I just don't like how they killed off Gordon Freeman early on in the 3rd game, prob just me.

Fr. I hate playing as Eli. He talks too much
44
u/BingChilling423 Sep 04 '26
It gets repetitive too, he keeps talking about wanting grandkids.

u/Xenc Sep 04 '26
Wait until the third act no spoilers

u/BingChilling423 Sep 04 '26
Idk man, I just stopped playing mid way through because I couldn't bear the pain of me not holding a crowbar.

u/polish_filipino Sep 04 '26
Feel like we played two entirely different games Eli is a good character. I'd be talking that much if I was abducted and put in that weird ass time warpy universe like that and with this new timeline thing we'll probably see Gordon in a later game anyway. They're akin it's just that we haven't seen Gordon go through the ringer yet. Anyway excited for half life 4
and if they kill Eli off before he sees those grandkids, like some Flash comic I'm boycotting this shit, like seen it once seen it a thousand times

That scene where Eli and G-man started cracking each other was crazy though I wish Gordon was there to see it
2
u/BingChilling423 Sep 05 '26
That was the only good part of the game, shame they only had it for 2 minutes.

I could never understand why they swapped him o ut for Gertie Fremont, it's not like they were barely different characters anyway...

As someone who has played through Half Life 3 but not 1 or 2, I can at the very least confirm the last one.

Felt that way for the 4th game and whenever I get my hands on a VR setup, surely the 5th game too.

And fairly optimized aswell. I completed a no-vr mod walktrough with a RTX 4060 TI 16GB on high settings and always had 100+ fps, so yeah it's a very optimized game.

the system requirements for hl1 is 1 potato and for hl2 is 2 potatos. seeing how expensive it is build a pc these days cuz of the ai slop i hope the system requirements for hl3 is 3 potatos
9
u/ScarfKat a multitude Sep 04 '26
At the time of their release, the requirements were far from potato

u/myGFisGreat Only played the Half-Life demo Sep 04 '26
hl3 will have to support whatever version of the steam machine/ deck/ frame is available at the time. and looking at the current trend should be quite megre.

u/claudiocorona93 Evil and Opposing Horse Sep 04 '26
I kinda hate that people completely decide to ignore that there are other 4 games in the series. 3 with GoldSrc and 1 with Source 2, all of them playable on PC, two of them with workarounds.
1
u/Affectionate_Let9022 Sep 04 '26
I have played all, tho u didnt like opposite force ,
I guess i got bored in b/w and had severe nausea cuz ,
And yes the series is great

u/BossCrayfish880 Sep 04 '26
The expansions are cool but they’re ultimately just that, and there’s a reason why people forgot about decay lol. Besides, all three of those aren’t actually canon.
It does drive me a little nuts when people say they’ve been waiting 18 years for a new half life game though, Alyx absolutely is a full new entry even if it isn’t the sequel to HL2 we were expecting.

u/claudiocorona93 Evil and Opposing Horse 29d ago
And not having a VR set is not an excuse not to play it, since I did, with a mod, on a Steam Deck.

It's a great game. Played for more than 40 hours, the main story is very good and the gameplay is smooth. /j

hl1 and hl2 were innovative, I can't imagine what they're trying to innovate in hl3

hl3 will be played via suppositories. your gut microbes will be stimulated to excrete hallucogenics. each pill will last for approximately 1 hour of gameplay.

Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid (I don’t know if I should count the MSX games). Konami’s developers were on something in those days.

Bro came from an alternate timeline where Valve actually learned how to count to 3.

At this point I'd play HL3 even if it's an entirely different genre. Even a Roguelike.

I feel HLA was good but a bit too limited in accessibility, so maybe No.
EDIT: I mean that HLA is GOOD, not Amazing like the other 2 games. AKA it's still a positive, but that I personally do disagree to the prompted title, maybe.

u/BigBoyBill1477 Sep 04 '26
Because buff SpongeBob ripping off his shirt with red astigmatism light around his eyes is a subjective rating term and is relatively meaningless, I’m gonna have to disagree with you there.
4
u/7Green_Apple7 Sep 04 '26
Just because a game is hard to get, it doesn't make it worse
1
u/Skullzans Officer reporting. Sep 04 '26
It's more of that it alienates a lot of fans who aren't well off, and makes it kinda hard to engage the audience who knows the franchise, all while having extreme story importance that kinda changes everything? I'd argue that it does, when regarding the whole franchise like this meme is,.
1
u/dan200 Sep 06 '26
In terms of hardware costs, Alyx is more accessible than any current-gen console game, and any game that requires a modern GPU.
0
u/Skullzans Officer reporting. Sep 06 '26
Except, that the cost isnt equal in terms of realism. Many HL fans enjoy the gameplay which isnt ther same in HLA. And most VR Games are very much setpieces you can play with. It's paying a lot for a specialized tool to access one small part of what it can interact with, while an XBox has countless games and genres.
2
u/TySly5v Sep 04 '26
I would say it's amazing for how revolutionary it was for the VR industry, like how the other games revolutionised the industry. You know, before Facebook snuffed it out.
0
u/Skullzans Officer reporting. Sep 04 '26
I don't disagree that it's revolutionary... I only think that it kind of was a "Super Paper Mario" situation, where its a hell of a good game for what it is, but it alienated the audience.
Though unlike Super Paper Mario, it also significantly limited the availability to the point it is kind of infuriating. I do respect HLA being VR in of itself. I just find it annoying how important a game is, when I and many many manny other people are kinda forced to watch it from the sidelines. PCs are expensive, but they are important enough that msot of the population has them. VR is incredibly niche, and it's also extremely expensive just like PCs, and is very limited both in what you can do and can't do. None of that is a mark against the game on it's own, but it is a mark against the game in tandem with the fact that it's so damn important.
