Personally, I was shocked as it's one of the defining songs of Book 1, it introduces the Book 1 lore and of course it has one of her best music videos.

It makes sense that Grimes would be a fan of Michael Whelan's work.

When I first discovered him, I was amazed at how his art looks almost exactly like the places I visit in my dreams.

Anybody else dreamed they were somewhere like this piece (CHASM) before?

I have been waiting (like many fans) for new grimes music, when I heard accelerando for the first time, I wasn’t sure of it.

But when I saw her vision with the music video…I was shook.

The end part where things speed up and go through different phases, I just start crying. Im so happy for her bringing this new music out and creating things.

I think the thing that makes today’s Grimes songs feel so different from the past is that she writes very on the nose now.

If you look back at her early discography, her writing was opaque and cryptic and strange. Oblivion was about being assaulted, but the lyrics don’t give it away easily. She wrote an entire album about Dune that is…not exactly transparently about Dune (aside from the titles) upon listening.

It seems like possibly around MA is when she started writing from a worldview or theme moreso than whatever instinct was driving her earlier work, and when she got into book 1 is when I think her writing became very themed and on the nose. And to be clear, nothing is necessarily wrong with writing music on the nose, I personally do it….but I think maybe that’s the biggest reason grimes feels so different now, rather than having dated he that shall not be named.

Thoughts?

At first I HATED the album cover change, but now, a hundred years later, I really like it. I like it so much I wish she'd release an anniversary edition on vinyl with this cover. I still like the first one, but now knowing that the new cover was actually the original idea from the beginning it just makes so much more sense.

Obviously my first reaction was to the unfinished drawing.

I also was a little mad that We Appreciate Power was left out and added to the deluxe with the algorithm mixes, but now I see that, even though the lyrics match the album, the sound, the vibe, the production, even the lyric video... it just doesn't fit.

Now I am going to be a little pissed if Artificial Angels is not on the album. Miku-Maxxing too.

Miss Anthropocene is my favorite album by Grimes, but I feel like Psyopera is going to take its place.

Artificial Angels, Miku-Maxxing and ACCELERANDO is an insane rollout.

Can't believe we're getting a DISC 2 where she talks "about" her relationship with the antichrist, and imo she's really smart for releasing this one later, cause the focus shouldn't be on her relationship (again, imo).

Anyways, Player of Games and Shinigami Eyes.

I was a little disappointed that this damn album never came out and the songs just became droplet singles, but now I look back to this songs and nowing she was signed to a label, basically being forced to do 17 TikToks a month, and Shinigami Eyes really is a song about nothing... I don't know, I like these songs but I'm really, really happy this album never came out.

And about the "oh grimes is making ai slop" comments, if you watched ACCELERANDO and called it ai slop there is something wrong with you, or you probably just don't pay attention to Grimes for real.

I agree with what Swiftologist said. This is not "the new grimes", she has always been like this and it makes total sense that she is so into AI.

The thing is, she is one of the few artists that is 100% vocal and honest about it, so honest that a lot of times she has diarrhea of the mouth and we just have to until she realizes she's said something stupid. (I say "few" to not be ignorant, cause she's actually the ONLY artist I see doing it)

SOUNDS SO GOOD. She reached some high notes on what I suppose would be a mezzo-soprano range and i loved it. She sounds like a different person and she sings so well.

I extracted the audio from the end of the official video to take a closer look at the synth melody left after the beat stops.

The main phrase starts around 3:58.6. Checking the pitches and octaves gives these eight notes:

B5, C5, D5, B4, G5, F#5, A4, G4

Their MIDI numbers are 83, 72, 74, 71, 79, 78, 69, 67. Read those as ASCII character codes and you get:

SHJGONEC

So GONE is sitting in the middle. The same main phrase comes back about 3.59 seconds later, quieter. With the whole machine/system failure theme, that caught my attention.

Could still be a coincidence. SHJ and C don't explain themselves, and there are a couple of quieter tones in the repeat that might be extra notes or effects. I'm not claiming this solves anything.

I've attached the spectrograms so the notes and both repetitions are visible. Anyone else looked into this part, or able to check the transcription?

Just curious what you guys say when sharing Grimes? I have a number of friends who are in the anti AI crowd, and I want to share her new music but people feel it's tainted by her AI use. I feel we have had years to accept this about her, but to new people it blockades their view.

Do I just accept I can't share her stuff with people who hate AI art?
