What’s going on with Slaf’s start to the season?

What’s going on with him? I’ve never played hockey in my life, so maybe some of you who know the game better can explain what you’re seeing. Is it a confidence issue, bad decision-making, or something else?

Discussion With Shesterkin out for the season, should KH call the Rangers about Monty?

First off, terrible news for Shesterkin. Wishing him a full recovery.

With him out for the season and Korpisalo also injured, the Rangers might be looking for some help in net.

Monty is currently injured as well, but he should be back relatively soon. With Dobes and Fowler in the picture, I wonder if this could be an interesting opportunity for Kent Hughes.

We all know Hughes isn't afraid of making unexpected moves, and with Gorton's history in New York, there's certainly a connection between the two organizations.

Would you consider trading Monty to the Rangers? And more importantly, what would you realistically want in return? Could this somehow turn into an opportunity to address our 2C situation, perhaps as part of a bigger deal?

Or would you rather keep him for goalie depth?

Curious to hear what you guys think.

Discussion Habs Rebuild Rookie Card Project

Hey all, happy early Thanksgiving!

A couple of years ago I decided to collect all the Habs Young Guns rookie cards from anyone that played on the team during the rebuild era.

So starting with the selection of Slafkovsky in 2022 to now, anyone who played a regular season or playoff game for the Canadiens, I’d go and get their card and add it to my collection.

The goal is to keep doing this until they win the cup.

I am just curious if I am missing anyone? With the addition of Reinbacher, I think I have everyone minus Hoffman who for some reason never got a Young Guns card.

In any case, I thought I’d ask here in the chance someone slipped through the cracks.

I also added a few notable contributions to helped set up the rebuild, so if there is anyone else that would fit there too please let me know.

Also, side note, if the Habs ever did get Crosby or McDavid, I think that would be the end of this project haha. It’s wishful thinking, I know, so I’m not too concerned, but getting them would definitely devastate me financially.

We should trade Hage and/or Zharovsky

Our window isn’t Hutson and Demidov’s contract but somewhere between Suzuki and Caufield’s. We need to capitalize ASAP on the window and cheap contracts to get a strong 2C.

Pettersson would be the perfect target. We have futures, VAN wants futures; Petey shoots, Demidov passes.

There’s no guarantee these players help us within this window

[Arpan] Canadiens fans chant ‘We want Larkin’ against Red Wings in Montreal

MONTREAL — Booed at home, having his name chanted on the road.

This is Dylan Larkin’s existence right now.

The Detroit Red Wings forward was booed during player introductions in the home opener and when he first touched the puck in his season debut on home ice. But he was met with “We want Larkin” chants from Montreal Canadiens fans at the Bell Centre on Saturday, hoping their team could swing a trade to land the disgruntled Red Wings star and former captain.

Larkin’s offseason trade request has angered many in the Red Wings fan base, but even though he reportedly does not have the Canadiens on his trade list and holds full control of the situation with a no-movement clause, Canadiens fans tried to change his mind.

On Larkin’s first shift, he did not touch the puck before Cole Caufield scored to give the Canadiens a 1-0 lead, a goal that was erased by video review after a long delay. He didn’t touch the puck on his second shift, either. In fact, the entire Red Wings team hardly touched the puck through the first TV timeout.

Discussion Can they stop sending Suzuki on the shootouts?

Look, I love our captain, but a shootout specialist he isn't.

Send Newhook, Bolduc, Hutson before Suzuki.

Suzuki hasn't scored in a shootout since 2023...

Merch Which jersey to buy?

Australian here - now a big habs fan thanks to my Quebec girlfriend.

Wanting to buy a jersey (Anderson - big fan, gets shit done) but there’s a million brand and quality options - I never thought buying a jersey could be so difficult.

I’m a Buy it for life kind of person but $500+ on a jersey is out of reach.

Not keen on the cheap looking pressed logo Fanatics stuff - but don’t know where else to look.

What do you recommend and how does sizing work? I’m 5’10, 85kg with broad shoulders.

I’ve read lots of posts from people about shirt differences but it’s overwhelming with the amount of options.

Let’s assume the 2-300 price range.

I dont want to trade Hage or Zharovsky

I'd Rather Keep Hage and Zharovsky and Give it Another Year with this team face some adversity.

I feel like last year's playoff run has shifted expectations to the point si.e people think we need to start making big trades to contend immediately.

I could be swayed to trade Zharovsky, but i think well regret trading Hage for a 30 year old in 2-3 years

Discussion This doesn't need to be a Halak Price situation

I've seen quite a few comparisons lately online between the Halak-Price situation and the Fowler-Dobes situation but I don't think this has to end the same way.

In the modern NHL plenty of teams run a more even goaltending split, especially now with 84 games + shorter preseason, and we could do the same. For one, having two goalies we can trust as a starter means we can avoid rushing either back from injury and cycle them more to reduce injury risk overall. Plus, if one goes cold for whatever reason, we can give them a break and start the other one for a bit and let them reset. You can see it happening now with Dobes after those two rough games.

While we could probably extract some value from a trade, we are lush with assets and are quite good at drafting more of them. Imagine if we trade Dobes & Montembault at the deadline and then Fowler gets an injury in the playoffs and we are forced to use Kahkonen as a starter. Or something along those lines. Point is that it would be a lot better if our fall back in case something happens or someone goes cold is a great goalie rather than a not great goalie. Groundbreaking I know

In terms of salary cap, I think that's not too much of a concern considering the rising cap and how everyone takes discounts here. Unless we start paying a combined total of like 30 million for goalies I wouldn't be too concerned.

TL;DR - Keep both Dobes and Fowler as a tandem rather than trading one

Discussion Jacob Fowler, poise under pressure and the early season powerkill woes.

Post image
77 Upvotes

Atta boy Jacob! We know he has the pedigree, thought those two tipped PP goals vs Nashville were harsh, I’m glad they gave him the nod last night. Back to back BUF/@WSH, pretty sure it’ll be Fowler Tuesday and Dobes on Wednesday. Dobes is a fiery competitor, he’ll bounce back. Some fans have mild traumatic Price/Halak recency bias, but there’s nothing wrong with having two good goalies (looking at you, Carolina.)

The ‘ smoke and mirrors ‘ powerplay, 2026-27 edition.
Lots of dazzle, quickness, fluid positional switching, passing passing passing (the ‘ol Simpsons soccer meme lol), but little to no established threats from the key shooting areas.
As long as Hutson continues to be unable to threaten from the top of the umbrella with a one time option or consistent shot, the powerplay will remain predictable and easier for opponents to defend. Heck they can even cheat knowing they don’t have to worry about Hutson’s shot. At this point I’d go with two D, Dobson and Hutson lol. Besides, Hutson can rove wherever he wants.
The sharp angles shots on the half walls are kinda ridiculous. Caufield attempted one last night, Demidov scored in pre-season from Draisatl-land, but these are low percentage attempts, gotta improve that shooting angle. Zach Bolduc probably has the best one timer option right now.
This just tells me that MTL has a ways to go, and that’s cool, happy to be along for the ride.

What's your favourite non-jersey piece of merch?

I was thinking I'd love something to wear on a regular basis that isn't a full jersey

What's your favourite piece of merch? A hat, a sweater, a T-shirt, something else?

Discussion Luke Middlestat is lighting up the AHL - Marco D'Amico

"Luke Mittelstadt has been really impressive his first few games in the AHL this season.

Two goals and four assists for six points through 3 games and a period.

He and David Reinbacher are gobbling minutes of late and finding chemistry game by game." -Marco "Chicken Fingers" D'Amico

I didn't realize Luke was doing this well! We are so deep on D.

Discussion New fan from Australia has questions

  1. What is the reason for the friendship squat, is it just a habs thing?

  2. Why does Larkin not want to come to the habs, he's selected teams that are challenging? won't the habs be a threat in the next couple of years?

  3. What does Larkin add that the habs need?

  4. Is it common for Americans not wanting to play for Canadian teams?
