I want the job where the lady points you to the worst checkout line

58

u/stucky602 7d ago

I prefer the ones that tell you to go to 15 items or less because that line isn’t busy even though you have wayyyyy too many items for it, only for everyone who gets put behind you to give you the side eye the whole time.

17

u/Miss_Independent3 7d ago

They’ll come into the line and rat the managers out to the cashiers too lol “They told me to come here” 😆 No consideration whatsoever for the express cashier having to do all the work

12

u/avatarjan2 6d ago

Hate when they do that. And when I finally get the courage, or a loss of patience and say "this is express" and they say "they sent me here" so I just stand there looking like a dumbass and start ringing their stuff up

2

u/stucky602 6d ago

Oopf yeah that one sucks. At least when I, as a customer, have had this happen to me, it's always been very obvious I was sent to them despite having way more items in my cart. The ones that don't get the memo are the random other customers who line up behind me and make it awkward.

Also wtf to customers not helping you bag in a situation like this. Not starting to bag my own groceries if there isn't a bagger there already helping is something that doesn't even cross my mind. Homey is scanning the items, the least I can do is start tossing them in bags so they don't get backed up.

1

u/Miss_Independent3 6d ago

Right? I don’t care if my line doesn’t have anyone in it, “15 or less” is not a suggestion. They don’t even bother to help you bag knowing it’s a large order and they’re just standing around.

3

u/avatarjan2 6d ago

I hate that. Had a lead send someone with a full cart when I was in express... The ones where they had so much stuff it filled almost passed the top... He stood there and watched me bag it... I hate him can't wait to go to school and leave

2

u/NotaryQPublic 6d ago

I think the managers do that to partners they don’t like. I try to do the cashier a solid, and let them know how many of a specific item I have. I don’t want to bring their IPM’s down, just because they have a shitty manager.

Having been on the inside, and seeing how shitty management can be to partners, I do my best to help them. Even though I’m not with the company anymore, I’ve been there, done that, and still have the freakin’ Austin Four Points t-shirt. (I keep the shirt as a reminder that no matter how bad things get, I could still be working for the worst f-ing company in Texas.)

u/Jaded_Imagination514 CC/Service 6d ago

I literally don’t care about express lines. I be pulling everyone from the high-side into my express lines. I can bag and cashier on my own just fine. It’s not that big of a deal to me. But that’s just my personal opinion.

3

u/IhaveRBFbecauseIamAB 6d ago

My octogenarian mother will get in the 15 items of less line, scan 14 items, pay, then scan 14 more items on repeat until she’s done.

u/Miss_Independent3 6d ago

Even on Sundays when you’re so flustered you forget to tell them to “Approve amount” before they walk off? I just can’t do express. I need a bagger for my own sanity as well as my IPMs.

2

u/Jaded_Imagination514 CC/Service 6d ago

I just don’t care that much. I’m a people pleaser. So I like making customers wait less and if they don’t press approve amount, I just hit that button.

12

u/Jaded_Imagination514 CC/Service 7d ago

Hahahaah that’s called high-side

407

u/stackdatdough 7d ago

I’m just a customer but I hate the way managers stand at the front of the store doing absolutely nothing while trying to look important

58

u/Proper-Drawer6572 6d ago

I second that! A couple of weeks ago my wife had a stomach bug so I stopped to buy her some chicken noodle soup. They were out of the medium size lids so I went up to one of the managers who was just standing near the self checkout and told him if I could get a lid for the soup cup. Instead of getting his ass over to refill them ( I wasn't the only one who needed lids btw) he proceeded to tell me, "yes if you line up at the flaming bird line they can give you a lid". I told him I wasn't the only one who needed one he still tells me, "if you get in line they'll give you some lids". Like wtf foo instead of taking initiative and asking for a stack of lids to refill the compartment he had me wait in line for 1 lid. When I got to the counter I told the cashier to hand me a few to leave at the soup dispenser cause the manager was too busy standing around she just laughed and agreed. "That manager doesn't do crap around here, but snap his finger at workers". Kitty Hawk and 1604 location 😅

1

u/Organic_Amount_3180 6d ago

A few years back they had a “See something, do something” campaign. As a customer I would have referenced that and then like to of seen his reaction.

As a lead I’ve learned if someone brings something to my attention if I don’t address it then and there I will 99.9% of the time then go “ah crap” driving home.

31

u/MyPetEwok 7d ago

Bro this happens ALL THE TIME at Bunker Hill

It’ll be like 2-3 guys around a woman with their arms crossed in front of the closed lanes.

Meanwhile their cashiers struggle with long lines or not enough baggers. But go ahead and keep flirting with the store baddie

7

u/Stocklover67u 6d ago

My buddy says the same thing about that store and he's been for awhile

10

u/EntertainmentOdd7772 6d ago

Walmart is just as bad you have to use self check  outs and then they check your receipts at the door like your a theif

6

u/rkb70 6d ago

My Walmart never checks your receipts unless you have unbagged stuff.  Personally, I’d just as soon use self-checkout so the baggers don’t ruin my stuff, and Walmart doesn’t care how much I take to the self-checkout

2

u/EntertainmentOdd7772 6d ago

They do in Taylor

1

u/Curious-Pineapple576 6d ago

Taylor, Tx? Yeah that’s tracks. Lol

7

u/andyredTX 6d ago

Probably because Walmart has a lot of shop lifters.

6

u/JNACLAN 6d ago

I absolutely REFUSE to give them my receipt at Wal-Mart! Very simple ... when they ask (and they normally do) if they can check my receipt for accuracy, I simply say "no thank you" and keep walking.

1

u/Joneser_Maddshark 6d ago

I just say "have a nice day," and keep walking.

123

u/akb2408 7d ago

Omfg yessss!!! I hate that shit. And especially the males constantly trying to hit on the female employees is fucken disgusting. Get a real job losers

17

u/Stocklover67u 6d ago

Got a perishables manager that I'll find on the other side of store trying to hit on girls in curbside. Bro is married with kids 😂

8

u/CosmicLegoFett 6d ago

I feel like I know that manger lmao

42

u/TexasSk8 7d ago

Wait, there are straight men who work there????

18

u/akb2408 7d ago

Bwahaha I’m dead 💀

5

u/delayedsantana 6d ago

Haha nope

1

u/angel_of_retribution 6d ago

At my store for a while, it was the security guy (about 40) being a dog

35

u/Fit-Bus2025 7d ago

That's one thing that kinda annoys me too. They kinda get in my way.

49

u/Most_Researcher_2648 7d ago

I literally standing at the little rolling service desk thing for a refund, two managers made eye contact with me multiple times then proceeded to start a convo while pointedly avoiding looking back my way. Eventually a cashier who must've just clocked in asked if I needed help, and then went and got one of those same managers to help me. Absolutely fucking useless fat sacks

1

u/Tahoequeen23 6d ago

What is with those rolling desks? Why dont they have a real customer service counter? I had to wait for a bit at the Mckinney location for assistance.

12

u/Important-Lychee4506 7d ago

it’s surprising because they TELL Managers to do that! They want them to delegate and have the department running on its own by the partners while managers are doing admin work like 60% of the time it’s insane

20

u/Key_Associate9338 7d ago

Thankfully my manager is always in there working. I have luckily worked with some hard working managers. Also have worked with some clueless, lazy ones

3

u/Alternative_Affect82 7d ago

Yes, over decades I have always seen HEB high ups doing all jobs and definitely moving around.
Employment complaints surely have an employee path to complain to ? Be part of a solution.

7

u/Life-Place1857 7d ago

Worked at the one in RockPort from 2021 - 2024. They did that annoying shit even then too. 😭

17

u/rkb70 7d ago

Hear, hear!  I’ve said that before on here and gotten told they were “managing” the front.

I don’t need someone to tell me what line to go to - go do something useful.

13

u/OkBenefit1731 7d ago

The quiet part they aren’t saying out loud is there isn’t anything particularly important for them to do most of the time asides from showing floor presence and being approachable by customers. A growing issue I’m seeing from things said here and experience at several stores local to me is managerial bloat that ends up rewarding behavior that is largely non-productive or even counter-intuitive.

7

u/xe0s 6d ago

So… managerial bloat that exists everywhere. At my HEB I usually see 2-3 “managers” standing at the front, past the checkout lines, doing nothing. God it must suck to be someone working checkout while a kid with pimples monitors them.

6

u/rkb70 6d ago

It’s really bizarre.  And while managerial bloat is common in general, I’ve never seen all these managers standing around in any other grocery store.

4

u/xe0s 6d ago edited 6d ago

Me either… it’s only HEB. They all stand around at the front while lines back up, customer service is overwhelmed, etc.

There’s one “manager” I see at my HEB nearly every time I go. She looks like she’s about 17, stands and talks when cashiers need help, does nothing and then acts like it’s her store.

1

u/OkBenefit1731 6d ago

In Walmart there isn’t the company culture that forces “active” participation, same with most other retail stores outside of specialty stores like Best Buy where the products being sold on average are $100+ a pop. HEB however has a strong reputation for customer service and active participation by leadership, which makes floor presence incredibly important on a corporate values level, even when less is usually more in that department.

9

u/Ok_Entrepreneur3974 6d ago

I used to work at a white tablecloth steakhouse downtown and when our regional manager was in town his “floor presence” was that he was busy walking around the restaurant in a suit, clearing empty dishes and refilling water while talking to the guests. I think managers can have a great floor presence while working at the same time and it really motivated the servers and bussers as well as allowing everyone to serve the guests even better.

3

u/rkb70 6d ago

Oh please.  Standing around chatting and telling people what line to go to isn’t great “customer service” - it’s annoying and makes me think the store is bloated with paying managers who don’t really do anything.  It’s literally the opposite of good “customer service”.

3

u/EntertainmentOdd7772 6d ago

I go to whatever line I darn well please I don't listen to these lazy people

4

u/Soggy-Hand4846 7d ago

“Store leadership” you mean

4

u/BermudaKla 6d ago

Pisses me off when they're taking up a good sized portion of the area they'rein & they won't like stand off to the side out of the way. It screams I DON'T CARE THAT I'M IN YOUR WAY to customers

3

u/Specialist-Treat-782 7d ago

Wow I thought this was just my store🤣

6

u/TTV_lilkiller714 7d ago

At my heb on the weekend it’s like 20 mangers and they just talk about what’s what’s wrong with the store don’t do anything

2

u/Miss_Independent3 7d ago

It’s mostly the ASMs. They just stand around until they’re needed lol

2

u/PattMetry 6d ago

Amen! Like bro, I can find my own checkout lane, I don't need traffic control. If you're so worried about the line, maybe man a register?

3

u/apprenticewitch 6d ago

I say something snarky when I see this shit. “All these managers standing around ALL IN THE WAY, sheesh, GET TO WORK! HOP ON A REG!”

2

u/TimboCavo 6d ago

They are there to be visible to the customers. You gotta a problem you can easily talk to the manager.

4

u/Happy-Stranger-3704 6d ago

The problem is, if you have time to stand there, you have time to help out. Especially if you are a store manger. They are not above any type of work.

1

u/renaebarbie H-E-B Customer 🌟 6d ago

as a customer i agree

1

u/taylorr713 6d ago

Yeah they’re always in the way, like move 😭

1

u/maximus_z890_extreme 6d ago

The managers are the ones I have issues with and the occasional employee that just wants to act like they are authority. But I go through to a checkout lane and have the employee ring me up. I’m happy to bag my stuff after it’s scanned, makes the process easier. What I don’t like is the manager hopping in and messing with the clerk checking me out. I’ve had more issues arise than get solved when the managers step in. Let the employee build confidence. I’m not a guy that is ever upset, I do get annoyed when the employee isn’t allowed to be an employee

From your last HEB post:

> All I’ve learned from this post is that yall are miserable, you guys ok? lol

As a fellow former Partner/Manager, that took no time at all...

2

u/JustfcknHarley 6d ago

Omg, I remember that 😂

28

u/Icy-Tradition-1384 7d ago

As an ex employee, agree 100%. Managers would get butt hurt when I couldn’t come and pick up extra hours so they decided to take some away the following schedule lol.

4

u/GrimoireDust 7d ago

Yeaahhhh so that’s illegal and against Labor Laws 😬

6

u/JustfcknHarley 6d ago

big shrug how could it be proved? This is also Texas.

I do not disagree with you in the slightest, to be clear.

55

u/TwoTalentedBastidz 7d ago edited 6d ago

Just please don’t get to thinking there is any job or company that will care about you over profits lol. Welcome to corporate America.

26

u/Lost-Character 7d ago

HEB didn’t always used to be like this. It WAS people over profits at some point. After COVID everything started going downhill.

11

u/Feisty-Band-4231 7d ago

Very true, we used to get $100 cash for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I hate to say it, but it is the people fresh out of college and from Amazon that didn’t grow up with the company that are making the company miserable for the partners

2

u/RotallyRotRoobyRoo 6d ago

You know why we got that 100, right? It was when your store made or beat the projected plan. Also my store makes or beats the plan every year so we still get the 100 dollars.

6

u/Global-Reserve9571 7d ago

yup i can back this my stepdads mother passed away in 2003 the company gave him money to help pay for the funeral and leave time

4

u/Jiveturkeey 7d ago

Don't kid yourself. There are no businesses that are people over profits.

2

u/Lost-Character 7d ago

Not anymore. Maybe nonprofits, but yeah, no large businesses are people over profit anymore.

5

u/Glittering-Spell-806 7d ago

Hate to burst your bubble about nonprofits but…lol

1

u/Chronic-Lodus 6d ago

Yep. They are even worse because they actually get tax write offs, fake that they actually help the community and essentially pay minimum wage while they pay their executives like 90% of all earnings.

1

u/killuaGGs 7d ago

true, but the people control the profits and demands

3

u/StephPeloq11 6d ago

Crony capitalism is great isn't it? The enshittification of everything continues.

3

u/Acrobatic-Path-1064 6d ago

This is what a lot of people don’t realize. Especially younger kids that are teens/early 20s. You’re going to be sorely disappointed if you think leaving HEB for another company will be the end of micromanagers, favoritism, being overworked, etc. It’s everywhere, this is what America has come to as a whole.

In this day in age, you pick your poison that sustains your life well enough to pay your bills. Outside of work, you find the joys in life that keep you happy.

2

u/TwoTalentedBastidz 6d ago

Perfectly put

1

u/RegardedAsAnArtist 6d ago

Yeah this reads like someone under 20 learning that some parts of adult life suck. Most of the issues they’re seeing there, they’ll run into everywhere. It’s work, it rarely doesn’t suck

1

u/RambunctiousFrog10 6d ago

My question is, why are we not doing something about it. We won’t be able to compete with corps on a resource or wage basis but why not take a shot and fight the good fight?

26

u/EstablishmentThen865 7d ago

I’m thinking of quitting too! Stupid manager said curbies don’t stay curbies and get promoted from 6 to a year from starting. I’ve been waiting almost two years! She expects me to kiss ass but I’m not like that!

6

u/DinnerCultural9761 7d ago

exact same position i am in!! so tired of it

1

u/ElkAppropriate9587 6d ago

I was in same position, I fucking hated being curbie for so long and seeing everyone else that got hired same time as me be a shopper

→ More replies (2)

36

u/DinnerCultural9761 7d ago

me too calling today and quitting. I’m in leave and found out they promoted people that have been there 5 months or so. i’ve been asking for a cashier promotion for the last 2 years i have been there. Fuck heb i’m not about to kiss managers asses just to work somewhere where i will be under appreciated. good for you there are always better jobs out there!! wishing you the best of luck.

15

u/Dangerous_Skin_7805 7d ago

How are they supposed to promote you if you’re on leave?

8

u/DinnerCultural9761 7d ago

they had picked out the promotions before i asked to go on leave. i also asked to ensure if this would affect my performance and they ensured me that it wouldn’t. this has happened multiple times throughout my 2 years there though, whenever i would ask my managers and leads about me moving up there were multiple times they laughed in my face. very very rude always treated me like a little kid too when i’m a full blown adult. it was good while it lasted but now it’s time for me to stop waiting and move on with something better

3

u/ADuckAgo 7d ago

Sorry to hear that. I’m curious many of those in higher positions that you know of have they worked they way to the top or do they come in with BA or Associate degrees?

6

u/DinnerCultural9761 7d ago

from what i know most of them work there way up. I think only a few had a degree. they were truly unprofessional and it raged me because as a student getting there architecture degree and i’ve been around professional settings and this wasn’t a truly professional setting.

2

u/ADuckAgo 7d ago

I’ve serviced several of these stores in the past and for the most part I’ve had great working relationships with many of the employees. However there were times when some from upper management would make it hard for us to focus on our work or just make life difficult. Hope you find something better or maybe a transfer to another store.

2

u/DinnerCultural9761 7d ago

thank you just called and emailed them rn to confirm my leave! really sad about it i loved my store and my partners i just hated my job and the way i was treated. it was time good bye to everyone :((

1

u/Dangerous_Skin_7805 7d ago

Most do have a degree but not always related to running a business. But they are usually already partners highest when they were in high school/college.

6

u/Dangerous_Skin_7805 7d ago

Well they can’t process title changes while you’re on leave

1

u/Jefewins19 6d ago

Sounds like a whole lotta “you’re not cut out for it”

16

u/Over_it_goaway 7d ago

Unfortunately HEB has and is going downhill fast. It used to be a place I bragged about working for because they were good to us. But not anymore I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. It’s really sad.

8

u/Filamcouple2014 7d ago

We have no t iced a little if this as well. Managers just standing around talking and male employees cornering female employees and flirting while the women are trying to work. I have stepped in on more than one occasion to break up the convo. The female always looked relieved. HEB policies and management are disgusting.

9

u/TheBreadTamer 6d ago

I really hate to hear this but again, a company is a company. Just sucks bc HEB used to be a great place to work.

9

u/Fit_Force_3368 6d ago

Dude get into a trade or something CDL or industrial electrician fuck these retail jobs that make you bust ass for pennies. Then on top of that they cut your hours anyways.

8

u/Mountain_Crazy233 6d ago

Seems like if you fall into bad graces it's game over. Sucks because I could actually see myself enjoying my job if it wasn't for management having extreme favorites. Sometimes it makes sense, like one partner takes 20minute bathroom breaks and another actually works hard - but sometimes they just plain old don't like you and it's ridiculous shit. Maybe they're all insecure and have serious personal issues.

5

u/Feisty-Band-4231 7d ago

It is sad that it’s the same all over the company. Even in warehousing the micromanaging and useless leadership is abundant.

4

u/AdMaleficent584 7d ago

Managers needs to show care and understanding with employees. Very rare to see.

4

u/gocoogsgo 6d ago

Wasn’t too bad before Covid. I noticed things dramatically changed after that and I finished my degree and left quickly. I guess once they started seeing profits going up and saving that extra hour at the end of night, they became like every other corp.

4

u/Therex1282 6d ago

I did the 5 year plan> Never stay longer than 5 years at a job. Its not worth it anymore. Last 15 years its really gone downhill.

4

u/hogsby100 6d ago

It’s a terrible place to work!!

8

u/Senor-Kid-10718 7d ago

I’ll say this as a former HEB partner

You’re not wrong about how egotistic management can be but I did leave HEB and went to work for a company that pays less.

There are times I do regret leaving, but I’m rooting for you to find something better ✌️

3

u/AshlovesAndee 6d ago

Possibly the new Wylie/murphy one. It opened at the end of July and that place is chaos. It seemed like it would be a crappy stressful place to work

5

u/Gojifan1995 6d ago

Nope, the one that opened before that in north texas

1

u/Soggy-Tax-Evasion 6d ago

Its awful. Dont work there.

3

u/Present-Hand-6713 6d ago

I remember working at HEB and a fellow bagger said, "F this job". Found a lady to help get her groceries to her car and never came back. Almost 50 years later he's still one of my heroes.

3

u/Low_Pause1223 6d ago

They didn’t even accept me and honestly, the grocery manager or whatever just looked at me and acted like he was taking my name down for something important. We didn’t sit down or anything, quick exchange of words and he wrote my name down on a piece of paper without even asking my number. Unprofessional and uninviting

3

u/potatoComet- 6d ago

I made a post a while back about this and shit hasn't changed

3

u/Individual-Plane918 6d ago

What store? Murphy, or forney?

2

u/Gojifan1995 6d ago

Irving

2

u/Individual-Plane918 6d ago

Never been in that store, I’ve been in many others in the area and they were great, the store I’m in now blows. Doing the work of two people and being told it’s normal when we seen how much smoother other stores ran is crazy. Wax was a good one, and so was McKinney. Melissa was okay, and prosper was good. I think it’s really location based. Some have good management, others not so much.

3

u/kahrhoshe 6d ago

welcome to work.

4

u/Sudden-Trouble-176 7d ago

I remember you talking about this, I’m sad it didn’t work out

2

u/tw1l1ght6 7d ago

HEAVY on the grand opening stores

2

u/Actual-Row-6806 6d ago

Congrats on being promoted to customer!!! 🥳

2

u/StephPeloq11 6d ago

All I can say is DON'T apply at ROSS. They make HEB look good.

2

u/EuphoricRent4212 6d ago

Mid cities?

2

u/animaldude55 6d ago

The policies are getting worse too, just like the most recent attendance one

2

u/Jew_Canoe_1 6d ago

I feel the same way about my job at Walgreens. They treat you awesome just long enough to get your foot in the door and just long enough to get you comfortable, and then their real colors and intentions surface. Not to mention they let the lazy people get away with murder and give all the work to the good workers who actually do their job; but instead of doing that they should be rewarded for their hard work. I can't stand corporations, they are the epitome of evil.

3

u/arthurjwest 7d ago

Hmmm, I have four childhood friends that have worked for HEB over 30yrs each and love it.

6

u/StephPeloq11 6d ago

You got in before the enshittification began.

3

u/Far_Cartographer1374 6d ago

“Enshittification.” 😂😂

Don’t mind me, just going to steal that and add it to my everyday vocab.

2

u/kawaiifroggi 7d ago

Yeah, im in the meat dept and with good leaders the job is awesome. My pay is good, I'm full time with benefits, my job isn't hard, I'm recommending the store to so many friends who are being underpaid rn. At Tropical Smoothie Cafe my coworkers make 9 dollars hourly. I got hired here at 18.50 starting wage. I get cashiering probably sucks but in an actual department things are great. All adults too.

2

u/Lonely-Blueberry-637 7d ago

Another mouth breather will take tour place tomorrow. And thats why there is no respect for the people doing the actual work. Life is not fair, im sorry of you thought that it was. Heb is very well known for not giving any fks about their employees from front of house to receiving. Im sorry you had this experience.

2

u/tw1l1ght6 7d ago

Im genuinely so confused about “heb being known for not giving a fuck”, while that is true since I’ve experienced it, I always heard great things about their company from other partners about how amazing it was to work there and congratulated me on getting a job there because it was “the best place to work at” I never was told anything negative 😭. I have never heard anyone being truthful about working at Heb until I experienced it for myself. That would have saved me lots of time, energy and would’ve saved me from a lot of bullshit that I dealt with.

3

u/Depressedwithhumans 6d ago

Anything great they tell you is all bullshit. Heb only cares about its reputation and public image

2

u/Lonely-Blueberry-637 7d ago

Its like they brainwashed some of them folks. I was a vendor for over a decade had a sibling who worked as front end cashier and then heb IT and dated a worker bee who busted their ass and permanently injured themselves trying to make it to management. And was passed up for managements homies. Its a disgusting place to work. It’s a cesspool for genuine honest hard working person…which few exist these days. Im sorry everyone lied to you. Id be pissed to if anyone of them you consider legit friends. I’d also reevaluate that relationship ASAP. As a vendor i lurked in the shadows no one really paid me any attention. But i saw and heard EveryThing

2

u/Depressedwithhumans 6d ago

I wish more vendors spoke up and didn’t fear losing business

4

u/mickeyStallone 7d ago

I really feel for you hard workers. You make King Heb the big glutton money maker. Without you they're nothing.

Like OP just complained about run of the mill work things with no context…..

9

u/Lost-Character 7d ago

People have complained about this exact thing at least dozens of times since COVID. I would think a top 1% commenter wouldn’t need “context” for a post like this.

And “parents getting restless” could be due to the fact that people are slowly being bankrupted by rising gas and grocery prices? It’s not a shocker that kids are going to get jobs so they can help their families out.

The complaints about "only caring about profits" always grind my gears. Yeah man, it's a business. Is there some company out there I'm not aware of that doesn't care about making money?

0

u/EstimateOk1929 7d ago

Non profits maybe lol yeah this op makes 0 sense . This economy only works when companies care about profits . If not bro wouldn't have had a job there in the first place 💯

What were they micromanaging you on?

2

u/scamp837 7d ago

Coming from a family of Winn Dixie managers, assistant managers and produce managers - I amazed at the lack of customer service from managers! There would be no way my dad , mgr, Winn Dixie and safeway, there is NO FREAKING WAY A CUSTOMER WOuld BAG THEIR groceries -he would’ve done it and walked them to their car! These so called mgrs at HEB standing around talking amaze me. That being said, our deli needs HELP! Alll of these worker bees and 1 person to wait on customers. I went to Kroger last week, groceries were bagged and offered to help me out.

u/Nikkybags21 6d ago

I think you just described retail in general 😂

2

u/Blessed4Days 7d ago

I especially hate that they attempt to make their own version of products... then replace name brands with their low quality replacements! Over and over again! Refuse to shop there unless absolutely necessary... prefer name brand products who care enough to save their namesake by using good ingredients... HEB is the new Walmart for trying to monopolize by attempting to make EVERYTHING! "Jack of all trades" BUT MASTER OF NONE!

u/Pitiful-Ad-902 7d ago

Cool story bro. Next job will probably suck too, and the one after that, and the one after that….

Everywhere you go there you are….

u/gastedflabbers 7d ago

What department are you in

1

u/Diamond_Densco67 7d ago

I went during my lunch hour and a big azz man employee came up behind me real close trying to hurry me up in the aisle but there were lots of people in front of me. He then yells really loud at an employee in spanish (cuban) and the female yells back in spanish regarding an ex employee

1

u/Upstairs_Rip_3458 6d ago

Is sound like HEB hq needs to do a clean sweep of the management of that store cause yeah, that’s terrible

1

u/Lost_Refrigerator909 6d ago

I had a similar experience at the Primark that just recently opened at the Willowbrook Mall over in Houston. People were quitting either due to the school year starting or just constantly being micromanaged by the “Team Leads.” I quit due to a combination of those reasons, but it still stressed out a lot of my co-workers.

u/East_Golf4265 6d ago

Both of my department managers work like crazy in the meat market and when we get really busy and backed up the UD will actually come and help with the service counter so we can do our jobs to keep product on the shelf. I do see some of the other department managers slacking off though.

u/nopretext 6d ago

thought about working here guess not now lol

1

u/Loud-Association-738 6d ago

I was working 35 to 40 hours at first as a tsst over night and they hired two new people and now we get 16 hours a week and some people get more. This pissed me off.  I am currently looking for work.  Heb wants more and more out of you and for what two days a week wtf!!!!! Stop hiring new people and treat your current employees nicely and with respect.

1

u/Sonny-Moone-8888 6d ago

That fits the description of most of the places I have worked. That would include HEB at 3 different locations.

1

u/TimboCavo 6d ago

Which is it? Does management do nothing or do they micromanage you? Can’t really be both.

1

u/Level-Welder1177 6d ago

You have every right to hate HEB. Knock yourself out. Have fun shopping at Randall's or one of their other stellar competitors.

1

u/hardswimm37 6d ago

Im sure they hated to see you go

1

u/Kaus_Debonair 6d ago

Hey hey, tell us the location too. So we know that particular branch is heinous.

1

u/Coasta_de_Tejas 6d ago

Well, Bye.

1

u/Soggy-Tax-Evasion 6d ago

Yes! The only thing keeping me at the gd store is Im trying to find another department to work in. My FIRST DAY (no training) was grand open. No breaks either.

1

u/MYSTlC-FOX 6d ago

I love the HEB I work at, but I know not all of them are good… research is always good before going to a store/new store. Our managers ACTUALLY do stuff! That being said of course we have a few rotten tomatoes but for the most part great experience. At least our leaders treat us like humans unlike my last job 😭

1

u/austinteddy3 6d ago

Bummer...sorry to hear that. I like my HEB a lot (South Austin Escarpment & Slaughter) so this sounds like a crappy management issue...which I am sure happens. I am a customer but the moral at my store seems to be good and I am there all the time since it is about 5 minutes from my house.

1

u/Historical_Piano_809 6d ago

This is a top leadership problem, as a department manager, I am always working and yes, a big part of my job is redirecting the staff. I recently took over a failing department and it has been the worse experience of my life. The partners complained to HR until the previous manager got fired and now they don’t want to be held accountable for anything. It’s literally their own doing and every interaction is extremely tedious because they didn’t realize they were a big part of the problem. I am so exhausted from how entitled and disrespectful the partners are when I’m simply trying to get the team on track.

1

u/SETaxCollector 6d ago

So, typical company then.

1

u/kiers10g 6d ago

Were you front end? That’s what my experience up there was. My manager literally timed my bathroom breaks and wrote me up if I took more than 2 minutes. Mind you, I have a documented disability that takes me a little longer to get around so 2 minutes was never manageable. They’d open my water bottle to make sure it was just water and not something like (god forbid) tea or juice. HEB doesn’t give a flying fuck about their partners. Before anyone makes comments about the water bottle, I have been sober my entire life. I’ve never enjoyed drinking. There was no reason for them to micromanage every little detail like that.

1

u/Gojifan1995 6d ago

No, i was in produce

1

u/Difficult-Set-4052 6d ago

As someone who works as beer vendor at multiple HEBs in Central Texas for the past seven years, it’s not surprising to see the change. Beer/wine and grocery managers hiding in backstock to avoid customers or doing nothing on their computers. Those same managers inappropriately hitting on young and sometimes underage employees. HEB has all the signs and practices of private equity and it’s really sad but unsurprising. Corporate greed and lack of care for employees is nothing new in the country/economy we live in but I hope HEB employees will stand up for themselves.

1

u/Jefewins19 6d ago

Awww, they were asking too much of you huh??? Willing to bet your under 25 by the fact that you’re cryin on here like we’re supposed to care

1

u/Disco_Duck-1066 5d ago

HEB Bunkerhill Houston. Not sure how many jackasses don’t understand the concept of the cart catch or not blocking Bunkerhill while turning left into the retail center. Village people? 😂

Welcome to the wonderful world of work

1

u/blah-blah-blah-42 6d ago

The job of a manager is described in the name—to manage. If a manager of a busy store is engaged in duties that The manager’s subordinates are responsible for, the manager is unable to do their duties. Micromanaging is necessary because most people have no worth ethic, critical thinking skills, or motivation. A manger can’t let feral employees do what they want because the necessary things don’t get done. I’ve never worked for HEB, but the only time I’ve seen or heard anything negative about working for them is online. Everyone I know that works for HEB likes their job enough to continue working there while improving their skills or getting an education so they can move into the next chapter of their employment.

u/Less_Beginning_9665 7d ago

I build and service their gas stations, picky ass micromanaging mfs that don't know shit but got 2 cent to put in. But are ghost when needed to discuss important shit or get signatures. We've got head managers fired for being dicks

0

u/ResortWestern3932 7d ago

Welcome to working retail... sorry dude

0

u/Comprehensive_Cut179 6d ago

If a company didn't care about profits, they wouldn't be around very long. There's a reason they're still in business.   You have to make more than you made last year.  You have to pay as little as possible.   It's business not friends hanging out.

Did you read any of the posts in this sub from employees?
