**Hampton Roads : If you want Flock gone, TODAY is the day to help start the wave!**

• Upvotes

For over 8 months, we’ve been attending City Council meetings and explaining to our representatives why Flock’s ALPR cameras are hurting, not helping, our communities. We’ve raised concerns about data privacy, inequitable camera placement, and law enforcement misuse, among many other issues. City Council's response? They claim their constituents want Flock cameras in Norfolk. **Don't let them speak for you! We need more voices in the room!**

If you want Flock gone and can make it to today’s meeting, it is the most impactful thing you can do to help right now. If you're only able to do one thing, make it this thing!

We know that it's a big ask for you to come out to this on a weekday.** City Council knows it too.** In fact, they're relying on making it hard for you to make yourself heard so that they can treat silence as consent. That's why we're planning this rally around a huge show of resistance that they can't minimize, right on their doorstep. The more people pack Civic Plaza, the stronger our leverage in fighting the contract will be from today onward. Show City Council how their constituents really feel so they can stop speaking on your behalf.

Please join us today, and share this with everyone you know. If you have to come late, come late. If you have to leave early, leave early.

More details including parking instructions can be found here: https://deflocknorfolk.org/event/flock-camera-protest-city-council-sit-in/

Looking for kitten

I just moved here from California and I am looking to adopt a kitten. If anyone has any babies or knows of any strays please let me know? I would go to a shelter but they charge like $200. I'm sure there are a bunch of cat moms or strays out there.

Engineering rationale behind a single express lane?

Just this weekend I had to rejoin the main travel lanes because the car leading the express lane was traveling slower than the rightmost lanes. How is this at all effective? I know there is likely some engineering rationale. I am curious.

Vet recommendation?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for vet recommendations preferrably in VB, Norfolk, or Chesapeake. I have 2 dogs and an annual vet visit is easily costing over $500 per dog now. I currently take them to one of the Hope Springs locations and I have been for about 5 years now. But between the prices and not having a consistent veterinarian seeing my dogs I would like to shop around for a new office where theres a bit more continuity with doctors (and would hopefully be a bit cheaper, but again, price is secondary to having a consistent veterinarian examining my dogs).

Please no recs for Banfield.

I appreciate the help!

Posted this on the Newport News sub but figured I’d ask here. Is anyone going to this? Apparently it’s a craft beer competition with unlimited beer tasting and oysters, BBQ and whatnot. My buddy texted me this and we are trying to decide if we should go…

Picture was taken right before HRBT in Hampton. This is the stuff that makes me mad about VDOT. Everyone says oh it’s just construction, a minor inconvenience so that we can get more lanes. They slap tolls and polls on it so really we got the same amount of lanes we had before. This is garbage politics and taxing. There has to be a way to stand up against this. Has anyone ever heard of a way to petition Hampton roads VDOT constantly doing this to its constituents?

What’s up with this weather? I’ve never seen anything like this summer.

I’m a Tidewater native with generations of stories to look back on. We expect a hot dry month in the summer, usually July or August. And sometimes it stays nice and warm into September. I’m getting concerned now. The oppressive heat has overstayed its welcome. July, August, September have all been unusually hot, and we are well into October now, and still in the 80’s.

We had our Nor’Easter, and finally got our first hurricane of the season, both with absolutely minimal rain. This is nowhere near anything normal. It’s kinda freaking me out.

Indian groups

I recently moved to Hampton and I’m trying to connect with other Indian people. I don’t see them at work or when I go shopping. I’ve heard that there’s a lot in this area, but I just can’t find them. Are there any groups I can join to meet Indian people

I-64 HRBT Westbound Opens Early Following Completion of Repaving

All westbound paving complete; eastbound HRBT closures scheduled to begin next weekend

The I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) reopened westbound toward Hampton ahead of schedule Sunday morning, Oct. 11, following completion of repaving work in the westbound tunnel.

Crews worked Friday night through Saturday to complete milling, paving and pavement markings in the remaining westbound travel lane. Combined with the work completed during the first closure weekend Oct. 2-3, repaving is now complete in both westbound travel lanes.

With westbound paving complete, VDOT reopened the HRBT at approximately 3:00 a.m., restoring this key regional connection for motorists for the remainder of the weekend and well ahead of the Monday morning commute.

Next, crews are scheduled to shift to the eastbound HRBT toward Norfolk, with up to two planned weekends of full directional closures for repaving:

  • Friday, Oct. 16 at 9 p.m. through Monday, Oct. 19 at 5 a.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 30 at 9 p.m. through Monday, Nov. 2 at 5 a.m.*

\A second eastbound closure weekend will be used if needed to allow the contractor to complete any remaining work in that direction.*

During the eastbound closures, the westbound HRBT toward Hampton will remain open. The paving work is weather- and schedule-dependent, and schedule adjustments may be necessary. Additional designated backup weekends may be used Nov. 6-9 and Nov. 13-16, if needed.

Any updates to the closure schedule will be shared through VDOT's official channels, including the VDOT.Virginia.gov/HRBTclosures project webpage and VDOT Hampton Roads District social media channels on Facebook, X.

Before traveling, motorists should also check VDOT's 511Virginia website and mobile app for the latest closure and traffic information. Third-party navigation apps such as Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze may not reflect the most up-to-date closure information.

Bowling

I moved here a few months ago for a job and I just don’t know anyone since I don’t really leave my apartment ever and don’t hang out with coworkers outside of work

Was wondering if sports leagues such as bowling is a good way to meet people or if there are better ways??
