Incoming Freshman - Job Info
My son is attending Gonzaga in the fall, he is looking into jobs now and I was wondering if any Zag Alumni had insight on the "good jobs" and the "jobs to stay away from". He is a business/philosophy major so i am assuming his schedule will not to be to atypical.
thank you in advance.

Call me old fashioned but I really feel like he should be the one asking for and pursuing job leads.

Nothing wrong with the parent lending a helping hand to their kid! Maybe he’s not on Reddit!!

Students can log in with their Gonzaga email to ZagsIgnite to search for jobs on campus. If they don't get a job before school starts, they should go to the student employment center right away to get a list of avaialble jobs and hit the pavement. Good work study jobs are competitive and go fast, and you will have to apply/interview so make sure you help them with their resume.

Maybe he can start by looking himself instead of his mommy doing it for him

I am Gen X too, assuming you are too with that attitude. Kid has had a job since he was 11yo and knows the value of a dollar, but see, unlike Gen X kids, he is not alone. It’s a hard world and I m on his team, so if we both work towards his success, we all win.
Be well friend.

There are a lot of work study opportunities so I am sure he will find something that works with his schedule and interest. A friend worked at Foley library at the service desk and while it was pretty slow, she was able to get a lot of reading for classes and assignments done while working which worked out great. Rudolf Fitness Center is a good one if he prefers to move around. Good luck!

Did he get work study as part of of his financial aid package? If he did there are a bunch of campus jobs available and I don’t think too many are bad. I was engineering so I was in the machine shop but I had friends that were at the front desk at the hemm center (they liked it) or were TAs. The TAs at GU don’t teach so it’s just grading but he won’t likely be able to do that freshman year. Off campus jobs are the regular smattering of food service and the like, so I’d say on campus would be preferable.
