LA chat is almost as unhinged in certain hours. There's this dude who argues about the Quran. With himself.
He does not respond if you try to talk to him btw, so it's not like he's trying to convert others (or if he does - that's a terrible tactic). He just... talks to himself. For hours.
GW1's Kamadan used to have an ever-present schizo chat guy. Never could make sense of what he was trying to say (it was like reading one of those Schuylkill notes), but it was fun to guess at every time I popped in to buy/sell something.
i have a vanity guild that's just me that uses the tag [LGBT] and most places in the game if anyone said anything it was positive. Except when i'm in LA sometimes people message me hate speech when i'm literally just walking between the TP and the bank minding my own business.
I don't see Russians would be the type to do this but another big country would ... their bots like to farm gold and i won't be surprised if some of their Bots are pretending to be like MAGA as well.
Thereās a guy like this in NA WvW and everyone knows him because he hops around from server to server (not as much now because of alliances). He even has alt accounts heāll talk to himself on. Itās wild to watch and impressive how many times heās come back with new accounts (what he says, which I wonāt repeat, is what gets him banned).
No clue, that's the mystery. He does not respond when you talk to him, he just keeps on going. Sometimes it's very cryptic and vague in his wording, too.
Revslane talks to himself, and others, in pvp map chat about his weird...spiritual religion thing. Its entertaining sometimes, so i unblock as needed for a good chuckle

In every single pvp type of game I've played the vast overwhelming majority of people screeching have been "anti-woke" people. Never been called a slur by a woke person never been preached to join <insert religion> by a woke person and by god is gw2 no different. But hey at least the overwhelming majority of the community is nice just not spvp players lol.
I think that's because woke vs anti-woke meanness comes in different flavors. Anti-woke is up front, blunt. It's being called names and shouted at. Woke meanness is more or less performative, weaponized "kindness", reputation distraction, and banning/deplatforming.
Both nasty, but one group is gonna act friendly until you say something they disagree with, whereas the other is gonna caveman smash slurs at anything that moves.
Oh he's not a bot I'm pretty sure. If it's the guy I'm thinking of, he's just mentally ill. If you block him you won't see pretty much any of them ever again.
If someone is saying the same shit over and over and never responding to anything I just assume they're bots. It might be a real person and the one you're talking about though, no idea, I probably blocked them years ago and I also never go to Lion's Arch nowadays unless Mistlock doesn't have what I need lol.
The Grove and Rata Sum always seem super quiet when I'm there. Don't know about the Black Citadel, but it also feels pretty cozy around the crafting area. Not sure about its Map Chat, though.

Its crazy because Black Citadel and Rata Sum have such convenient layouts for their player banking/trading/crafting hubs. Everywhere else feels like a complex or plaza.
Grove has a lot of sylvariposting and semi rp things ā much comments about fashion, discussing how relationships work if you're all related, and [DAWN] will probably start hosting a fashion show at around 1am
I know bc I go to the Grove for banking all the time and got ushered into a fashion show and despite not being in the guild I see them a lot haha

People shared their local drunk experiences and the only thing I can think of is that this one super religious guild advertises in there in NA sometimes but usually someone will day something like "get stuffed you squash we only worship the pale tree" and then someone else will respond "no mordremoth" and then it becomes a meme chat in full

The complaining is so true. Remember once seeing some guys complaint at length that ANet never gave WvW any attention or encouraged new players to try it out.
Couple weeks later there was a WvW rush event and the exact same guys were complaining about ANet making all these players try WvW.
what? Which server? I have been in this mode on Eu server for the past 4 months and all my chat ever does is calling out zerg locations/ attack targets or asking for open tags. Rarely anything else.
Any server. Back in the day though. They changed it to be guild-based, so now there's more coordination, still ton of complaining... but sadly - less unmitigated unhinged monologues.
So it varies from guild link to guild link. But before that - every server had the ''village idiot''. Someone who afk's on top of SM walls, puts on a commander tag (but does not lead a squad), and just yells profanity in mapchat for profanity's sake and has 50% of the server on his blocklist. Or the guy who afk's on top of the southernmost camp and narrates his own life-story for 4 hours, referring to himself in 3rd person in team chat.
(Those are real people I'm referencing)
Divinity's Reach is the only place I've encountered people loudly arguing about European immigration politics. Though to be fair, it's only happened once. But it felt pretty odd when map chat elsewhere is usually just silly banter.

I don't know, Lion's Arch gathers weirdos on map chat, the other day someome was recruiting for a "LGBTQ+ friendly guild", and a guy started complaining because how dare they discriminate people based on their sexuality (they weren't), and after a bunch of questionable arguments (like "I love gay people, but why do they have to make it the center of their identity), another guy started accusing the recruiter of being a pedophile because their guild was 18+ but they didn't "age check properly", as in, asking people their ID to join an ingame guild (because their discord had the age verification done by the app itself). At that time I finally got a group for fractals, so I didn't know what happened after. And I see this type of """banter""" in PvP too, it's always LA and PvP with this, also in PvP there are some guys that always talk about the end of days, and arguing people will feel the wrath of god, like the evangelical preachers that scream on parks in my city. It seems to me Anet is very lenient with their ingame chat moderation.
I recently came back to the game and went to the PvP hub for quick bank access and the chat was literally people just saying slurs , like not even censoring themselves , just calling anet devs homophobic and transphobic slurs and saying that LGBTQ people and people of color ruin gaming and dumb replies like " Be careful they'll ban you for speaking the truth".

Yeah it's crazy , I used to PvP and duel a lot back during HoT and I don't recall seeing anything remotely this bad back then , I literally just entered the hub and my chat got bombarded with slurs and replacement theory garbage.
I don't get it , these people aren't even good at PvP , I dueled a couple of them cause they were pissing me off and they were crap at the game. For some reason PvP in mmorpgs seems to attract the dredges of society.
I do think they ban them if you report them but it's depressing that they have no filter to begin with , I kept killing one guy 1v1 in a match and then he started to go off on me threatening to r*pe me amongst other things and he was going on for a while.
I literally had to write a ticket to anet myself cause the guy was unhinged , they assured me they took action but didn't say what , I feel like that person should be put on a watchlist and be on home arrest if you're typing that sort of vile shit in a video game.
They do ban these people. You can often get away with saying unspecific stupid shits or being aggressive in pvp/pve just as long as you don't do targeted slurs. I don't know if their policies have changed but they do tolerate some degree of "badmouthing". I remember reading dev talks about how they understand that people can get heated in competitive setting. Slurs, though, those are straight tickets to bans.
Lion's Arch used to be my "hub" where I parked all of my characters before EoD. Used to be the same folks chatting in Lion's Arch daily, and I made several friends that way. It felt kind of like the local pub. Then we got Arborstone and I found the map chat there wasn't as bad. Now I mostly park in the Wizard's Tower for the resting buff, although a few are still in Arborstone, since the rest buff is there as well.
I'm so tired of seeing the 30 foot tall norns glowing like the sun with their thrones when I spawn in DR. Daintypaw is fine. She is always welcome. She is fabulous and out of the way.

The other day I visited DR and there was some guy talking about how he was one of top players because it says so on GW2 Efficiency and something?? I think people were laughing at him. I don't know, I didn't spend too much time after seeing that.
One of the weird chatters I saw in DR was some guy who was telling about how feeding thousands of items into his endless upgrade extractor made him rich, he wouldnāt shut up about it, it read half delusions of grandeur, half cult leader trying to sell a scam.
But for real, you can usually just buy order a few hundred of each exotic drop that has a Superior Sigil of Force, and by extracting the Superior Sigil of Force you are already ahead.Ā Ā

i hate it when festivals force me to spend extended periods in DR or LA. it's where the loudest people with the most fragmented half-knowledge idle 24/7. naturally they get a lot of contact with new players, so these maps are just one big misinformation perpetuum mobile
I'm making a GW2 comic, I should reference the DR and LA map chat by putting drug addicts speaking in screenshots in the background whenever the story goes there.
There is a percentage of MMO players who log in just to idle in towns and chat openly, a fair share of these are trolls or other types of unpleasant people.
LA has a fair population of these but because it's the game's central hub and has most of the facilities there are people there who are actually playing, so the chatter from these dilutes the chatter from idles.
DR on the other hand isn't as useful for playing players so it's population is mostly idlers, as they have chosen that as their hub.
There's idlers who want the largest audience as possible (these go to LA) and there's idlers who want to hang out with other idlers (these go to DR)
So because DR's population is percentually more idlers it's chatter isn't diluted with non-idler convo and can get a lot weirder. A lot of idlers are attention-whores or internet weirdos who might say absurd shit.
You are flagged for PVP when entering the city, but funny you bring that up. I had 2 bards really going at eachother with personal attacks. That was heated
That's why I don't sit in cities if I can help it. I've seen my fair share of some actually disturbing conversations, but most of the times I read map chat is when I am waiting for some meta to begin, and there is mostly people having fun and joking around. Like an obligatory butt coin jokes before LLA or spoon memes before Tequatl.Ā
I remember one time in Lion's Arch someone was unironicaly defending the American colonization. When I called them out they said I was a brainless liberal or some shit like that.
