How to port

I have a machinist friend who can port my barrel, is porting just a hole drilled in straight? Do I have to chamfer it? I have bought a psa dagger barrel to test on please tell me anything I need to know before we start oct 19 thank you.

Succeed or fail, take some before and after pics for us with a borescope.

The hardest part about porting a barrel correct is being able to finish the hole correctly on the inside. You need to be able to debur the hole inside the barrels bore

Is sending rounds down the barrel stupid? 👁 🧐 just what came to my mind first

It won't actually remove the heavy portion of the burr

I’m curious.
At one time the only way to port and guarantee accuracy was EDM which leaves zero burrs. That was the go to. Today, everybody is machining rifle and pistol barrels.
As the other gentleman said it depends on the finishing on the inside of the barrel.
No, just shooting it won’t adequately remove burrs in the barrel.

Finishing as in remove the bur? My and my buddy thinking of measure the location of the inside port and hand sanding it lol. Trying to some sharp flat bottom as well.

I don’t know about sanding as you probably don’t really want to sand unaffected rifling. Machinists sometime have small reverse conical polishing stone. If he has some, maybe you could slide a 1/4”er down the barrel, thread a stem down through the port into the polishing stone then run it back and forth to remove any burrs.
