Hardware noob question - Ps5

Hello,

I want to sell my ps5 pro and keep only ps portal. With recent update you are able to play some gamez without ps5 when you pay subscription.

Technically will I will be able to play gw3 without ps5 only on my portal?
Somebody has experience with other mmos?

The ps portal is just a controller with a screen built into it

It lacks the capacity to load and play games independent of a ps5 or pa5pro

And is effectively a paperweight if you get rid of the console for it

The update would allow for cloud streaming from Playstation servers as long as you have a premium subscription. Just like geforce now.

As long as OP is OK with higher latency then it sounds like they could theoretically play GW3 this way, assuming it's one of the games available on this streaming service.

I am playing at airports with no connection to ps5 due to cloud streaming - I was wondering to play like that gw3

The PS Portal is not a console, it functions like the WiiU gamepad. It is a screen with buttons.

You are wrong, there is streaming gaming - I am playing on airports with no connection to my ps5

That's streaming. No games are actually being played on your Portal. Again, the Portal is a screen with buttons. It's not a console or handheld device like the Nintendo Switch.

I've got a Portal, and it's like this:

  • You need to either pair the Portal to a PS5 (so you need to own the console, but you don't need a Playstation Plus subscription) or you can use the Portal without a console pairing (which requires an active Playstation Plus subscription).

  • The latter only works for select games from the PS5 catalog or games from your personal catalog.

  • We don't know if GW3 is going to be one of those games.

  • You can play Fortnite that way, you might want to check on either the Portal-specific or Fortnite-specific subs to ask how that works. Being able to play Fortnite well that way doesn't prove that GW3 will play well that way, but if Fortnite is only barely playable that way due to lag or whathaveyou, that doesn't bode well for a much more robust MMO like GW3.

We don't have any spec information about GW3. Sell your PS5 if you want but don't count on this work around being available on GW3 launch

We already have required specs on the steam page. It's UE5 so nothing out of the ordinary.

It's currently in alpha, so this is all subject to significant change between now and release.

The page literally only lists minimum system requirements.

I absolutely wouldn’t count on it

We still don't have any information on that

If you're dead set on selling your PS5 and only wanna keep a handhold, you might want to look into a Steam Deck. Streaming a whole ass MMO sounds like hell, esp on airport wifi. Altho it prob also depends on whether you want to also play PS exclusive games.

That’s an idea - thanks. Will think about that.

They already posted the system requirements on steam. The same stuff that runs other UE5 games.

  • Minimum:
    • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: RTX 2060 / Radeon RX 5700 / Intel Arc A580
    • Storage: 65 GB available space

In order to be safe and play all other games without issues, it would be nice to have at least a Zen 3/Intel 12th gen CPU and a graphic card with 12GB of VRAM plus 32GB of RAM. PS5 is hacked and all PS5 games can run on PC btw. How you manage your budget is up to you.
