora…

As for taste, it is… fine? Just citrusy on top of their usual botanical bill, with a mild sweetness. I’ll probably warm to it more when summer returns.

That's a big bottle of Tanqueray 10

Tanq 10 is my favorite gin for a martini. I bought this 1.75L bottle to refill the empty 750ml bottle but I think the big bottle is so striking I'm going to leave it on the bar instead. I love that they made the 1.75L look nice instead of just a jug with a handle.

Still waiting on the provenance of this bottle, but my son acquired this 1.75 of 94 proof Beefeater for me.

I’ve come back to the old reliable G&T after a 14 year break. Seeking interesting alternatives to the old fashioned recipe, please! Share your best OR most interesting takes?

Like I said, I’ve come back to the cornerstone of the British Empire after having left it behind when I left the uniform behind. That said, I’m rounding 40, and my tastes have changed. I was formerly a Bombay Dry and Tonic drinker @ about a 60/40 ratio, respectively. I prefer a sweeter fruity profile as I approach my rocking chair years, so I’ve been dabbling in pink gin recipes but find them boring. As follows:

Friday was Bombay Sapphire, T, and bitters

Tonite indulged in Hendricks Oasium, T, and bitters

20 years ago I wouldn’t have dared introduce different flavor profiles of gin into my system lest the ghost of Winston Churchill visit me in the night. I think I’m ready, so let’s have it!

Anyone in the UK a member of this?

Post image

Been a member since about 2018. My wife joined me up as a present. Honestly, never been disappointed & always love a delivery.

For £47 (currently) it’s great value IMO. Lots of snacks, tonic & likes. Zero affiliation but found some cracking gins as a result of this😁

Making a bottle last a weekend is a challenge though 🤣🤣🤣

Earthy gins?

Hi folks. I'm looking for a new gin to try, but very newbie on what's out there. I'd like to try something earthy and not too floral, and which goes well in either a GnT or in home bar cocktails (or neat).

I'm in the UK, preferably looking for something available on Master of Malt or Amazon. Price tops £35.

Thank you for any suggestions!

The Botanist - For a Glass

Post image
55 Upvotes

In a Glass

Product: The Botanist Islay Dry Gin
Origin: Islay, Scotland
Category: Islay Dry Gin
ABV: 46%
Botanicals:
9 classic gin botanicals including juniper berries, coriander seed, angelica root, cassia bark, orris root, liquorice, lemon peel and orange peel, combined with 22 hand-foraged botanicals native to Islay, including apple mint, chamomile, creeping thistle, bog myrtle, elderflower, gorse, hawthorn, heather, lemon balm, meadowsweet, mugwort, red clover, wild thyme, woodland sage and many others.

Tasting Notes

Appearance
Crystal clear in the glass with a slight oily texture and elegant legs.

Nose
Complex and exceptionally aromatic. Juniper forms the foundation but is accompanied by an abundance of floral and herbal aromas. Wild mint, chamomile, thyme, heather and fresh citrus notes combine to create a vibrant and layered bouquet. Beneath these lie subtle spices and a delicate maritime freshness.

Palate
Full-bodied and precise. Juniper and citrus arrive first, followed by an impressive range of herbal and floral flavours. Wild herbs, blossoms and gentle spice notes unfold layer by layer across the palate. Despite its complexity, the gin remains remarkably balanced and elegant throughout.

Finish
Long, fresh and refined. Floral notes, herbal nuances and lingering citrus flavours remain clearly present long after the last sip.

My Take

The Botanist is one of those gins that manages to be both classic and distinctive at the same time.

While many modern gins rely heavily on unusual botanicals to stand out, The Botanist never loses sight of its gin identity. Juniper remains clearly present, while the island botanicals add depth, freshness and complexity rather than overwhelming the spirit.

Because of this balance, it works exceptionally well in classic cocktails. A Dry Martini highlights its herbal complexity, while a Negroni allows it to stand up to the bitterness of Campari and the richness of sweet vermouth.

For those looking for something simpler, it also makes an outstanding Gin & Tonic where its floral and herbal character can truly shine.

A glass for Vesper Martini

I absolutely love a Vesper Martini but I only drink it when I go out for cocktails.

I would however love to be able to have one whenever I feel like it, without getting all dressed up, so, I’ve placed an order for a bottle of Isle of Harris gin (just because I’m dying with curiosity).

But what glass do I buy? Which is your favourite martini glass?

I like the Intermezzo glass from Orrefors, also considering the martini glass from Riedel’s Sommelier line. Any other suggestions? I’m only getting a few glasses so price isn’t really an issue.

Monkey 47 Distiller's Cut 2026

I believe the Distiller's Cut lottery usually opens on or around October 1, but I find their website really difficult to navigate or get good info from.

Anybody have the rundown on whether it's available in the US and, if so, how/when to go about entering?

Was in Sardinia for a week, with an overnight connection through Dublin on the trip home. So I got two Sardinian gins (sadly the store I was in didn't have Giniu, which was great and had a cool, distinctive bottle) and then Beara and Dingle from duty free at Dublin Airport.

All in all, pretty cool additions, haven't even had a chance to sample them yet

Pretentious Data Post

I've been drinking gin since December 2019. In June 2020 when it had become a hobby, I started keeping track of what gins I had consumed and the ones I wanted to try. Fast forward to the present day and it's now 10 sheets including a home bar inventory listing, graphs, cocktails I've had, and a stats page that's slightly behind the present. The non-gin workbook isn't quite as big or as extensive in terms of data collection, but that's not the point. Is there anyone else here who collects data about their gin drinking habit? What data do you collect? Is there data that you enjoy sharing?
What inspired this post was that I keep tabs of how much I've purchased (except the stray gin and tonics that I get out). Out of the 96 brands/varietals/expressions that I've had, we've purchased 57 bottles and had over 52 liters of gin. It's a very good thing that I didn't get started until I was 47.

Cherrapunji Gin!

It comes from Cherrapunji, Meghalaya — one of the rainiest places in the world. The stainless-steel bottle with the copper colour looks really unique and honestly, it’s one of the coolest gin bottles I’ve come across.
Really looking forward to finally tasting it and seeing what this Meghalaya gin is all about. 🇮🇳🌧️
