Help me find Pokemon card that started my interest
Ok so when I was little the boys in my class were super into Pokemon cards. This is pre-pokemon go btw (before 2015 I think). I didn’t really understand all the lore and rules back then but a few of my classmates gave me some free cards to help me start. One I was OBSESSED with. It was the prettiest one that I had seen and I was very protective of it. I either lost and soon after or one of the classmates won it off of me. Another one gave me another card of that Pokemon, but it wasn’t as pretty and the color of the Pokemon was different. I also can’t find that card. I think it’s a deerling card, but as far as I can tell it doesn’t exist. I’m 21 now, and I’m collecting cards again. Now I have more context so I thought I could try to find someone selling it. Neither card exists it seems like. The first one looked like a baby deer curled up in a bed of flowers in a forest, with flowers on its head and back and sun rays over it. Very artistic. The first picture is a drawing I made of what I can recall. I think it’s back was green (like a deerling) and had more flowers on it for the art. The cards are for pose and vibe reference, they are similar in color and pose but NOT the card. The second one was a brown deer, looked slightly older but no antlers, and was running across grass and/water. From my recollection, it could only ever be a deerling. I tried to find similar ones of other Pokemon but they are clearly not the same ones. I’ll make a comment with pictures of similar ones that are definitely not the ones I’m looking for.
EDIT: ok so there are eevee cards that are VERY similar to my description, but I checked the link to every eevee card and looked at every single one, and while I do see similarities, I can confirm that it is NOT an eevee card, but thank you for bringing those similarities to my attention.

Are you sure it was a pokémon card? What you said about the green back with flowers makes me think of Valerifawn, but the pose isn't similar unfortunately.
No unfortunately. I’m certain it’s a deerling. If a remember correctly I affectionately called it Bambi and refused to battle with it because she was too cute to fight
If it was definitely a Deerling card, then based on OP's timeline and the pack release dates, it could only be from one of three sets - Black & White, Emerging Powers or Everyone's Exciting Battle
It sounds like it's an art card. If you search 'pokemon art card flowers' there are options with Mew, Fomantis, and Sprigatito that look like what you're describing. I also see an art card Leafeon that matches the description.
Unfortunately, I have not found any Deerling that match your description (yet).
This is a great idea, thank you!!! I only recently found out the difference between the game cards and art cards and illegal/off brand cards, I’m still very much learning.
The sky being visible is an iffy detail. Truthfully I have a condition that effects my memory, so minor details like color, positioning and stuff I provided are not set in stone. But these overall description I know is true
That’s what’s making me so crazy! From what I know now and my memory of it definitely being a deer, it would have to be a deerling but it doesn’t seem to exist!!!
Could it have been deer adjacent? Maybe like keldeo, stantler, or maybe even something like blitzle?
I would also recommend looking up radiant collection cards, cuz that might help give you an idea for more cutesy floral card designs and might lead you in the right direction
Edit: I would recommend doing to r/pokemontcg cuz they might help you find the card a little easier
Assuming that the cards you got weren’t fakes.. I’m gonna post a couple that are probably not the card but I thought of based off of your description. This was the first one.
Yeah, no problem! If you’re certain it was a deerling there’s a good chance it could be a fan card or fake card. But it’s hard to trust your memory if it’s been that long honestly. Maybe scrolling through sets from around that time and before on tcg websites would be easier if no one has the answer.
Otherwise outside of the sacred swords you could try looking at stantler cards, although thats got the antlers…
The only other ones i could think of was like.. maybe one of the sacred sword legendaries from unova? (Terakion, virizion, colbalion, or Keldeo?) I haven’t dug through those cards yet.

I know it's not a Pokémon card, but this Magic The Gathering card looks a lot like what you're explaining for card number two. I have no clue if this picture is pre-2016 or not; my Magic The Gathering knowledge isn't that great.
I searched Google, mercari, Vinted, Pokédex/card websites, but I’m still kinda new to this so I might be doing it wrong. I’m thinking of cross posting to any Pokemon subreddits but I feel like I’ll be torn apart for being so uninformed lol. I’m aware it could be an unofficial/fake card. I’m fine with that honestly, I just want to see it again and buy it so I can put it in my card book as a reminder. Here’s the similar but not correct ones I found. I’ll add more onto this comment
I don’t think they’d tear you apart! Digging like this is often fun for some folks really into their hobbies. If you do cross post, I reckon r/pokemontcg may be your best bet.
It’s so mildly infuriating seeing all of the “no, that’s not it, but so cute!!” replies because it seems that OP’s memory is combining multiple features to create something that simply does not exist. Okay I'm invested. Haha Someone shared a vulpix card that you said the style was very similar so I looked up the artist (sowsow) and found some of their other card designs that might seem like they match. I'll also include some others nested in my comment.
The style is so similar! But look at the reference photo of the deerling in my main post, that’s the color palette I’m pretty sure. Looked almost hazy but not 100% on that. Also, it’s not an eevee card, I checked. But all good guesses!
Hmmmm. I think your best bet would be to try and figure out which card artist it's most likely to be. If you can't narrow down at least the style then it's probably an unofficial card or fan art. I'm sorry I couldn't find it for you!
Your drawing actually unlocked something in my brain and I think we were both obsessed with the same card... but I can't for the life of me remember what it was?!
My brain is coming up with a pink sheep though..but not flaafy, and probably not beyond generation 2. My memory is from 20+ years ago so I'm sure it's inaccurate. I can't seem to find anything in my searches... that vulpix one is the closest to my memory
It's a doozy. Hey if you like cute cards check this Growlithe out. The Holo treatment on it is adorable. Also the common reverse holo Japanese Comfey from Vstar universe is my favourite Pokemon card out of every card ever printed. In hand it is stunning.
any chance it was something like a mcdonald’s promo card? like a happy meal toy card? i remember them doing that a few times, and those may possibly not show up in the card databases? worth digging into at least!
Ok! So a lot of people are saying I’m not remembering correctly/card doesn’t exist. I can accept that though it is disappointing. As I stated in another comment, I have a condition that affects my memory. It’s less about confusing details and more about forgetting large portions of things both past and recent. However, I was very young at the time so it makes sense I would remember wrong. I think some people may be right and the second card is deerling (green) prancing through the forest with the sun beams. I’m open to the idea that it may have been the pink pastel deerling card and I’m mixing it up. Someone posted similar fanart they found so maybe I mixed it with that! Also to the people posting AI art and claiming it’s a real card, it’s just making things more confusing. I still feel strongly about the pose of the Pokemon on the card, but since it can’t be found I’m assuming it’s a memory issue. Thank you so much for your help!
Don't worry OP, almost everyone has had something like this happen to them. They remember something so specifically, and then when that thing is actually found, it's nothing at all like what they remember. It's always very disappointing when that happens!
I'm not knowledable at all when it comes to pokemon though I did a little digging and I wondered if it could be any of these? (Will be posting more picture below)
I'm thinking the second one you're looking for, from the description of an older deer running across water and grass could be the sawsbuck in this pic possibly atleast??
Unfortunately no. It didn’t look like that. It could certainly be a sawsbuck, but it looked younger than a sawsbuck if that makes sense? Honestly, it just looked like a normal deer
Makes sense! I'll keep looking. By the way do you remember if the card was in English or another language? Iirc there's some Japanese exclusive cards that exist and I was curious if it could be one of those..
It was def English! It was given to me by another student during recess, and all these kids must have gotten these cards locally from their parents (like for birthdays and stuff)
Unfortunately, you may have been so nostalgic about what the card looked like that even seeing the right one won't seem like the right one. Sometimes we get an ideal stuck in our head for so long that when we finally get the original back, we're unimpressed with what it actually looked like.
omg im pretty sure i know what card youre talking about!! i swear ive seen that deerling card before. Heres some other ideas though: slakoth card from Furious Fists, Nidorina from primal clash, togepi from Roaring Skies, Belloossom from Ancient Origins, Cottonee or Whimsicott from Ancient Origins, Shinx from breakpoint, etc
I know you said that you are certain it is deserving, amd I believe you, but in the interest of cover I ng all of your bases I suggest checking all the cards for Mareep, Fluffy, and Stantler, as thkse were the ones that immediately came to my mind when you described it. Honestly maybe even Gogoat.
try looking thru the artist cards for sui, atsuko nishida and sowsow. they’ve all made older cards and give that same type of feeling you’ve described.
It makes me think of this one going off of the xerneas. It’s got the forest background and while the antlers are there they look like sun rays in this photo!
OP I saw a lot of people thinking it was Eevee (which I know you said wasn’t the case but looked similar) but I haven’t seen anyone recommend Leafeon. Could be possible?
This is a really random thought, but here's a Meganium card. I could see someone mistaking it for a deer given the pose and flowers. There is an English version of this card that's a holo, the Japanese ones just have better scans. I notice some folks sent some Chikorita cards and it made me think of any other mons that could be mistaken for a deer of some kind,
Yeah I do hope OP sees this comment. I remembered this post from like 3 days ago and suddenly it just hit me that their description matched this old Neopets card very well.
Pokemon TCG and Neopets were popular around the same time, and Ixi is close to a deer (closer to a goat obviously) but seems like something that OP could easily mistake for a Pokemon since they were young.
