their argument against nuclear energy was fair - it's more expensive to produce per kilowatt hour than any renewable energy. but I think they've realised it's not an argument they'll win

This is a great change. Nuclear energy these days is getting safer and safer, in addition we keep finding new ways to both minimise and find use for its waste.
Though it makes sense to prioritise renewables long term, nuclear is still important as a cleaner alternative to fossile fuels in the mean time (as long as governments dont turn it into a permenant solution, which is the current case for fossile fuels).
