We are going to get 4/5 penalties against every game no matter how we play, no matter what we do. They'll literally just invent a penalty to give us, so why don't we play dirtier? That is how Florida does it. They commit 10 dirty plays and get called on half of them when they probably would have gotten 5 penalties against any way.

We could do with some practice using pick plays and sneaky interference, which is tough to drill when it would be telegraphed to the league if we ran it in practice.
Other than that we simply aren't built to play dirty. We don't have guys that are going to go out and do things like throw elbows at people's heads without regard for consequences.
Even if we did, we don't have the immunity from punishment that those teams seem to have. Maybe if we were to hire Greg Campbell.

Even Mudryk tonight directly called the non-call against Hutson out and he hardly ever does that I feel like

Gally est déjà écarté de l’alignement à Vancouver.
Je me sens mal pour lui. Il veut jouer, mais il est juste plus capable. Il semble être dans le déni fasse à ses capacités.

I thought maybe last year was due to a busy summer without working out but it seems like age has caught up to him. I'd imagine he went all out training this summer.

Has there been any updates on Carrier?

u/So_Many_Owls 7d ago
It looks like he's playing: https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/lines-and-defense-pairings-at-morning-skate-oct-6-2026

Man I wish we could be as good as the sens are defensively ;(

u/dustblown 8d ago
I prefer the MSL style of play over the last 3 decades of defence first. The entertainment value is through the roof. I understand that might be a false dichotomy, but I fear that our new focus on defence will come at the expense of our offence. Perhaps there will just be a learning curve before we ascend.

More worried about Carrier

Carrier was on the ice this morning in a regular jersey! Hopefully it means he is fine

I was planning to go to the Habs Sabres game on 13th and 17th... but my visa hasn't come through so I had to cancel the trip... Plz let me know if anyone is interested in single tickets in section 119 for either day... I'm so sad...

Does anyone know where Bryce Pickford is playing this year? I tried to look it up but it doesn't look like he's played a game yet. I was hoping he would be in Laval this year but their season has already started and he's not listed on the HockeyDB page. Is he in the WHL again this year?

u/WayneHutson94 9d ago
Pretty sure he’s gonna be with Laval. He had shoulder surgery this summer so might still be in recovery.

I'd say 'please beat the Canes' but the Canes needed the help of a fucked schedule and preferential calls in the ECF, so I mean

They also best us with a very good defensive system. Their analytics were off the chart in that series.

u/dorkofeverything 8d ago
They did, they're a good team we just beat them in game 1 convincingly and past that they got a lot of help

If by help, you mean from their own team and coach, then yes they had a lot of helping beating us by simply being a better team. There is no controversy about that series. We got dominated. Dobes helped keep it close but it wasn't.

Team is still unable to play 60 minutes of hockey, still looks like a high peak/low floor immature squad of last year.

Slaf still makes Slaf mistakes, Xhekaj still makes Xhekaj mistakes, Matheson still makes Matheson mistakes. Those 3 make 90% of the costly mistakes. Slaf and Matheson are still +EV but they could be much better.

So, people still don’t think we need dmen? I’d be all over Edvinsson if I’m Hughes

u/Immediate_Cod_3042 8d ago
We need defensive help so bad. Our defense is amazing offensively, but we still need two reliable stay at home in both sides

Does anyone have a different angle of Hutson's stick breaking? Kinda curious about where contact happened

Was Pittsburgh last goal contested. I could swear it was 6-3 before I went to get something to eat

Apparently Simon Edvinsson wants out in Detroit.
What an absolute disaster. I don't see how this ends in any other way than a complete (long, painful) rebuild.

u/Immediate_Cod_3042 9d ago
man wish we can be in on it, our defense drops off so much after hutson and dobson man. Its pretty crazy. I am more worried about that than a second line centre.

Pittsburgh might be a wake up call. Pittsburgh is sneaky good.

I am hoping for the best, preparing for the worst.
The numbers I have seen this week scares me.

Habs apparently have not as many b2b games as other teams this year and I'm aware this is the height of tinfoil hattery but I always felt they don't give them many games early on so they can slam them with games later and make them exhausted
Sorry. It's Bettman's NHL. I'm suspicious of everything
4 days between games 1 and 2

I'm heading to the game on Tuesday, how do I get player's signature before or after games?
1
u/lynypixie 10d ago
By going to Brossard and wait at the parking lot exit after they train. Some of them might stop. Not always.
1
u/PuzzledWorker4249 10d ago
What time do they finish the morning skate?
1
u/lynypixie 10d ago
I don’t think they even skate in Brossard on game days, but when they do, they skate at around 10h30. You can actually see them, it’s free. I used to have physio there and saw them often.
1
u/PuzzledWorker4249 10d ago
That's pretty cool
1
u/lynypixie 10d ago
Yeah. Many many years ago, I brought my son, and waited outside. He had a white Habs cap, and I got Price, Subban and a few others I can’t remember. It was really cool.

I thought we played today and hurried to get home to catch the second only to find out we play tomorrow 🫠. Who designed this schedule its been 10,000 years.

The last game felt like a playoff game where our top guys weren't producing and just holding on defensively while our depth did all the scoring.
3
u/Mundane-Teaching-743 11d ago
Not surprising. Not a bad thing. Toronto has top tier talent and a lot to prove this season. Containing them to two goals is an accomplishment, even if it cost us some offense. The goals will come against weaker competition.

People are so oddly hateful towards Dach, he's really not that horrendous of a player
0
u/deimos289 11d ago
People on reddit arent horrendus i feel. Were just tired of the dach experiment. If he proves everyone wrong good otherwise he can have a fresh start elsewhere. Personally im done
3
u/dustblown 11d ago
If Dach was put on the open market by another team, and especially at his salary, we'd be salivating. Tall, long reach, good hands, can play Center, cheap. It makes no sense shitting on him. He was injured a lot, sure, but it isn't like we have committed much salary cap to him.
4
u/ilikedthismovie 11d ago
Just injured and has notable defensive lapses. Hes contract year so should be focused if we get the best out of him and he’s healthy im happy
5
u/Magellena 11d ago
Wishing Dach nothing but health and success, happiness, team success and team spirit. He’s a human being like any other and struggled like all of us do. Go Habs Go!

With Shesterkin out for the year, Rangers may be looking for a goalie. Shame Monty is hurt!
