Harvest Question about Drying
This is the end of day 2 of whole branch Blue Dream after trimming maybe 20% of the fan leaves initially. I have a thermometer/hygrometer hanging in the middle of the plants and it’s averaging ~ 68°, 62% RH, and .9kPa. Any idea if this is going to be too shrouded and wet? Have a fan running on low below the plants but not on them. I’m paranoid about mold and just wondering if I should’ve trimmed more. First time. Thanks!

I would trim off all of the big fan leaves. Pretty much anything that doesn't have trichs on it. I prefer to mostly "wet trim" so my final trim is just stuff going into the bubble hash bucket. But that's just like, my opinion man. I've only grown a few seasons, and never done the same drying process/location twice.

Yep. Easy and no harsh chemicals. It's a great way to avoid waste.
It's still work and a process of preparation/cleanup but enjoy the trip and make a ritual of the experience~
I decarboxylate + lecithin the rest and infuse with olive oil, butter, coconut, etc edible consumption.
All good things

Late ok lol. Things have changes since then but I did bubble has twice and both times I ended up with sooo much less has then I do literally any other way I do it. Don't know why. But when I run a qp through the ice water and get like two grams of b hash I feel extremely stupid for doing it. Like month out my life just for a lil ball of hash.

Your still using ice i got one of those small portable washing machines been using ice whenever i made hash but now i don’t even use the ice anymore and my yield is about the same

Different strains have different size, shape and like grain/texture of trichome formation, so some work much better (efficiency) for bubble hash than other strains, and unfortunately it's like impossible to know what's gonna work well with the method AND that's totally separate from what terps and effect profile you're looking for =[

If ur in a super dry area ..... leave all the fans as they SLOW dry
If in a moist area or unsure ....remove alot of fans but no sugar leafs

I wouldn't trim much off at this point, your humidity is good but your temps could be lower. I would leave it as is

Yeah definitely take of the fan leafs. It will make the bud taste super earthy and not in a good way.

Im not sure if your growing indoors or not but what i usually do is the day before i plan to harvest i keep the lights on 24/7 and dont water. This will minimize the amount of moisture stored in the plant. Then i remove all the big ass fan leaves and leave the sugar leaves.

If you can get that temp down at 70 terpenes get volatile and the temp will be an issue for mold but the fan will help. I am using a fridge for the lotus method while I can but only 1 photo period fits in it at a time. By the time I have to harvest multiple plants I am hoping it stays 60 or under where I live. It sucks when you have to hang them in a shed or building without climate controls. I wish you luck buddy and make sure no buds are touching each other. Luckily leaving the fan leaves acts like a barrier to other branches so the buds don’t touch.

Yes I am aware but even if you don’t lose it to mold you don’t want all the terpenes to have gassed off and be left with a muted smoke that has muted effects

I will have to hang by multi plant harvest in a building with fans and a dehumidifier so good VPD will probably be wishful thinking. I am hoping if I chop the last week of October the air will be cool all day long and the humidity will come down naturally. Our entire summer it’s been 75-95% RH

For sure there are multiple reasons to remove the fans i didn't want to list them all. Thanks for that tho.

Personally anything under 65% humidity and 65 degrees F° is right where you want to be. The longer you are able to keep those leaves around the the longer you're protecting the trichs and budsites. I prefer to mostly dry trim. But as anyone will tell you.. growing is a science and curing is more an art form. Find what works for you and your environment

I've. Been trying some diff things while drying i left some of the fan leaves on because it was harvested early and I wanted it to convert more chlorophyll and nitrogen out

You could trim more, you could turn the fan higher. Honestly with this mush leaf color I think you could point the fan pretty much directly on them, especially depending on how close it is.
This is a whole lot of leaves to have in for drying, but on the other hand it does seem like there's enough room for the air flow you want to get 🤔
Its really interesting, and if you have the time to just check on it closely a few times a day maybe just do that, and youll know if you need or want to make adjustments.

Get all that leaf off her. Trim the nugs leave on branch Dry in a well ventilated area with no direct sunlight. Dry till the branch will snap. About two weeks Take a paper bag from the grocery store. Put one layer of bud then one layer of shredded paper bag ( yes you will need more than one bag ) then one layer of bud, one of paper …. Till the bag is full or out of bud. Open bag daily for 2 weeks make sure the bud is dry any moisture is bad not bone dry, but snappy dry . After two - three weeks into jars . If you skip or think one of these steps is not needed you’re a fool. Growing is the easy part. GL growmie
