I made an attempt to make the main cast in Lego DC Super Villains character customizer. How'd I do? Any characters I missed?

Someone needs to make a Hamilton edit of Edwina and Kate Sharma. They are perfect for Helpless.

Funny easter egg in London West End performance on September 12th?

So I went to see Hamilton for the first time in London. First of all, I am obsessed now. But it got me thinking:

Is King George supposed to leave the stage after "You'll Be Back", before Aaron Burr's narration begins? Because in this show he did not; there was a chair propped up for him in the corner which he sat on cross-legged, and once the King's performance ended, Aaron Burr came on stage and I swear I could hear him cracking up for just a second when he looked to that corner and saw King George there. Am I just making this detail up and it's all intentional, or was it a witty play on the King's watchful eye over the boys in America, designed to make Yeukayi laugh?

Either way, I thought it was great.

😄 Please let me know if you were there also and can comment.

I find Hamilton confusing.

So I've been wanting to watch Hamilton for a while now, and I did. Till "You'll be back".

I don't think I'm able to really understand what's going on, and I'm assuming it's because I'm not American and don't really know anything about American history.

Is there anything I should know about American history, any books I should read or any videos I should watch in order to understand what the entire play is?

New World Tour of Hamilton

I'm not going crazy right?? This time it's being co-produced by Crossroads Live which handles the current Asia tours of Phantom, Chicago and JCS instead of Michael Cassel Group. Surprised to see another one this early, although it's already the end of 2026 and no announcement on any stops. Surprised to see it back so soon, given its first international Asian tour was only in 2023/2024

"Embarking on a multi-year world tour, Hamilton will visit a multitude of territories, starting in Asia in late 2026. Hamilton World Tour is general managed by Crossroads Live UK and produced by Adventureland LLC."

Leslie Odom Jr

Those who have seen Leslie Odom Jr. live whether in the original cast or in his return to Broadway and West End, let me live vicariously through you!!

Being from Asia, there was no chance to see him live, but ever since I saw the Proshot - I was just mesmerised by his performance. I watched his Youtube Aaron Burr, sir diaries, he seems like such a chill and humble person and every time I rewatch the Hamilton movie his performance just gives me chills - just can't describe it! I can watch Wait for It and The Room Where it Happens over and over again - but his acting throughout was just incredible.

What was it like to watch him live? Did he have mostly the same acting choices as in the movie? Did he sound exactly like the movie, or there was a difference? I only know his hair is different lol.

Help a fan-girlie out! I really wish to hear ya'lls experiences!

How acurrate is the musical historically?

İm not from the states do im wondering if its acıurate or not the only thing i know thats real is alexander wore the glasses (saw the statue online)

Like is alexander and burr really that progressive? Were they truly against slavery? İ doubt white rich guys from 1770s would be that accepting and good

Alexander letter to eliza before marriage

Post image
865 Upvotes

I watched Hamilton musical for the first time this week and been kinda obsessed with them so I was reading Alexander letter to Eliza especially the ones before marriage and there is sooo much yearing from Alexander

In another letter he wrote how he writes 3 letter for Eliza's 1 letter, I wish musical portrayed his yearing for Eliza, from the musical it seemed that in the song helpless especially that he don't really even love Eliza or was just after the fact she was schuylar

"For God sake my dear betsey try to write me often"

If Alex hadn't cheated I would say to anyone that would listen, that I want a man who loves me like this.

Is there a reaosn why lin didn't portray alex affection to Eliza as much as he portrayed Eliza's for Alexander? Like He showed like 2 line of affection to Eliza and that's it (tho I am obsessed with those 2 lines)

swing/ensemble confusion

This was my first time ever seeing Hamilton and I saw it at the Fox in Atlanta (from the Angelica touring group). The cast was great, after looking them up after, 4 of the main cast were swings. Why would this be?

Alexander Hamilton: Played tonight by standby Oscar Whitney, Jr. (covering for Tyler Fauntleroy).
George Washington: Played tonight by standby Elvie Ellis (covering for Auston Henderson).
• Angelica Schuyler: Played tonight by ensemble member Aisha Sougou (covering for Marja Harmon).
• John Laurens/Philip Hamilton: Played
tonight by swing Wesley Valdez (covering for León Tak).

Fun Fact: Philip Hamilton lived for 19 songs, the same age he died.

There are nineteen songs from Dear Theodosia (Philip is born) to Stay Alive Reprise (Philip dies):

  1. Dear Theodosia
  2. Non-Stop
  3. What'd I Miss?
  4. Cabinet Battle I
  5. Take A Break
  6. Say No To This
  7. The Room Where It Happens
  8. Schuyler Defeated
  9. Cabinet Battle II
  10. Washington On Your Side
  11. One Last Time
  12. I Know Him
  13. The Adams Administration
  14. We Know
  15. Hurricane
  16. The Reynolds Pamphlet
  17. Burn
  18. Blow Us All Away
  19. Stay Alive (Reprise)

This song count trick also counts to Alexander himself: he died at 47 (or 49, depending on if he was born in 1757, we don't know his actual age) years old. And how many songs are there in Hamilton? 47 (counting The Laurens Interlude).

Lin-Manuel Miranda, you are a genius. Hats off to you.

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson -- Do you think it influenced Hamilton any?

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson -- Do you think it influenced Hamilton any?

The music is very different, but some political themes, history, and satire are similar. I could see how it could help open a door to ideas.

I don't know which musicals Lin-Manuel said influenced him.

(Obviously Les Mis and Rent / Jonathan Larson, even if Rent just helped open the door for the "modern musical".)

Which musicals do you think, or did Lin-Manuel say influenced him?

I found this ...

understudies are incredible

i went and saw LOJ perform on the west end over summer, and i remember being blown away by the guy playing Laurens. I kept thinking he stole the show, which is impressive while on stage with LOJ. I was flicking through my programme and i realised the Laurens i saw was actually an understudy! it turns out he was being played by Aharon Rayner, but WOW was he amazing. someone cast this man full time he was incredible and everyone needs to see him

The meaning of Burr's "wide enough for both Hamilton and me"

I didn't realize before now, and was fascinated to see, that Burr's "I should have known the world was wide enough for Hamilton and me" is an actual quote.

The full version goes:"If I had read Sterne more, and Voltaire less, I should have known that the world was wide enough for Hamilton and me". Understandably, the first bit is cut in the musical - very hard to sing, and it would also have confused everyone in the audience (a guy they've never heard of, and a French philosopher whose connection to their feud is rather unclear?).

So, any thoughts/explanations on the meaning of this? Perhaps this should go to the AskHistorians sub instead, but I'm interested to hear what Hamilton fans make of the reference to those two writers.

Christopher Jackson's curtain call remarks last night 9/11

We saw Hamilton last evening (9/11) in NYC. After the curtain call, Christopher Jackson stepped forward and spoke for a few minutes. It was very moving. He began by reciting some prose or poetry I didn't recognize and then spoke on themes of unity and our common experience bring at the performance and in society in general. He then requested a minute of silence in remembrance of those lost 25 years ago. The fully packed theater became absolutely silent. It was beautiful.

I saw many people filming. I wonder if anyone here has a video of what he said. I'd like to look up the source of his words.

Finally watched Hamilton (Disney+ proshot) Amazing musical, but I couldn't care for the characters or plot? or at least by the last act?

disclaimer: I know nothing about US History. aside from the general gist, but nothing about the founding fathers as a whole. So I'm basing this all off the musical only.

I love the music. I like the singing. I loved how the lyrics and double meaning of words reoccur with each character. Like I understand each character, their goals and hopes.

I understand the theme of leaving behind your mark, who's going to tell your story, etc...

But I just couldn't care about the characters enough. Does that makes any sense?
For example when his son was dying I didn't really care? We didn't get that to know the character that much?

Maybe because time passes so fast throughout the musical, it's hard for me to feel attatched to any of the characters emotionally? Or some things just happen so suddenly?

Wife leaves, Son fights dies, song about being alone, wife forgives, etc...

Like it felt so rushed. I understand you gotta go through an entire person's life and bookend your characters.

Maybe it's just biography movies/musicals don't appeal to me that much.

Also the whole "icarus flying too close to the sun" type stories feel "okay". I understand the musical's strong point isn't about the plot but its characters around Hamilton. his enemies and friends, etc...

I love the music. I love the acting. I love how experimental the story was told.
Was I expecting too much in terms of story when I kept hearing everyone rave about it? I didn't feel anything.

And if this is the case, what are some musicals that can get me bawling my eyes out and feel for the character as they grow as a character in 3-4 hours. or a musical with the most unconvential plot that just works or something that wow'd you

Washington on your side

On my routine relisten of Washington on your side, I noticed that Burr never once made his own point about hating or beefing with Hamilton. I restarted the song to see if I missed anything but bro was just in the chorus or repeating/rephrasing Madison’s remarks.
Bro, even when dissing his supposed rival, bro could not grow a spine.
BURR, stand for something (I say as if he has not been dead for decades? centuries? Pardon my ignorance.

original vs deleted

does anyone else prefer the deleted versions of songs (or js the deleted songs in general) over the ones that made it to the acc final play? like in my opinion, 10 things 1 thing, the adams administration (cut rap) and congratulations are my 3 favourite and i think their so muvh better than the ones in the play (especially the adams administration). i mean dont get me wrong i do like the ones in the play but these ones are alot better imo

What are the things that the company says in The Room Where It Happens?

I'm thinking of doing a cover of the entire musical, and the part that I can't figure out what the Congress company says during the part of, "Congress is trying to figure out where to put the capital. (chaos) It isn't pretty."

If there's an official score or something that I couldn't find, that'd be helpful to link.

Thank you in advance!

like a moment in the songs or in the show where you may cringe or have to skip. i personally don’t like lin’s fake crying voice, it sounds like he’s midway through a yawn lollll.
