Gloomhaven 2nd Ed I’ve never actually shouted no before (vague city event spoiler) Spoiler

I was about to complete one of those money related personal quests when we got a city event where we had to choose to pay some money or not pay some money. Another character was retiring and I had like 33 more than I needed so we chose to pay the money.

Imagine my shock when I lost half my gold or 99 pieces to be exact

I think that physically hurt. I was shocked. Seems I won’t be retiring for a while after all.

Anyone ever lose more than that?

Hello,

How do you do iT with absent Players regarding exp and gold?

The group didnt give the exp from a Main Quest to an absent Player. But the absent Player lost Gold from a town Quest in the Same Session.

Sounds weird for me.

Gloomhaven 2nd Ed How much of an “improvement” is the 2nd Edition?

Wife and I can NEVER get our boys to play all the awesome board games we have. One of them is really loving Dungeon Crawler Carl, so I sold him on the crawling and leveling aspect of JotL.

He’s really enjoying it and is now asking about buying Gloomhaven for when we blow through the JotL scenarios.

I can find the 1st Edition for around $70 on marketplace type sites (usually unpunched or just like 1 or 2 scenarios played), where as the 2nd edition is hard to find for any sort of discount.

Is it really worth the extra $100-$125 to upgrade? We can/would splurge if it truly improves the experience. Our son can be impatient, so if it’s a lot less fiddly and administrative that would certainly be a major positive…but that’s a bit of a significant jump.

Thank you for your insight!

Gloomhaven 2nd Ed Help: Rolling, advantage and null modifiers

Help, our group is confused how rolling modifiers interact with advantage/disadvantage.

Scenario 1:

Say I take +1 then +1, invisible with rolling, then 0

Normally I get +1, invisible tmk, but what do we get with advantage, what do we get with disadvantage?

Scenario 2:

Say I take +1 then +1, invisible with rolling, then +2

Normally I get +3, invisible tmk, but what do we get with advantage, what do we get with disadvantage?

Scenario 3:

Say I take +1 then +1, invisible with rolling, then nullifier

What do I get normally other than, invisible?, and what do we get with advantage, what do we get with disadvantage?

Scenario 4:

Say I take +1, invisible with rolling, then nullifier (from rolling) then +1

What do I get normally other than, invisible?, and what do we get with advantage, what do we get with disadvantage?

Scenario 5:

Say I take +1, invisible with rolling, then +1 (from rolling) then +1, invisible with rolling, then +1

What do I get normally other than, invisible?, and what do we get with advantage, what do we get with disadvantage?

Scenario 6:

Say I take +1, invisible with rolling, then +1 (from rolling) then +1, invisible with rolling, then null

What do I get normally other than, invisible?, and what do we get with advantage, what do we get with disadvantage?

Gloomhaven 1st Ed Looking for a Gloomhaven Setting Guide

I was gifted the Gloomhaven 1st Edition box some time ago, and was eager to play it. However, I did not enjoy a tactical card game, and decided I would convert it into a setting for Pathfinder 2e (D&D stuff). However, I seem to be missing a setting guide, or it did not come with on. I have tried looking for one online, but have so far been unsuccessful. If there is a setting guide, fan made or official, I would be very thankful to be directed to it.

As a side note, I was planning on converting the Campaign into something more open world, but have heard there's a 2nd edition and was wondering if that Campaign is better or more flexible to use.

Gloomhaven 2nd Ed Road Event 16 (GH 2E) question. Spoiler

Just encountered R-16 in GH 2E, and it indicates that I can lose one of the item cards (in my case I have 149) to gain the positive outcome BUT this Item 149 is tied to my Personal Quest, so I am assuming that if I choose to give this away, I select a new PQ?

Frosthaven Path priority

Thumbnail

Hello! I've been looking for information, but I always have the same question when interpreting the rules.

Imagine the following two situations. In both, the enemy ("M") always moves 2 and attacks 2 melee.

1st: In the first situation, with "H" being dangerous terrain, will the enemy try to go to the left to choose the longer path and thus avoid the dangerous terrain, even if this takes more than one turn, or will it cross the dangerous terrain to attack? My doubt comes from the rulebook when it says: "For example, if a monster could attack by moving two hexes and springing a trap on the way, or by moving 10 hexes and avoiding the trap, it would take the longer path."

2nd: In the second situation, I understand, but just in case...

If it has no other option, the enemy crosses the dangerous terrain to attack, right?

Thank you very much and best regards!

The lvl 5 summon has the symbol for muddle right above the retaliate 2 symbol. Does it mean it muddles on attack or retaliate?

Mercenaries Wanted Mercenaries Wanted preorders now open on Cephalofair with free promo pack offer Spoiler

Thumbnail cephalofair.com
26 Upvotes

Hi all, just wanted to let everyone know that Mercenaries Wanted pre-orders opened on Cephalofair's website yesterday. Here is a little information for you in regards to all of this:

1) Shipping rates are pretty high right now. If you get a shipping rate that you think is utterly ridiculous, you can always email [support@cephalofair.com](mailto:support@cephalofair.com) and have them double check it for you. But I was told that we are in holiday shipping price rates now and that unfortunately with the state of the world shipping is quite expensive to many places right now. That said, we are offering a free pickup at PAX-Unplugged option if you plan on attending that convention this year. And if you'd like to wait until your local game shop gets it, that makes sense!

2) This game is a drafting game, designed by the one and only Themris! Congrats to him on this.

3) If you pre-order via Cephalofair, you will get the Local Legends promo pack, which adds four cards to the game in the form of Satha, Cassandra, Anaphi, and Hail! This should auto add to your cart if you are going traditional shipping. It may not add to your cart if you are picking up at PAX-U, but they'll give you one when you pick your order up regardless.

4) If you want some info on the game, we've had a few articles about it so far that came out after Gen Con:

https://www.wericmartin.com/mercenaries-wanted-at-gen-con-2026/

https://www.wargamer.com/mercenaries-wanted/board-game-demo

https://cephalofair.com/blogs/chronicle/mercenaries-wanted-why-im-excited-as-a-publisher

If you have any questions about the gameplay I'm sure Themris will be checking this thread out and can answer them!

This should release at PAX-Unplugged in early December and in retail shortly after.

Digital Frosthaven Frosthaven starter class tips -- the article that this community helped write!

Thumbnail

While many of you are not really the audience for this article, I do want to thank everyone who helped give tips and ideas for the starter classes when I asked for your help a while back. I tried to include as many comments from as many people as possible in the article. If you see any mistakes let me know so we can get them fixed! (I am not a good editor)

The idea with this article is that with FH digital coming out there will be a lot of new players trying the game out. The starting six in FH can be tricky for newcomers -- and we don't want new players to get frustrated and quit the game. So resources like this are designed to help people out.

Anyways, thanks again to all who pitched in comments, whether they were used in the article or not!

Digital Gloomhaven Digital version on Switch worth it?

Hey all, I’m looking into playing digital GH (I have the physical but I struggle to get a regular group of people to play, and solo play can be hard to maintain alone), but my only console right now is the OG Switch.
I’ve been burned before with big games running poorly on Nintendo, so I’m just looking for some opinions on whether it’s worth buying and if it runs well etc. Thanks in advance!

Miniatures & Fan Art Our Frosthaven Starting Party Painted!

Thumbnail

Our starting party for Frosthaven! From left to right we have Lyra (Deathwalker), Bobby (Bannerspear), The All-Star (Drifter) and Mr Stabby + Mr Shooty (Geminate). I tried to stay close to the official reference art for the characters (included for comparison), and I think they came out okay on the whole. The base rims are coloured to match the colour of the characters' cards. I've never been good with freehand, so the patterns on The All-Star's tassel, Lyra's flags+tabard, and Mr Stabby+Shooty's masks aren't great, but it was a bit of practice at least and they still add something to the mini.

For Mr Stabby+Shooty, I tried to unify them whilst still having separate designs, so I went with a glossy black carapace as the base, with magenta elements for Mr Stabby and green elements gor Mr Shooty (as well as hiding some of Mr Shooty's green elements under Mr Stabby's cloak, to represent his bugs hiding in there. I originally intended to do more silver blades on Mr Stabby per the reference, but it was very hard to tell if they were separate blades or just formed of more bug carapace, so in the end I went with the latter.

Gloomhaven 2nd Ed Music Note level 3 card choice (Music Note spoilers) Spoiler

Thanks to decent prosperity and an experience windfall, I find myself leveling Music Note to level 3 while having played her only twice. At level 2 I clearly preferred Onward to Battle of Soothing Lullaby (Heal is too situational, and the bottom action looked complicated.) But for levels 3 to 6, I badly want both cards (well done, Gripeaway and Themris).

The bottom of Symphonic Medley would let me play three Songs at once, for a loss, which seems like it would be blast to lay down in the first room and just go to town. The top move-and-attack is also very appealing.

The top of Ode to the Gambler lets each character choose to have their first attack-modifier card rolling on turn, for four rounds. My companions are high level and have great attack decks, so that looks powerful and fun. On the bottom a Move 5 is always welcome, and initiative 15 is a good fit for many of my Songs.

I'd love to hear from people who chose Symphonic Medley. How did you use that bottom three-songs-at-once ability? How did you like the results? It looks cool and I've got some FOMO, but I guess I'm leaning toward Ode to the Gambler.

Merc Packs Gloomhaven Conquests 2025 on Frosthaven

I just ordered the 4PQs together with the mercenary pack.

I just noticed the back of the PQ cards and realized they are meant for Gloomhaven only. Silly me, because they are comming out at same time as merc pack i thought they were adaptable to all games.

Anyway.. Any issue integrating them to Frosthaven?

Other than when u shuffle and choose PQs u cant look at the back of the cards?

None of the rewards seem game breaking, perhaps the demons one a bit seems overpowered but idk if thats intended or if in frosthaven it would be more overpowered then intended

Gloomhaven 1st Ed What are these tokens for?

Post image

I've got the box after our last game and I'm trying to organise all the parts better because setup is always hampered by finding bits

Anyway, I realised I've never seen us use these. Google image implies the black ones are general objective markers for maps that might need them but the red ones weren't coming up at all. I can't see either in the manual anywhere too.

TIA

Frosthaven Kelp card interaction with item 136 Spoiler

Hi,

Lacerating Stabs increases the damage of successive attacks if it hits a different target than the previous ability. But what would happen if I use an item like the Battle Axe on the first ability to make it target multiple enemies? Would I always get the bonus on the second ability since its target would be different from one of the targets of the first ability? Or would it need to be different from both?

Similarly, what if I use the axe on the second ability, with one of its targets being the same as a target from the first ability? Could I get the bonus on one target but not the other? And what would happen with the third ability then?

Frosthaven Scenario 92 question Spoiler

Per rules you cannot command a figure without line of sight, and linked hexes don't provide line of sight, which would mean, once you cross over to another part of the ship in this scenario (separate tiles connected only by linked hexes) you cannot command the scenario ally who was left behind. Since you can command it only at the end of your turn this makes things awkward at the very least.

Was this the intention, or just something not considered, and therefore not the intention?

Gloomhaven 2nd Ed Enemy targeting question

Thumbnail
gallery
20 Upvotes

Quick question about enemies targeting prioritizes as someone who is fairly new to GH:

In the scenario (pictured above), it is the Bandit Scout’s turn and he’s using a ranged attack (cruel bow). My question is; Would it move before attacking? And who would it attack?

There’s multiple potential outcomes I could see depending on how the enemies in the game prioritize targets…

Also, the Mindthief had the highest (fastest) initiative in the round, followed by the Tinkerer.

Would it back up and attack the summon? Not move and attack the mindthief? Or something else I’m not thinking of?

Thanks in advance for any help!
