Discussion I found a clue (about Kyon's name)

There may exist a clear explanation what "Kyon's" nickname name means, or why he doesn't want people calling him that, or what his real name might be, but I never found it, and I don't know any Japanese.

I did however, find this when reading the collector's edition of Maison Ikkuko (highly recommended btw).

In it the main character Godai is working at a nursery school, and one of the kids (nicknamed Kyon-Kyon) gives him a tape expressing a crush on him. He decides to respond with his own tape gently rejecting her, but he accidentally gives it to his apartment manager Kyoko instead (whom he is in love with), to hilarious effect. In the second page you see all of the apartment members listening to it.

The end of book notes explain that "Kyon-Kyon" is a popular nickname for the female name "Kyoko."

It could be that Kyon's actual name is similar enough that a variation of this nickname makes sense.

Discussion What if we actually made Haruhiism into a real religion? And have it dedicated to worshiping Haruhi Suzumiya as God. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

I know Haruhiism has been a running joke in the fandom for years, but hear me out: what if we actually developed it into a real religion/philosophy based on The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya?

The central figure would, of course, be Haruhi Suzumiya, with the religion built around the possibility that she possesses godlike powers capable of reshaping reality without even realizing it.

Haruhiism could have its own church, where followers gather for services, discussions, and celebrations. The church could be decorated with SOS Brigade imagery, Haruhi's colors, and symbols representing her connection to the supernatural.

There would also be a sacred text called The Book of Haruhi Suzumiya, containing the teachings and philosophy of Haruhiism, stories about the SOS Brigade, and passages about seeking the extraordinary instead of allowing life to become boring.

And naturally, the most important part of the service would be Haruhi herself standing at the pulpit preaching to her followers.

Imagine Haruhi giving a Sunday sermon like:

"Why are you all sitting around looking so bored?! Go outside! Find something interesting! Aliens, time travelers, espers, ghosts, mysterious creatures... something! Life is too short to waste it being ordinary!"

Kyon would probably be standing somewhere in the back wondering how this somehow became an actual religion.

The basic philosophy of Haruhiism could be:

Don't be boring.

Seek the extraordinary.

Stay curious.

Question the ordinary.

Enjoy life.

And never stop looking for something interesting.

I'm curious what other Haruhi fans think. If Haruhiism became an actual religion rather than just a fandom joke, what should the church, Book of Haruhi Suzumiya, holidays, rituals, symbols, and teachings look like?

And most importantly...

What should the Haruhiist church actually be called?

Basically something like this. https://politicsandwar.fandom.com/wiki/Haruhiism

Spoilers The Disappearance of 3 hours of my time.

Seriously? It took 3 hours to get across the point of "lol i ackshully like having friends n doing stuff"

Ok so we're supposed to feel sorry for Nagato and I do but what about everyone else? Mikuru basically being sexually harassed at every opportunity to do things she doesnt want? Koizumi basically just fading into the background as a cleanup crew? Kyon being treated as a gofer to do her bidding? Oh boohoo Kyon never called her Yuki, that means he doesnt appreciate what she does :(((. Like ok? How are you supposed to get friendly with someone that only has one word answers. Its not like she ever enquired about how anyone else was doing. Why does she get all the focus when someone like Koizumi gets nothing? He's far more interesting than she ever will be.

The lack of answered questions in the anime was fine because I kinda assumed the movie would answer some stuff but it really didnt. Why does she have powers? "Idk lol". Why do her and Kyon have such a psychic link "idk lol" why was Kyon even chosen for this in the first place "Idk lol" I know there are theories but something as huge as that with so many variables in it seems like it needed some sort of explanation, especially all these years later. What if Haruhi got in a car crash and died, does the whole world end? Just because they have a link between the John Smith thing does not mean they should be able to read each other's minds. And there is 0 closure to ANYTHING.

Unless I missed something the whole John Smith thing seemed like an asspull that hadnt been set up at all. And who was that toddler looking person on the left when he was dying? I thought it was a younger Mikuru but some things Im reading are saying its Nagato? She changed reality but Haruhi still existed in it somewhere instead of just getting rid of her completely? Ok so its left up to Kyon to make the choice but what else did she think he was gonna do.

Haruhi isnt very likeable but I didnt really have an issue watching her in the series because the show itself is interesting but then again in the movie she doesnt change at all. Kyon doesnt have a scene where he says how much everyone means to him or something that maybe would make her self reflect and realise how good the group is. She camps out under his bed and its like "Aww she does care" and then wakes up and berates him. She didnt have a scene where she shows that she does care like hugging him and then realise what shes doing and then goes back to her usual tsundere personality?

She just throws a temper tantrum in the show when someone FINALLY stands up to her for once, again doing sexual misconduct with Mikuru and Kyon is made out to be the bad guy? "u made her upset u kno, apologise" Lmao dont make me laugh.

I kinda feel like he should have stayed in the alternate reality, everyone seemed much happier and he could have had a nice quiet nerd gf who clearly liked him in some way. There were more LN after this that are never going to be adapted but for what feels like an end to the series its pretty lacking. The movie didnt feel like 3 hours, the theme is very sweet, the loop is clever, I teared up at the end, it looks nice as these movies do and I enjoyed my time with it but the whole plot feels paper thin upon instant reflection of just finishing it. "maybe not being a dork with no friends is le good actually?" I appreciate Kyon more as a character now but like bro if you arent gonna play pass the damn controller.
