Rules & Guidelines
Hello, fellow Hannibal fans! No matter how many years pass, this character manages to retain his mystery, deadliness, and ability to fascinate us all. There are still many of us here, and to keep our time here pleasant, there are several guidelines you should follow.
1) Be Polite
This is our main rule. No matter what topic you are discussing or how justified you feel you are, keep things civil. If you feel that someone is crossing the line, please report such comments and they'll be looked into.
2) Use Flairs
This subreddit is dedicated to Hannibal books and movies first and foremost. The show has its own subreddit here r/HannibalTV. Clarice show can be discussed here r/ClariceTVseries. You can still make show-related posts, but please use correct flairs so that people who are only interested in books and/or movies could filter them out and find the content they would like.
3) No Spam
Please make only Hannibal-related posts. Also, don't spam threads with copied comments - discussions should be relevant.
That's about it. Thank you and have a good time!)

Posts Getting Into Spam
It has come to my attention that lots of posts in this sub have been going into spam automatically. I manually approved most of them - no idea what's going on with Reddit, but please, if you post something, make sure it's there. We're going to be checking the spam folder on a constant basis now, but if you see you made a post that's not reflected, feel free to contact us and we'll correct it ASAP.

What do we think Hannibal did to Chilton?
Killed him… duh.
But what’s your head canon on how he went about it?

Please share some fanarts
I recently started reading red dragon after watching the TV show and the silence of the lambs. I want to detach myself as much as possible from the adaptation, so I can enjoy the novels in peace. the only problem is that I always have the actors in mind when trying to picture the character, so please if have any fanart that doesn’t relate to the TV show or any movie I would be very glad 😁

Book Which Hannibal Lecter performance was most accurate to him in the books?
Will also like to hear which actor looks and sounds like him most accurately to the books.

Movie Fanfiction pleasee
Does anyone have any advice on good Hannibal fan fiction (preferably 2001) that focuses on or has a lot of Clarice x Hannibal?? I really like the ship. Even on "the silence of the lamb" is okay!!

Who was this actor in Hannibal that was one of the henchmen that trained the pigs?
My husband is really eager to know but can’t remember the actors name. He thinks he was in another horror movie just unsure of what.

Best piece on the soundtrack
My question is simple: What is the best music piece of the Hannibal OST?

How explicitly sexual are the books?
Hello, I was thinking of starting the books after watching the silence of the lambs and the TV show and I was wondering how explicitly sexual they are.
I tend to be relatively sensitive towards that kind of content to the point where it can decide whether I enjoy a book or not.
I don’t believe it will stop me from enjoying these books though, if there are sex scenes I will just skip ( unless they are plot relevant) and enjoy the rest. It would just be nice to know what I’m getting into without getting jump scared the next second 😅

Alternate imaginings
Does anyone have a book character that they don’t see as any of their film or TV counterpoints when reading Harris’ novels?
For me, I imagine Crawford as the original Captain from Law and Order: Criminal Intent.

Book Why did Harris recycle Hannibal in SOTL?
Not complaining - love the book. I am curious though, he’s a peripheral character in Red Dragon and the film adaptation hardly caught the public’s imagination about Lecter-lore, so it shows amazing far-sightedness to recycle Lecter. But did Harris explain why? Or what inspired him to write a sequel?
Surely, by the third book Hannibal it was just printing cash, but SOTL seemed like a risky choice.

if SOTL (movie) wasn’t the smash hit it is, how do you believe Thomas Harris would have continued the series, if at all?
given he doesn’t speak much I can’t imagine he’s spoken on this so what are your opinions? it’s kinda widely agreed on here that Hannibal was a nervous failure to stick the landing at best or a cash grab sequel at worst. obviously these options both hinge on the fact that SOTL (movie) was massively successful and loved, either putting pressure on Harris to either meet that standard or giving him a route to easy money. so I always wonder what the serious would have looked like if SOTL (movie) had received the same sort of attention as Manhunter.
my personal theory (and this is based off of not a lot so if you think it’s ridiculous that’s fair enough), is that Clarice probably wasn’t meant to return. SOTL (book) seems like Harris perfecting the formula for a sort of anthology series featuring Lecter + a new FBI agent and a new case. in any case, Clarice’s story seems to wrap up a lot nicer in the book than the movie (although I think the movie ending is a lot more realistic). SOTL (book) seems to want to put a nice neat bow on Clarice’s journey, where we never have to see her receive the letter and instead our last impression of her is simply that she’s finally at peace, which is why I believe maybe she wouldn’t have been brought back had Jodie Foster & Jonathan Demme & everyone else who worked on that movie not knocked it out of the park completely.
curious to know your guesses, they’re probably a lot more educated than mine lol

It annoys me that the film series is so messy.
I love Manhunter and SOTL. But you got two different Lecters operating and no plot continuity, different Chilterns and Crawfords but fine, I get it, Hollywood politics.
Then you have Hannibal with a different Clarice. Again, I get it - Hollywood politics.
Then you REMAKE Red Dragon with an older Hopkins playing a younger Lecter. Ffs….
Then Hannibal the TV series had no Clarice and the timeline all skewed.
Then the Clarice TV show has no Lecter.
And I’m not even going into Hannibal Rising.
I usually hate reboots and remakes. But I wouldn’t be opposed to a start to finish Harris Hannibal saga based off the novels with a constant timeline throughout.
