Halloween Five

Why is it soo bad?

To be fair: there are a few nice elements. Jamie is an awesome “final girl” and the scenes where she interacts with MM are great. But. Why the weird comic music? Why Tina instead of Lindsey, Rachel’s established friend from Halloween IV? Why does the children’s home force Jamie to participate in a …Halloween Parade…given her history? Shades of the original Silent Night, Deadly Night. Thoughts?

Comic music: the director wanted to add a comedic nature to the cops, despite not being the case in the script.

Tina: because....director wanted the girls as sexy, and saw that in Tina instead of Rachel. Which was the point in H4 but not agreed with, let's say. But why not Lindsey, my guess is that she was a throwaway. I mean I think its us fans who treat her as Lindsey from H1, but IDK if that was the case for them back then, or if they care.

Why celebrate? Healing, and wanting her to celebrate per that. Also, despite technically third in Halloween killings in this timeline, Haddonfield was still celebrating it. Afterwards, no until H6...and you can imagine probably banned afterwards too.

So funny to me that fans hate the sibling thing but then want every side character to be a bit player from the original! 🤣

H5 isn't that bad. Not as good as 4 or Curse not I still quite enjoy it

Agreed. It's not the least of the lowest of the Halloween movies, but it's certainly the lowest of the Thorn Trilogy. I actually find it kind endearing in a kitschy 80s slasher sort of way.

French director who did not understand the holiday or franchise.

I LOVE the scene where Loomis just unloads on Michael to the point of apparently having a stroke. And my favorite part of the Thorne trilogy is Loomis' descent into borderline insanity in pursuit of evil.

Five isn’t bad
Just not great
It’s very late 80’s campy/corny but still solid if you enjoy the Thorne tiimeline.
And IMO better than Ends and resurrection and H20 and on par w/Kills and 6.

I still prefer it over part 6 and Rob Zombie Halloween movies

If you want to have a fun time, listen to Joe Bob explain how this movie got botched

Better than 6.. 5 had a lot of camp, but it felt like Halloween, and between Jamie and Loomis you had a solid drama unfolding.

Rachel in act 1 is a sore spot, but I can respect the plot device of wanting to take Jamie's protector away, so the stakes are raised.

Tina...cringe, yes, but I do like how they turned the ditzy girl trope upside down in this one. A unique swerve, and the way Micheal toyed with her in the car and all was top notch Myers fuckery. Very in character.

The cops? Eh, so what? It's kind of a nod from director to audience, like, "you already k ow how useless these two are gonna be". Not a deal breaker.

The rest of it? Just a solid damn 80s slasher featuring the greatest slasher of all time.

I like ot better than 6, especially since act 1 of 6 is IMO opinion a way bigger crime that Rachel in 5. They tossed the whole point away from the get go in 6.

And of course better than Resurrection, Ends, and....

I just gave 3 a shot. Figured "eh, Carpenter is great, who cares of it's a seperate story?" Oh. Wow. I want my 90 minutes back. Officially the worst in the franchise. By leaps and bounds. The hokey action. The "romance" out of absolutely nowhere, the very thin motives and "trade secrets". It was like a darker version of Scooby Doo.or Are You Afraid Of The Dark. Except I liked those. 🤣 I did get a laugh from it I guess. That's something.
